DMB, Zac Brown Band, Government Mule, Black Crowes, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi, Doobie Brothers, Jason Aldean, Al Green, Dwight Yoakam, Loretta Lyn, Kansas.....

Pretty good lineup for an inaugural event. It's about time Louisville starts pulling big acts away from Indy, Cincy, and Nashville.

I just booked my hotel room - Hilton Garden Inn is a mile away, at the end of Central Ave, and they will likely have a shuttle. 118 per night if booked online. I live about 25 minutes away, but who wants to drive after an all day festivus? I wonder if they will sell any seats, or all general admission? I know there are VIP packages that will be available, but for $$$$$$$. Looking forward to some great guest appearances, i.e. Gov't Mule. The "Pre-sale" starts tomorrow at 5 pm per Ticketmaster.

The official festival website lists 3 choices for nearby campgrounds, but all 3 are 15-20 min away i think...which is still close, but not sure if you'd be sober or not. :evil I booked the Ramada 1.5 miles away for $101.99. There are cheaper ones out there though. Some have already jacked up their prices to $170 and up. The word is spreading.

I can't find any info on the DMB Sunday pre-sale passoword. Bon Jovi and Chesney have updated info on their web sites for their pass words, but I can't find anyting about DMB. I called ticketmaster and they don't know either.

I'd have no idea where the campgrounds would be? I've lived here all my life and the closest true campgrounds are outside of Louisville in the surrounding towns. Since this festival will be so big, they might convert a park or two into a campground. Your safest bet however would be to book a hotel room. I would also try to get further away from Churchill and more towards downtown. The surrounding areas around the track aren't really the greatest and there isn't a whole lot to do. However, there's plenty to do around the downtown and bardstown road (highlands) areas.

Campsites are listed here: http://www.hullabaloufest.com/hullabalou/info/travel

FYI: Don't book through their hotel link. Prices are $125 and $129. You can find hotels much cheaper.

Hey guys, i found all kinds of camping stuff.
Theres 2 KOA's withing a few minutes there.
Charlestown State Park
(DNR run, but still, its ground to camp)
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=louisville+camping&gl=us&hl=en&cd=26&ei=GYIVS6OVLpe0MOKwxPoB&ie=UTF8&view=map&cid=7964109868620533385&iwloc=A&ved=0CA4QpQY&sa=X
This is KOA
I just called and its about $35 a night, but thats one site, one vehicle, 2 people only allowed in. which is a little steep for my blood.
But its also only like 5 minutes away
http://www.koa.com/where/ky/17138/

This is another.
http://www.koa.com/where/ky/17131/
KOA's are too homely for me.
This is a shady little place which is really trippin my trigger.
I called, no answer.
less than 4 miles from the venue.
http://www.yellowpages.com/info-24680332/Park-Pine-Crest
Everything else i found looks a little outta range.
But im going for sure.
And I got a caravan makin the trip! ALL THREE DAYS!!!!!!!

I'll bet "Matthews" works as well, but use "Chesney" even if you don't like him.

Ohhh... I didn't notice that. Anyways, now that the first (American) tour date has come out for next year, when exactly do the other dates begin to trickle out. My memory escapes me as to when they usually are announced. I really want to start planning a trip to SPAC for next year too.

Whatup all..I'm a Louisvillian as well. Pumped to get a 2nd show in 3 years here in the Ville'. The shows end at 11 each night, so if your heading out afterwards theres a few different spots that'll be phat. The clubs are mainly downtown, DJ's and such. The more laid back scene is The Highlands(5 minutes from downtown). Lots of bars within walking distance..bands, real cool. If you want some good eats, Frankfurt Ave. Indian, Italian, 4 star, lots of good stuff..

Nice, I tried last night but my computer wouldn't load ticketmaster all the way so I had to wait until I came into work. i was pumped to get on the dirt track because the offical festival website shows the $95 range as in the grand stands only.

Yes, "Chesney" works for all days.

