I really hope the band doesn't think all of their fans are as ungrateful as some of you seem. If this is what dave thought his whole fanbase was made up of I could understand him taking next year off, hell why even come back? Don't understand why every single show has to have it's own unique setlist. How many bands, especially this far in their career, play 75 different songs in a summer tour? Unless you were there why does it matter what he played at the show before yours?

Stefan: "Hey Dave, I have some ideas for the setlist tonight"
Dave: "No"
Stefan: "But..."
Dave: "Go away Fonz, I need to practice my Cornbread dance"

IF Dave teases the Last Stop AND plays Can't Stop at Alpine I swear to God I will rush the stage....
If Fonz or Coffin tease it I will be okay with it but if Dave does it by himself and plays can't stop its over.

Dave: "Stefan, you've been making my breakfast for the last 20 years, how many times do I have to tell you I'm fucking sick of eggs and toast?"
Stefan: "Well, now you know how our fans feel everyday."
Dave: "Everyday.........now you're talking!"

Phish opened the first three nights of their tour this summer playing around 55 songs with not one repeat.

The band is on stage, mid set, between songs. Stefan begins humming Last Stop, and Dave overhears.
Dave: Hey Fonz what tune is that again?
Stefan: Come ON Dave, it's Last Stop...I've been working on it for 2 weeks now...
Dave: Well, we've already been playing Can't Stop, and both names have "stop" in them. Close enough...let's do that one instead.
*Can't stop is added to the setlist*

The thing is, Dave has no reasoning for not playing songs that most people want to hear. I'm sorry, but I don't buy into the whole, "most fans want to hear Corn Bread instead of Dreaming Tree" argument because that's just not true. If you were at Alpine last year, you would have literally felt the life get sucked out of everyone when they started playing Smooth Rider. He has no reasoning for not playing some of his better songs other than, "I don't feel like playing them." Really? You don't feel like playing a song you've played 81 in 12 years but you don't mind playing a song you've played 170 times in 3 years?

That's weird cause if you go on the Phish boards you hear a lot of the same bitching about "This boring, this band is fucked," and the response of "Guys be grateful they're even playing!"

I couldn't be more excited. I really enjoyed the Deer Creek shows and this weekend at Alpine could be the last time I see the band in a long time. I'm gonna enjoy it no matter what. You weren't more excited in years past? You honestly couldn't be more excited? I welcome a break if this shit continues. Seeing them in 2012 will be at least refreshing, even though they'll probably continue to play the same shit.

I'm always excited when I go to shows, especially Alpine, but the fact that this is the last time I will see them for a long time makes me more excited. No matter what they play, I'm gonna have an awesome time. I'd take JTR and BEF openers. Just because it's predictable doesnt mean they aren't awesome songs. That's two songs out of 20. You're forgetting about BEF, JTR, Hello Again, LITHOG, Squirm, Bartender, Cry Freedom, Billies, Two Step, Digging a Ditch, etc.
You guys never talk about the good things in the set. All you ever do is complain about teh cornbread. Who gives a shit? It's like 6 minutes of the show, get over it

Remember folks.....
It is not because the songs that the band chooses to play suck........
It is not because the band plays the songs they play poorly....
It is because the band refuses to do what is necessary to play to their full potential.....
This primarily includes lack of spontaneity and creativity with set lists, due to sheer laziness alone. Yet they don't reduce ticket prices.

I agree in the predictable sets night after night but at this point Im over it. But I have to wonder if Jeff Coffin is thinking why the hell am i playing the same show every night still, can I go back to my other band. I would have to think he might be tired of this stale routine already
That might be the case, but I bet he isn't tired of the massive paychecks.

I will say this. The show was fun, had a decent crowd around me. Then all of a sudden...bam.
Eh Hee. Can't Stop. Corn bread. It took the energy right out of everyone.
It was neat, bc when the band played Cry Freedom...I thought to myself...okay, I like this song...but does everyone else. The entire section was singing along. Pretty cool moment...I'm also surprised by how many people like You and Me. (i do)
Then the encore...I pretty much knew after Timebomb it was either 2step or Tower...This dude was so sure the band was going to play the Last Stop he told everyone, over and over. When the band played watchtower...I kid you not, dude started to scream "whhhyyyyyy" and wait for it...cried. I can't make this shit up. hahaha...Altho, I would be lying if I said I wasn't crying on the inside. But man, people love thier watchtower...crowd was into it..

i had a great time. the set might not be the best ever, but they still brought it and you could tell they band was into it, and the crowd was pretty good too, singing along to cry freedom. #40 was quite the surprise as well. jimi had a thank you interpolation and sexy mother fucker, which everyone just ate up.

