Hey guys. I'm looking for a hotel in Boston for the Sunday between SPAC and these shows. Where in Boston is the main bar area (something similar to Austin's 6th street?)? Basically, I want to be able to walk out of my hotel and find a dozen or so bars all within walking distance. Any recommendations? Doesn't have to be specific hotels, but if someone could point me toward an area or street etc...
Thanks.
The Marriott Copley Place or The Colonnade are right across from the Pru. The Marriott actually has a bar in it, and if you walked through the Pru you'd be on Boylston St. where there are a bunch of bars. But really, as long as your hotel is actually in Boston you won't ever be too far from a bar.

Sweet. Thanks a lot! That seems to be around the area I was already looking at (I was looking around Fenway, as I assumed there'd be a lot of bars around the ballpark). Thanks again.
Fuckin-a hotels are expensive in Boston!

Yeah, they are real expensive in the city. Fenway has a bunch of bars near it, I just can't think of any hotels near there off the top of my head. Anywhere in the Back Bay area or down by the TD Garden is full of bars as well. If you want to cut costs it might be worth it to look at some outside the city that are near a T station. Though the T doesn't run past 12:30 so that could end up being an issue.

when i dont feel like driving to boston i just take the T from lowell to north station.
i totally space that after Fenway n2 last year...thought the T ran later...got there and just missed the last train...had to call my ma to pick up me and my ex...very embarrassing...:lol

Hey! my sister works at Holy Cross. :) I live pretty close from there, and I'm actually going to be out and about in Worcester tonight! Come to the Banner after dinner for a drink! haha
As far as restaurant suggestions, I'm a big fan of O'Connors, the sole is good, but can be pricey, anywhere on Shrewsbury street is good too!
I love the Banner, but I haven't been there in ages....good ol' Seannie Mac! Maybe I'll head over there. If I do I'll text you.

First time back to Mansfield since N1 2005
which in my opinion was a very underrated show of that tour
first #34 in 12 years, drive in drive out, say goodbye, LIOG, Crush, What You Are, DDTW. I feel like Mansfield gets no love, they have played some great shows there.

Yeah it was nuts! We lucked out and parked at the other guy's house, which is a block away from the Boynton. We waited till like 830/9ish figuring it would have died down a little...no sir. We got there and they said the wait was over an hour.

I agree! I actually watched the finale last night and I know exactly the look you are referring to. Haha. A long time ago, I heard someone say they thought maybe Bernard and Rose are the Adam and Eve skeletons but who knows. Just one theory i heard. I don't think Juliet survives, but we'll find out soon enough!!!

I've heard that Rose and Bernard theory too. I think that might turn out to be true. I'd have a hard time buying Juliet being alive after the finale of S5.

Hey Everyone, longtime Ants member, very scarce poster here, but I'm here to provide information for everyone for the 2010 Mansfield shows, since I work at the venue and live 10 minutes from it.
For campers:
http://www.canoeriver.com/
That's pretty much the only place around the Comcast Center that does camping. There's nowhere to camp on the CC grounds themselves (unless you can outfox security).
As far as the lots go, yes, they're still trying to curb drinking at the facility, so if I had to guess, with a 7pm show start time, they'd open the lots @ either 230/3.
The bar down the street, Emma's, is very strict on carding. The outside patio will be open by then, and assuming the bartender there doesn't come to the show with me, she'll be working the patio bar, and she is very diligent about carding. However, the drinks are great, and they have some great food too.
There's another bar directly across the street from the CC, and that's Alberto's. I haven't been in there since they re-did the interior, but the pizza is top-notch, tall beers (cheaper than the 7.50/8 or even 9 you'll pay inside at the CC). There's an outdoor deck there too to hang out, and it's in between all the "private" and house parking lots.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop me a PM on here, or reply here. As the show gets closer and the 2010 Comcast Center season opens up, I'll be able to pretty much provide all the information possible, if there's an interest in any.

Because we draw all the idiot underage kids who get wasted out of their mind 3 cars over from you, ruining it for your entire row, and pretty much just asking you to get searched and have your beer poured out.
That's pretty much what it's all about too. Back in 2006/7 there was a death of a High School student from King Philip Regional, she wandered off @ a party after drinking and turned up face down in a marsh a few days later. Her mom, Kathi Meyer, has been on this underage drinking crackdown for the better part of more than 2 years. So the Bristol County Police Departments have been cracking down on it, and that includes Mansfield.

