Wait, Ants did close the main set. The goofy dance is misplaced, no? JTR?

What time are you free to leave in the afternoon?

Dan

I'm very flexible on that. I live right by Harvard Stadium. I'll PM you. Thanks...

Other than the fact that I do not want to see more than 5 or so Big Shiskey songs in a set (not that I don't like all of them, but just want to see a better spread between albums in 2010), I have no problem with that specific BW encore run. I would have really enjoyed it. I am especially a big fan of the Bomb. Would another Watchtower really have been preferred?

I wish I could go this year. So pissed too because I am so sure that tomorrow Last Stop makes it's return. A little tease of it on Saturday, day off Sunday, ease into Mansfield Monday and then BOOM LAST STOP TUESDAY! I think tomorrow's show is going to be nasty. I've seen DMB at Mansfield a number of times and they love it there. Underrated venue. If I weren't going to Ireland next month I would buy some tickets tomorrow and just go. Have fun tomorrow to all that are going. I guarentee it will be a great set.

And all the debuts have dried up??? What was this? The 8th show of the tour? Do you want quality debuts or do you want the band to practice a song that hasn't been played in years (and don't forget Jeff doesn't know the catalog like the rest of the band) and bust it out just for the sake of doing it and it sounds shitty? There's a LOT of shows left in this tour. There will be more, but let them work on the songs and perfect them before just throwing it into a set one night. For example, I personally thought the first Kit Kat Jam of the tour was very sloppy. But, if they keep playing it this tour I bet it will be slamming by July (though Dave needs to get his shit together on that one.)

Have fun in Mansfield everyone!!!

:lol This is not the case for why songs aren't played, I gurantee it.

Hopefully everyone who went last night had a good time, hopefully you all do tonight as well.

Great music for night one! YMSB was a cool little set, nice job guys.
I love the mellow “tone” to most of the set by DMB, not a bad song in the list (though I would have liked to hear something from under the table).

Looking at the set lists for the tour so far, I can start to see why maybe 2011 will be a good place for a long break. I just don’t think the music from BW is something they can flood us with this summer and turn around and do the same next summer. I like the music, its just a thought…

Loved last night's show. The energy and flow were great. I was disappointed with the lack of flow at Hartford n2 and so I was very happy to be there last night. Wish there had been something besides 3 BW encore but that doesn't bring the show down. Wish I didn't have to sell my n2 tix for a school event............

lol jimi thing just came on my ipod... ha

they played it friday night at SPAC... it was a pretty good rendition, however definitely not my favorite... it was a lot more mellow than normal, but still good

chances are looking pretty good tonight for jimi, 41, and 2 step... however i'm hoping for Lie in Our Graves... omg i would die..

I noticed that, too!!!! Who got their signals crossed? I think Carter and Dave were on Ants, but everyone else was doing Too Much... Intentional or accidental?

That was a sick sick SICK 30+ minutes of music, all those segues...

Dan

Yeaa I thought they started ants then went into too much. but then I thought maybe i was just wearing things.

I was surprised it was an all big whiskey encore but it was my first time hearing time bomb, which i really enjoyed live. If there are no repeats tonight then its shaping up to be epic...but you know we will get seven and probably you and me.

i've never been to a dave show at comcast, but i've been to plenty... its a collection of things... if you are being loud and obnoxious and you look 21 (or younger)... well ya clearly you are going to be drawing negative attention.

my advice... if you have anyone that is <21, be as discrete as possible and you'll be fine

i was sitting in a chair last summer with my friends at a show (not at comcast)... just talking (with an EMPTY cup in hand)

I have to say, I'm excited that people at least enjoyed last night's show. The overall vibe around here seems to have moved from entitlement and anger at not getting the best set possible to just enjoying the music. That, or the expectations were low enough and the SPAC show disappointed (not sure about either of those.)

Looking forward to tonight... the seats aren't good but hopefully the music will be. Looks like a bit of an old school slant to tonight's show, which will be my 12th, and 9th at Tweeter since 2003. Look for either LIOG or DIDO to debut tonight, the band has always liked playing these in Mansfield.

There was only 1 repeat at Spac, and I think 1 at Hartford, so hopefully they continue that trend.

9/17/0 Grey St next for me

8/16/0.

10/17/3

7/17/3

My 38th show but first pit experience. I think last night might have been my favorite DMB show. Dave/Carter wrote a set that made a conscious effort to jam, showcasing each of the 3 tour-addition members with solos in the first 3 songs. It felt like an introduction, especially in the lengthy solo by Coffin on Lying in the Hands of God, which took on a serious jazz quality in the end that sounded nothing like the album version of the song (in a great way). I think they played 7 songs in the first 55 minutes, and that's including Satellite, which isn't more than 6 minutes (a personal favorite and extremely well executed on the timing-- I remember Boyd having trouble with this back in the 90's). The jams did get to be a little rambling at times, with various members not on the same page during the Ants jam that left Carter trying to pull it together (with only moderate success). Grace is Gone ended in a hoe-down jam led by Boyd, which made this yuppie stomp a foot and hoot out in a way that I can assure you I never have done. Two thirds of the way through the set Dave thanked the audience for "putting up with them while they're having fun" (or something to that effect), an admonition of the jam setlist. You are more than welcome, Dave. The pleasure was all mine.