Show was fun until the end run, and then sucked when some dumb bitches in front of me started talking really loudly during #40 and Dave's intro to Little Red Bird.
Their conversation was limited, but loud, until one of them got up and went back to the lawn and started a conversation at the stairwell about how much each of them owed for their beers. I told them really loudly, "Hey I can get a cacluator out and do this for you..." They didn't know if I was serious or kidding, but they sure shut the hell up quickly.

While I actually found a bunch of the conversations in here pre and post show pretty funny, I still don't get why people personally attack me for having a strong opinion that differs from their own. I have never, and will never, wish a bad show upon someone or think it's funny that they got a bad show because of his or her beliefs. Hell, I can't stand most of the Alpine fluffers around here, but I hope the shows this weekend are fantastic.
As far as tonight, I saw that someone thought I'd have more to say other than "Not very good" (which I posted from my phone on the way back from the show). Honestly, if there was more to say, I would have said it. 4 pre-2000 songs. A brutal run of songs to end the set prior to Ants. A flubbed Hello Again. Very little passion or energy from the band all night long. It's one thing for someone to say that the band mailed it in because of a shitty setlist only to have folks at the show come back and say that the band was on fire. Tonight, they were anything but. Also, I tried to start the Last Stop chant at planned, and even asked the dudes next to me to help me and my fiance out, and got NO response from them. Honestly, most people in the 100's tonight looked like they couldn't have cared less about the show, and many people around us didn't know half the songs played (including these 4 douchebag yuppies in front of us who talked through most of the show, including every single quiet song/moment).
However, I do try to take something away from every show I attend. LITHOG was excellent, and I dig the little reggae outro. I was thrilled to hear Little Red Bird, because I never in a million years thought I would -- very nice little song. And it was absolutely priceless to watch this wasted kid walk down to the front of 102 (we were on the aisle on Fonz's side), completely oblivious to where he was and where he was supposed to be, and hand the security guard his fucking driver's license when she asked for a ticket. He was escorted back to his seat in 101, yet returned to the aisle less than two songs later. High, high comedy.

Thanks. If I'm anything, I'm honest, and tonight just really was not a good show. It wasn't a terrible show by any means -- it had its moments and the first half of the set was actually pretty solid -- but it certainly wasn't a good show either. I honestly just don't know how anyone could see a set with these songs and just 4 pre-2000 tunes and come away satisfied.
I've actually been really bummed out since the show ended, but I'm honestly not even sure how to express my exact thoughts on the state of things right now.

I barely noticed it. Someone (from Ants) had a big sign for The Stone in the front row of the pit tonight, and Dave acknowledged it a couple times. He strummed a couple notes and then went into #40.
Also, I had a Minarets sign tonight, which Dave did point at early in the set but ignored later when I had it up. My fiance had one that said "@SLessard: LAST STOP" (obviously referencing Twitter) and he smiled and nodded at her, and then kind of shrugged and gave a :shrug face, almost as if to say, "If it were up to me..."

I support zilla. Always like ur posts. I have been to 4 shows this year, alpine this weekend and it feels like I have been seeing more "song" signs. To me it shows the band is not giving us fans the variety and a consistent mix of the kick ass older tunes. I'm hopeful for alpine, but will keep expectations low.

but thats what this band is starting to do. i drove 4 hours to spac n2 and left feeling like dmbzilla did last night. tonight is my 20th show. i literally have anxiety about going tonight. i used to get so much joy out of going to these shows. the only thing i can compare it to, is going to visit a friend and realizing they have a drinking problem. i feel like tonight, i will go see the friend again, and fucking hope they've cleaned up their act.
with that being said, i am hopeful about tonight. it can't get much worse than last nights set. i didn't have a ticket til last night (scored 100's row d on livenation). lets keep our fingers crossed for an enjoyable show tonight!