The Hilton Garden Inn was 118 per night (internet on expedia only - the best rates if you call or go to their site are 180, even with AAA). It is 1 and 1/3 miles away, right at the end of Central Ave - which should be a safe walk after the show as a million cars and pedestrians will be filing out down that road. They also told me that they would almost certainly have a free shuttle, and that parrking there for occupants is free.

My only complaint was with Carter, too. I wish they would have included something where he goes nuts...like a Two Step solo. I dug Gogol Bordello, too. They were freakin' nuts, but I liked their music. Apparently they play a lot of festivals, so I'd like to see them added to the HullabaLou lineup :thumbsup

Make your own blown glass art at Glassworks on Market St., visit the Louisville Slugger Museum, check out a baseball game at Slugger Field, find some fossils at the Falls of the Ohio state park, shop/eat/party along the eclectic Bardstown road, eat at Lynn's Paradise Cafe. The Speed Art Museum, Derby Museum, Ali Center, the Arms Museum and the Science Museum are all worthwhile, depending on what you are in to. The Louisville Zoo is an excellent zoo imo. Take a walk along some of Old Louisville's streets and in Cherokee Park to see some great architecture. Great pizza and music at Clifton's on Frankfurt Ave. The Back Door bar on Bardstown is a good dirty bar.

There was about 10 people at the 10pm show last night. Besides Carter's drums being turned down a little too much, the show was awesome. Really liked Ben Harper and the Gogol Bordello even though they were completely insane.

I know it wont happen because it makes no sense, but I would love an early june Riverbend, then the HullaLou, follwed by a September Deer Creek. This would spread out my fun, and I love the cooler temps.

We bought the $160 3 day passes so we are in the General admission seating in the grandstand. It looks to me from the website and seating chart that it is going to be a race to see who gets to the best spots in GA. Im glad DMB is playing Sunday so that I get two days to plan on the best way to get good seats in the section.

It also looks like we are as far away from the stage as possible :BANG

The seating set up is awful, and will get a lot of complaints. You could easily have gotten center front seats if you wanted to pay about 1000 bucks for a 3 day VIP. If you paid the 280 or so for a one day VIP, you got the front section , but way on the left or right of the stage. Anything else puts you far away, and especially for GA - where you are put in the Grandstands WAY off to the side. Better hope for good jumbotrons. They need to do it like Jazzfest in New Orleans - make it all General Admission, keep everything in the infield, have more interesting acts, have local food/restaurant vendors instead of the usual corn dogs and nacho chips....I want to run this thing! :D

Rough lineup IMO

It has its ups and downs

DMB and Steve Miller Band will be fun for sure

Govt' Mule and the Black Crows will be solid too. I also go with my family to see Kenny Chesney every summer and he isn't doing a summer tour this year so it give my brother and I a chance to keep the tradition going. I am also excited to see the Zac Brown Band.

I was told by a friend and the ticketmaster lady that sitting in the 100's would be better than sitting on the sides down on the track. Anyone been to a show here before? I ended up in 122 in the front row. I think I did ok.

Also, for all the Kenny Chesney comments, not a huge fan but I did see him live last year and the year before with a group of people, its really not a bad show. Not a lot of intriguing artistic value (ha) but they put on one hell of an entertaining show. I will say you don't go to a Chesney show to mellow out and get in touch with your "inner soul" haha, its more of karaoke on major steroids.

I agree with the comments about Chesney. I think he puts on a pretty good show, but I know what you mean about artistic value :lol

I'd say there's an outside chance of Dave coming out and playing I'm Alive with Chesney...that is if the band is off the 24th, which I highly doubt they will be, but you never know.

As far as Kenny Chesney goes...you are spot on in saying that he puts on a good show. The guys has been a touring monster for the last few summers. He is taking this summer off except for a few festival stops, so I could see his shows this coming summers shows being even more amped up due to the lack of performances. Should be another good show.

