Why can I set a plugged in Strat or any other electric guitar right next to my Amps, but with my acoustic I can't get anywhere near the Amp or it starts to squeal.
Is it the hollow body? Or is it operator error?
Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!

This is called feedback. What happens is that the strings vibrate, making a sound, which comes out of the amp. The sound waves from the amp cause the strings to vibrate more, and the cycle repeats, getting stronger and stronger. Acoustic guitars are much more prone to this because the hollow body makes them resonate more in response to the sound waves.
By simply facing away from the amp, you can help curb the tendency to feed back. There is also a simple device called a Feedback Buster, which is basically a rubber plug that you put in your soundhole, that helps to deaden the guitar and reduce feedback.

If by "squeal" you mean a fat feedback like "I Feel Fine" mentioned above, like a big hummmmmmmm, then this might solve your problem: http://www.jr.com/jim-dunlop/pe/DUP_FBR2/
