My brother has an old electric guitar he doesn't use and I really want to learn DMB songs. What are some easy ones I can start with? I know almost no guitar but can read tabs. thanks a ton!

Typical Situation, Digging a Ditch, and Halloween are really easy. Learn the dave chords. Go to http://www.dmbtabs.com/lessons.php?id=3 and learn these chords. Then, you can play tons of his songs like Grey Street, Too Much, Lover Lay Down, When the World Ends... and the list keeps going.

I say this to all who start playing guitar:
DO NOT START OUT PLAYING DAVE MATTHEWS SONGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean it! I always say to start out with Bob Dylan. Open chords (sometimes with a capo), easy to sing them, and the rhythms are not that hard for a lot of them. I have been playing for almost 10 years, you will want to start with Dylan.

yes i seriously agree.
hell start with blink 182 if you want.
but, starting out with a guitar player like Dave (although the songs are easy to learn) they are so unorthodox that it may hinder progress.
also stay away from jack johnson, you will be playing everything like a jack johnson song if you learn him too soon. :lol

I say to learn some dylan (www.dylanchords.info is an amazing site!), then some simple Beatles (Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Rain, and Ballad of John & Yoko are some good ones), and maybe Young's Down By the River. Trust me, these types of songs help you with changing chords, rhythm, and singing comfortably which will prepare you for Dave's chord changes, rhythms, and singing with his songs.