Ok, so went to my first show this summer last night, 30th overall, and I have been one of the people hating on the setlists a little bit. Then you read comments from people that went to the other shows and how the setlist shouldn't really matter and how it's great to just be at a dave show no matter what they play.....and I'm not going to lie, I didn't really believe that at all, until last night. While the set was not "great", I had a fucking blast. I thought that the band, especially Dave and Boyd, really showed up and wanted to be there last night. Dave was cracking jokes, even making light fun of Boyd after Boyd tore a solo up. It was GREAT. Honestly, I will never bitch about setlists again because this band is the fucking best.
And I read a few pages back that someone said the band didn't bring energy....flubbed Hello Again...and many more complaints.....Honestly Hello Again was soooooo good and the band had energy.
I now agree with the people that say, if you don't like what you see/hear...don't go to shows anymore. I can't wait for tonight!

I had a great time and enjoyed the show. And I'm VERY glad I'm going back tonight.
And watching the buses exit has become a fun little tradition. Dave, Carter, Fonz, Jeff/Rashawn made it a fun mini-parade.

I'm posting from a cell so I can't elaborate much. Honestly though I'm not excited for tomorrow at all. I saw kings of leon a month ago and they blew this band out of the water.
Well...there goes your credibility......

Tonights going to be my only show this year...after 50+ shows over the last 10 years. All of you that are truly freaking out about the setlists...theres only one cure for it. You've got to step away from all of this. Stop posting here, stop checking out the setlists. You'll feel much better. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with you, but its unhealthy behavior that won't allow you to enjoy a show. I'm going to enjoy tonight no matter what.....because I want to. And thats all that matters.

Don't know if this was mentioned yet... Someone next to me in the pit had a sign that said "THE STONE". Before he teased #40 as he walked out, he pointed to the sign, and gave a tiny thumbs up. BEfore #40 he played the first riff one time, and I think, yelled something like "I can't get it right!". But, that could have been in reference to the Last Stop chant, #40, or Little Red Bird.
Either way, STONE tonight..

I dunno, I thought last night's show was excellent. The opening run of Squirm/BEF->Bartender/Hello Again was just solid. Seriously, we got Hello Again, Big Eyed Fish, Cry Freedom, an amazing mid-set Billies, and Little Red Bird. A year ago, that setlist would've been "OMG LIKE WTF TAHTS AMAZZZZING!!!!".
Eh Hee, Can't Stop, and then Cornbread was the lowlight of the show.
The line for the ferry was 100x improved this year, police were everywhere making sure losers didn't cheat the line. Compared to Night 1 last September, which I thought was a lazy show, this was way better.

My Camden N2 Predictions:

2. Nancies midset
3. Spacehouse (Spaceman>>>>Whouse) later on.
4. Two Step and So Right in the closer spots.
5. No tour debuts.
6. #41 in the first 4 songs
7. Dave leaves Camden wishing the tour was over so he could get back to being a movie star and hanging out with Sandler.

First time in the Pit was a great experience. Was a good set (except the later run as stated), and the N1 AATW was cool to finish with.
Everyone in the pit seemed real chill/fun and just there to have a good time.. minus for the couple who tried to mosh their way upfront (until they were removed by security, they just kept saying "nature of the pit brah", we told them to go to a Metalica concert:thumbsup) and then some kid who somehow ended up by me for the encore and just kept screaming at Dave and everyone around him during every song including LRB... someone tell that kids mom to give him a damn hug.. seriously:twak
But besides that, was very awesome being so close (3rd row and we didn't even get in until around 6:30), and I definitly am looking forward to tonight.. although now I'm a spoilled Ant who feels I NEED to be super close for every show hahah

I also thought the show was fantastic. We had a lot of fun last night. We had great seats. I am really excited about tonight, I think good, good times will be had tonight.
This is our first time at Camden. I really liked the venue. The sound in the pavillion is great and surprisingly really good back in the lawn too. We will be chilling on the lawn tonight. The only negative experience was parking. We parked in the lot directly across from the venue and the entire experience pretty much sucked ass...
I have done some research about the ferry but still have some questions? I am looking at a map of Penn's Landing right now. It looks like there is a parking lot right at the ferry, on Walnut? Is this a good place to park? Can we park early in the day and explore Philly and remain parked there all day? Also, can you have a few adult beverages in the lot prior to boarding the boat?
Any advice would be helpful.