Pudge - thanks for the info and welcome back.
Some food for thought from my own personal perspective. I've probably have seen DMB about 10 times at Comcast and here's my 2 cents on parking inside vs. outside for those who are newbies:
I had one of my best tailgating experiences in 2008 with my old high school buddy by shelling out and paying like $30 or $35 for the lots outside the venue on the right hand side, right before you hit the CC lots. The cops left you alone, there's a good, relaxed vibe there w/out dummies and meatheads throwing balls into your car, but games and just a chill atmosphere. In addition, there isn't any science on when to time leaving the show, get to your car and get the hell out of the lots w/out waiting 2 hours. You basically stay for the whole show (as the last song at 10:57 winds down, we get a move on) and get to your car and you're out of the lots. The cops give you basically the first rights to leave before the CC lots, from what I remember.
Sure, the CC lots are free or part of your ticket, but it is an absolute nightmare trying to leave the lots unless you're kind of close to the escape area. In addition the cops suck. I'm all for cracking down on the prepubescent peons that shouldn't be driving anyways, because they're going to wind up in a tree or sending you in a tree, so I'm all for cracking down on them. But the cops can be ballbusters who make their rounds every 10 minutes, so if you're trying to chill, it can be a pain.
Just my opinions but I think I'm going to pay the $35 to park outside the venue near the CC lots because you can also cut right through to the CC lots and the pavillion is right there. I don't get paying $40 for VIP within the CC lots because even though you get first dibs to leave, the people outside the lots pay less than you and will leave before you.
Just food for thought.

haha. It's possible. It's funny, my buddy and I saw DMB there, the week after saw Pearl Jam in Hartford and then Eddie Vedder solo show in August in Boston. Of the 3, DMB was the best tailgating experience and I think I'm going to do it again. I admit it's a party atmosphere inside as well and everyone is grilling and having a good time, but it was very chill and relaxing in those lots as I think the cops came around 2ce the whole time. The funny thing is one of the times the cops came was after 7pm as they were trying to usher everyone in to the show, and we just wanted to finish our cigars. I remember running into the woods to piss as I think there was a hill around there, as the lines for the porto potties were ridiculous. You doing the same this year? I put in for first night for WH tix but am going to try for 2nd night through TM. Sometimes I've lucked out w/good seats thru TM.

haha. It's possible. It's funny, my buddy and I saw DMB there, the week after saw Pearl Jam in Hartford and then Eddie Vedder solo show in August in Boston. Yeah I was thinking about it. I had a great time last time when I did that, and I can't stand the 2 hours of traffic afterwards. Right now I think I'm looking at SPAC N2 and then one of the Mansfield shows. Not sure which one yet.

Hey all!
Just requested tickets for both shows... If I get accepted than this will be the first time I have ever done two in a row...
Two Questions:
1) Given the recent trend of the Band playing very similar sets back to back- do you still feel that a double nighter is worth it?
2) I've been to Tweeter/Comcast/Mansfield once before and was in the uncovered seats... I remember the acoustics and view was pretty bad... and the lawn was even worse, given the low hanging ceiling you could barely see a thing. How does Comcast rate among most venues... my favorite has always been St. Louis.. but I haven't been to too many

i think it's worth it. i love seeing the band and saw practically the same shows at cville and fenway, then got spac last year.
i dont think there's going to be much of a difference in the shows at spac/mansfield.

She goes to Holy Cross. And I'm in Boston. So its not exactly long distance, but we don't really see each other during the week, which is kind of a bummer.
The bolded is really why I'm excited for the long weekend, when I'm back at work I'll have LOST to look forward to, rather than having to get through 2 work days before LOST is on. :thumbsup:thumbsup
:lol Yeah, last year I think we saw He's Just Not That Into You for V-day. Don't get me wrong though, my girlfriend couldn't pay me to sit through Dear John. I've seen the Notebook, which I'm not afraid to admit I liked, but this looks like the same movie, except they downgraded on the acting.
My best friend gets free season tickets to their football games through work. I had a blast going to the games this year.

Sunday is perfect! I don't have to work Monday. Thats bizarre that you have to work and most of the other people don't though. Do you get time and a half for working the holiday, or an extra vacation day to take later as compensation? That would help the situation a bit. I'd still be mad though, hopefully it will be a slow day for you,

Don't let the whole "tax free thing" fool you. Sure there's no sales tax, but property taxes are way high in the state of NH and cute little towns like Hollis and Brookline add another even more, so you pay through the nose for owning property.

Lol, I'm going to do everything they say now...just incase. I'm going to have all 5 seasons loaded up in the que on Netflix. I'll try to watch them all this weekend.
I was truely afraid that I was going to ask a question in this thread and they would reply "did you know Dave was on House?"

Curling looks fun but I don't really understand how you earn points or anything. It reminds me of bocci ball on ice.

You should have called in sick today, unless you get time and a half...then nevermind. I'm salaried so I never get time and a half.
I just texted Jen and told her to come on here...but I got no reply. It must be nice to have no work today. She's probably watching Olympic curling as we speak... haha