Saw the Police a couple years back at Churchill. I was dead center with the stage but one of the last rows back and I would have to say they were better seats than the sides along the track. CD is not designed very well for concerts so the side views look to be horrible. I feel sorry for the people with general admission tickets.

Yeah, Im starting to regret my decision of buying the general admission seats. The only good thing I can think of is that I'm going to have 2 nights before DMB to allow me to scope out the best spots and how early I will have to make it to the stage on Sunday to get a good spot if there are any. And you really cant beat 50+ concerts for $160.

I went to IU Southeast, which is a branch of IU Bloomington. I'm keeping the IU avatar until spring training, then I'll switch to a Mariners one :cool

Oh, come on..., Huey Lewis and The News? Are you kidding me? I don't have anything against them, but, ugh, couldn't they get some more interesting /new/less well known act? I mean, what's fun about festivals like Jazzfest (which I understand this was supposed to be modelled after) is stumbling upon something new, and being able to hear some of your favorites all in the same day. Hell, this is like the State Fair line-up.

Now, Sara Evans, well, I'll just say I'd like to be the "Suds in The Bucket"54681

That would be pretty flippin sweet. Did you see where MMJ is giving all proceeds from the digital downloads of their newest CD to Ear X Tacy for this month? That's badass!

:thumbsup

Their last show at Waterfront was sweet. I hadn't heard about them giving money to Ear X Tacy...that's pretty awesome though. I know Jim James (or Yim Yames or whatever he's going by now :lol) loves that places (as do I) and speaks very highly of it.

I went to the album release show at Ear X Tacy for Evil Urges and that was pretty awesome. Maybe they could do another show in there to raise some money for them :thumbsup

Didn't go - I'm still kicking myself. The quality of the recording is very good. It has some great Davespeak, and Wild Horses is a bonus. I listen to this show frequently. Dave is frustrated at times with the drunken yahoos it seemed. I heard they were pretty unimpressed with the crowd that night. Didn't Dave say something about it during one of the next shows?

Saw the Police a few years back at CD. I think it all depends on where your seats are. Anyone between the stage and track should have a good view but people behind the track will get hosed. Like you all said though, anytime DMB comes to Louisville and especially Churchill Downs, I'm a happy camper.

Exactly. The Police show was good, but even people in the front section were distant from the stage, and could basically only watch the jumbotrons to see anything. I remember being disappointed with my on the track in the center seats.

Question for you guys that have been to Churchill Downs. Never been to Churchill Downs before. How is the parking situation? Is it hard to get in and out of the area right around Churchill Downs (other than the massive amounts of cars that will be trying to get in and out of there)? Also if I got a hotel in Louisville, could I possibly walk to Churchill Downs? Or is it too far off by itself to walk? Just wondering how the traffic situation will be and if there is any way that I can avoid it if at all possible. Any suggestions from those who have been would be helpful.

I am also wondering the same thing. I am camping in Clarksville so I am wondering how I should expect traffic and parking to work out.

I just saw the announcement that Ricky Skaggs will headline the Bluegrass tent. I'm not sure there are a whole lot of Bluegrass fans on this site but this diversity is, I think, a very good thing. Now, if they could add a blues stage, a jazz tent, Indie bands and a world stage, along with some unique Kentucky food offerings, this festival could become a winner like the New Orleans Jazzfest.

Would love to see all of ZBB, but i gotta go for Dwight Yoakam...ZBB has some good stuff, but Dwight is a legend, I wish DMB didn't overlap with Dwight (even though its only 10 mins), probably gonna have to miss the end of his show to make the beginning of DMB, they could have at least spread the big names out a little bit...oh well, will be a pretty exciting few hours either way

Heh, the main reason I think that is because Lville wasnt toured last year during the album tour. So im thinking they will get their fair share of Big Whiskey. Also, Louisville isnt a destination type spot for Dave so I dont see them getting anything crazy/special. Ill keep my hopes up though. I loved the 08 concert.