You may be right. But for me, collecting tapes of shows has been a hobby of mine for the past few years. Considering I only have 3 shows out of the 16 this year bums me out (1 show might i add, was at).
I can only remember 1 or 2 tours over the past 10 years that AT THE TIME were not totally and completely ripped to shreds online setlist-wise. In hindsight, we DMBheads love just about everything but it takes two or three years before a set looks good on paper. If a bad show these days is getting Big Whiskeyed with a side of cornbread/can't stop I guess I'll take it. I remember getting 18 minute long versions of Angel, with Butch putting more people to sleep than Ambien. There's a Hershey show that I was at after Everyday came out that has to be one of the top 5 worst setlists of all time....somebody has to know what I'm talking about.
I'm just glad the band is secure enough with themselves to keep Timmy out on tour with them. If I went back to 2006 and told everyone that in 2010 the band would be touring with Timmy and Jeff Coffin, playing songs from a new album thats generally well received in the community, people would have cried tears of joy. Its all about how we choose to perceive things. I was fed up awhile back so I stepped away from following the band online and downloading shows. I picked up the new album, went to some shows, had a good time. I'm only back on here to get a general idea of what to expect tonight since I truly had nooooo clue what was going on.
It sucks that so many of you are disillusioned with what you perceive as the bands effort or creativity. That can only mean that its time to step away. Going to a show has got to be something you're so jacked for that the band really has to suck horrendously for you not to have a good time. Since I slowed down going to DMB shows(1 or 2 a year down from 5 or 6), I've had a chance to see some other bands live that I've always wanted to. Radiohead and Tool to name a few.....and I couldn't imagine a scenario where I would have been disappointed. I was just so pumped to see some bands that I truly loved. I don't want to get into comparing bands and how they tour, because everyone loses. I'm just saying that if following THIS band is leaving you disappointed/miserable then you NEED to step back. You will thank me later.

Thanks! I think this may be our plan for the day! What do you know the Plash trolly thing that run thru Philly, says it's $5 for the day? Seems like a good deal?
As far as parking goes, I am just getting to old for this I think. I thought $25 to park was steep, then there is ZERO control over where/how people park once you turn into the lot. I am used to a bit more orderly, staff-guided parking environment. Getting out was stressful...then we got a bit lost...just stressful all the way around. But the show was GREAT!!!

While I actually found a bunch of the conversations in here pre and post show pretty funny, I still don't get why people personally attack me for having a strong opinion that differs from their own.
I read back, and I don't think they are "personally attacking" you. (Maybe I missed something? Would be easy to do.)
I think they just find you funny because you spend sooo much time in here posting the same thing over and over and over and over and over. Basically, you come across as someone who believes he can control what the band does by posting the same thing endlessly on a message board.
Then, when it's time for you to go to a show, you again try to control the band (and the crowd) via the same message board, thinking you are going to get a massive chant going--one that forces DMB to do what you want, when, by your own account, even the 4 people around you didn't support it.
Do you not see the humor in all of that activity on your part?
Again, I really don't think people are trying to "personally attack" you. It is clear that a lot of ants really like you and agree with what you have repeatedly said.
I think that some just find your methods funny and make jokes accordingly.
P.S. Best wishes for N2!

The ferry lot is located directly adjacent to where you board the actual ferry, right on Columbus Boulevard next to the Hyatt. Parking in the main lot is $17 a car, and I believe the ferry is $7 a person round trip. You can park any time -- there are always plenty of spots -- and can leave your car there all day. They're also pretty relaxed as far as tailgating in the ferry lot goes, but I would recommend plastic cups instead of straight bottles or cans. The line to get tickets for the boat can get insanely long (we purchased ferry tickets for tonight last night), but if you're coming for the day you shouldn't have a problem if you pick the tickets up before heading into the city.
Also, when leaving the show, if you stay through the encore you'll most likely have to take the second boat back, which leaves about 30 minutes after the concert ends.

Dont know anything about the trolly. Just know about the ferry because I rode it two years ago. The wait after the show was terrible though. If you stay for the whole show, it takes forever to get on the boat and people are idiots.

