I am having a tough time getting the timing down on the intro to Jimi Thing...I have the official song book, so I know I am playing it right, but I cant get the rhythum of the intro/verses down. Anyone have suggestions?

Just keep on listening to the song . Also the
5 h5
77
thinging is a quickie only 1 or 2 strums.
Hope that helps a little.

Check out the DVD of Listener Supported. They show his hands close up and you can really see how he plays the whole song.

its in E. e blues or whatever. the chords go from E to A (with a hammer on G as a transition).

AS an aside, one thing I've never been good at, and its so noted playing DMB songs, is sliding up and down the neck without looking. Was playing some songs in the dark, and man, without looking at my left hand, sliding up to a lot of bad notes. Take BOWA for example.

Slide up to Am
Slide up to C
Slide back down to F
Slide to 10 for D

I"m normally only off by a fret, but seriously, is it just practice? I can't imagine being on stage and having to stare at my left hand making sure I'm goign to the right frets.

Practice is all. Listen to yourself when your playing as well, it helps to know if your above or below where you wanna go while your doing it.

I'm convinced you can play anything over this jam lol. If you add major chords to the a g# g that opens up a whole new arrangement as well. Just do what Tim does, play so fast every note just blends lol

I don't think the song book has it the same way Dave actually plays it

The way i think dave actually plays it:

E:--------------------------------------------------
B:----------------------------(9)---------2---------
G:----------------9--x---9-----9----------2----6h7--
D:----------9-----9--x---9h11----9--------2----7----
A:-----7----9h11-----x---0---------11\--0-0---(0)---
E:-7h9---9--0---------------------------------------

Parentheses for notes that he sometimes hits. If you want a video of it being played, I can slow it down a bunch and play it so it sounds pretty much identical to dave.

^^^ thats spot on! learn the original way too, and throw it in every now and again.... gives it a little more character