Not sure how ticket sales are going but I do know if you get general admission tickets, you are fucked. The view according to Hullabalou's map looks horrible for general admission. That setlist looks pretty accurate too. DMB is getting a longer timeslot than the other headliners so I expect a full show but I don't expect them to play anything too crazy. Something similar to the Slugger Field show with 5-7 Big Whiskey songs mixed in.

I don't know...most of the artists here are well known, contemporary artists. Therefore, the fans here will not be the "hardcore" dave fans. Most of them will be there to see another band and will stick around to see the band because they are the headliners. This makes predicting the setlist a little difficult.

That being said, I think we will see 5-7 BW songs, Everyday, Where are you going, Ants, and then it's kind of a wild guess.

Very similar IMO. Like ComeNDance said, I'd expect the regular rotation of BW songs plus the bigger hits like Crash and Jimi Thing. DDTW opener and Two Step or Ants closer would be expected. The rarer songs we would get would likely be Hello Again or SUAD.

Kinda what I figured. Shake Me, Funny, You&Me, Why I Am, Everyday, Ants, Crash. Stuff along those ilnes. Not that there's anything wrong with those, I suppose.

Also, where is everyone parking? I was thinking about parking at the Expo Center, but that's kinda far away. I can go out on 65, or the Watterson to 64. I'm going back to Somerset and not Lexington, if that helps. TIA.

I was there...n1 was a little disappointing (aside from Two Step --> Ants) because it was very similar to Riverbend, but n2 was good stuff.

Call me greedy, but I'm not pleased with the shorter sets (time figures from DMB Almanac) this year compared to last.

Riverbend '09 - 2 hrs, 24 mins
Riverbend '10 - 2 hrs, 1 min

Deer Creek n1 '09 - 2 hrs, 35 mins
Deer Creek n1 '10 - 2 hrs, 22 mins

yup that's the GA section. its almost like your at another venue watching a different concert and DMB just happens to be playing next door. except there's no other concert to watch and it cost you 70 bucks to hang out down the street from the real show...

yeppp...thats what im thinking i will be in for...Hope the beer is cheap :haha

Just stopping in to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip ever to Alpine this weekend...now I know what all the fuss is about!

What a true pleasure it was to be surrounded by REAL FANS who were there for the MUSIC! I'm a long time Deer Creeker and as much as I will always love DC, Alpine might be my new fave venue...I will definately be back in 2012! :hump:hump

Anybody heard anything about tailgating in Churchill's lots? There's no re-entry and I'm sure beers will be $9, so there's no way we're going in @ 1pm.

I highly doubt they'll let you and there isn't much room to tailgate at Churchill. I suggest parking at the football stadium (about a 15 minute walk) and you'll have all the room you want to tailgate.

:thumbsup

This is probably the only way you will actually be able to tailgate and what I'll probably end up doing. I'd be shocked if they allowed it at Churchill.

I managed to come up with some tickets in t6 row d. I thought these would be amazing but from the looks of the picture they won't be as good as I thought, unless DMB moves the stage a little closer to the seats. I'm surprised how far from the front row seats that the stage is in the realview pictures.

I put in an e-mail through the official website, but I'm sure that won't get answered. I don't need a lot of room, just enough for a few chairs and a cooler!:)

You may be ok if you aren't planning on setting up a canopy/grill/etc. or anything, but it's still doubtful I think.

Keep us posting on the response and here's hoping they'll allow it!

on the festivals facebook page there was a question about tailgating in the lots. the respose from whoever is running the page for the fest said something to the effect of "tailgate away!" it sounds like we should be ok!

When we went to see the Rolling Stones there 2 or 3 years ago, we parked in the GA parking lot in front of CD. We opened the back door of my sisters SUV, we ate and drank all we wanted. Of course we didn't have canopies or anything like that but no one bothered us at all. I'd say if you want to do it up proper tailgate style you should park at the Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium lots.

Cheers!