Luckily the cops had things very under control last night. The line was incredibly orderly and they made sure that any line jumpers were sent right to the back. We made it right onto the second boat with no problems at all, and honestly the 30 minute wait to get back across to Philly is well worth not having to deal with Campbell's for me.

Cool, all that sounds reasonable. So we can buy tickets for the ferry tonight when we get there this afternoon?
Is it fairly easy to get out of the ferry lot and Philly? Especially if we catch the second Ferry over after the show. Nothing can be as bad as driving around in circles lost in Camden like we did last night.

It's incredibly easy to exit the lot in Philly. You basically turn right and can pick up I-95 less than a mile from the lot, or make a left to head south on Columbus and from there you can cut into Center City on numerous side roads.
Where do you need to go after the show?

Does anyone know of any other parking lots in Camden besides the main one? We took the ferry last night and waited an hour and a half for it. We wanted to try parking in Camden tonight but don't want to deal with drunk 16 year olds in the main lot.
Well theres the Campbells Field/Aquarium lots. Also, the few random businesses along Market that open their lots around 5 for tailgaters, and also the stacked lot between the Aquarium and the main lot. But as far as avoiding drunk 16 years olds....hahahahah......good luck with that.

Well, you'll want to jump on the Ben Franklin Bridge then after the show, which is just above the lot but isn't hard to get to if you have a GPS. As I said, you'll wait about 30 minutes if you miss the first ferry back to Philly, but personally I think it's well worth risking that to not have to park in the shitshow that is Camden.
Actually, you could also just head to the Walt Whitman Bridge too, which is just a few minutes south of the ferry lot.

I was a little disappointed with last nights set. Beings it was a 1st night, I expected it to be a little more on the mellow side but that run towards the end was horrendous. Don't get me wrong I love this band but I no longer find that passion in me to travel to see them. I will do my two Philly shows but I no longer feel the need to travel to places to see the band. I'm not dropping a lot of money going all over the country to see the same generic set list every night. I don't know how you can totally neglect your pre 2000 music which enabled you to sell 2 shitty albums like Everyday and Stand Up on name alone. I almost didn't didn't even go this year but knew I had to or I would regret it, even if I got a set like last night because you never know when it might be the last time. The fact that I didn't buy multiple tickets because I was trying to keep upgrading my seats tells me how far I have come from my days of hitting 8-10 shows a year. I'm not asking for an epic set every night but I am hoping to hear a couple songs spritzed in that made me fall in love with this band. Would it kill them to start a show with Seek Up? To mix in a LIOG, The Stone, Last Stop or even Pig. I do love the Lillywhite stuff and don't mind the BW stuff. I understand they want to play their newer stuff but you can't forget the tunes that made you the band you are today or the people who helped you attain the status you have obtained. Here's hoping to a set tonight that has a couple older tunes mixed in.

Agreed....great show last night. I really enjoyed it. I gave up PIT tix for ones in 103D last night and for 101 G tonight and am so glad after seeing how crowded it was. Can't wait for tonight.

Just a heads up to everyone, I just got turned away from the main lot. The attendant informed us they are under orders to not open any of the lots until 4pm today. Bummer for anyone else that wanted to tailgate properly.

Jimi is a great song. If you hear it at a show and get pissed because they played it at another show you weren't at, then that's a problem. It's one of the better jams they have right now.
LITHoG is a much better jam IMO right now. They need to do crush this year too.

I moved to the lawn last night and it was pretty bad. I left the show and just talked to homeless people. I'm pit again tonight and I plan on bitching to mgmnt about the overcrowding. But hoping for a better experience tonight.

LITHOG is great, but I think Jimi highlights each member and let's them jam a little bit more.
Hope you guys get The Stone and #40 tonight. I'd love to see both of those this weekend :thumbsup

Yeah I can imagine, shame though. Half the fun of seeing Dave down here is that I get to rag on my friends from north jersey who can't tailgate at all at PNC for any concert. Oh well, Just have to grill faster once we get there I suppose.
I also just found out a friend and his sister decided to hit the lot for tickets for the show tonight. Anyone have extra lawn seats they're trying to get rid of?

They played some great songs last night but the second half of the show was very weak. It doesn't get much worse than eh hee, can't stop and cornbread as far as runs go and the encore was mediocre and predictible.