Best seats I've ever had in all 10 of my DMB shows, a pretty good set and technically awesome. But something was missing. :ugh Short Dave scat. Short Dave dance. I was very happy all night - don't get me wrong. I just hope they are more like their old selves tomorrow - er, later today. Oy. I just got home a few minutes ago and I only live a little over an hour away. (Thank goodness we have premium parking tomorrow. I had to go the wrong way first before I could go the right way.)

I also was a bit disappointed in a three-new-song encore. When Carter started on the drums for the last song, I thought for sure it was gonna be something epic, like Halloween. Nope.

The friend who went with me (his first show) was waiting for me to decide which song to use to go pee, etc. I was gonna do Satellite, 'cuz I've gotten it so much, but I couldn't tear myself away, so we eventually took our break during Billies, which hurt, especially because we also missed most of Stay or Leave. There wasn't anything I didn't like. I LOVED Cornbread and I expect we'll get some more of that dirty little tune tomorrow. Also love Time Bomb - it's really starting to shape up.

Happened to be right by the bus route as they all filed out. SOOOOOOOOO close to Dave, my heart went pitter patter.

The people in my section were zombies (front, right side of Section 5.) I hope the people around me tomorrow get into it at least half as much as I do!

Have to respectfully disagree with you on this. Dave was dancing more than I've seen him in a long time, the guys were cracking jokes and laughing with each other between songs. Fonz especially I noticed was having an absolute blast last night. I loved Dave's teasing of introducing Carter, and Carter getting way over excited when he finally did :lol

I saw some underaged kids get busted last year, they were complete idiots. One kid started to get in the cops face and got taken down and arrested. My advice: If you see a patrol put your cups in a chair, sit quietly and wait for them to pass then, drink away and you will have no problems. Just don't be completely out of control and you'll be fine.

That set isn't even fair. That would easily be my favorite show I've seen. I think you get about 60% of that, and add some more recent songs. There's no way they only play the BW songs they didn't play last night. Expect either Why I Am or LITHOG to be repeated. I like the longer tunes (jimi, bartender, two step, etc) but not having the usual 20 minute jam was great last night. More time was devoted to songs I haven't heard a million times... LITHOG and GiG were especially strong, as was that closing spacebread run. Even an encore that might not look too impressive on paper was damn good to me.

The Carter thing was great. Maybe I've seen 'em crazier/happier or may be I've just been watching too many of the goofy youtube vids, but Dave didn't dance a lot - and I don't mean just his feet. I mean the whole body, go around the stage kinda dancing. I still loved the show though.

I really enjoyed last night's show. A few comments:
-Break For It is not a particularly good song. I wish they did more with a quality lyric like "run while we can," but the song itself is rather boring.
-The encore was actually pretty awesome.
-Grace is Gone, JTR, and Busted Stuff were major highlights. I'm very happy that they're focusing on some of these LWS tunes this tour, and hope that trend continues tonight with SUAD, BEF, and Bartender.
-If they are sticking with only one repeat a night, I'm really, really excited for what tonight will bring.
-MAJOR Mansfield props for getting on stage by 8:20 and playing until nearly 11. The curfew has KILLED these shows in the past (10:30? Nightmare.), and it was a nice surprise getting so much music in.

Officially yesterday's soundcheck was If I Had A Boat...yeah....no joke.

And then dave came out again and played the chorus riff for Watchtower himself, no words, just the guitar.

That was it, pretty weak soundcheck.

Best night of my life. Got there at 430, RAN to the pit when the gates opened. Front row center. Literally, the best seat in the house. Just to Dave's right, so the mic didn't block my view of him. Straight on view of Carter. Believe it or not, very little pushing and a little bit of room to dance. First thing when Dave comes out, reads my sign and smiles and nods at me. Amazing to be acknowledged by the man who has written the soundtrack to my life. JTR opener was what I wanted more than anything. But honestly the entire experience of being that close, of interacting with the band and seeing them interact with one another, overshadowed any feelings about the setlist. Literally, watching Dave's feet as he danced. Seeing the funny faces he made. Tim taking off his sunglasses to read our sign. Carter smiling big at me when I FREAKED out (like a lot of others apparently) thinking he was going in to Halloween in the encore. And finally (get ready to hate me) got the very first drumstick from Carter (used for at least spacebread and ants!) And on top of that, got a pick (not from Dave, who just flings it rather than aims) but from a crew guy who tossed the picks to the crowd. Best. Night. Ever.

Best. Night. Ever.

That's great, but what did your sign say??

That's great, but what did your sign say??

"2011 won't be tragic, the last 20 years have been magic." Cheesy as hell, but basically said what I wanted to express. And on the opposite side we had a target, so as soon as Carter came out with the sticks we flipped it over. We were joking that if we held the sign up with the words since the target was on the reverse side people would be throwing beer at us the whole night, but since we were in the front row we got to just hang it over the rail.

It would really surprise me if Watchtower didn't close the set or the show. It's about time just on the tour rotation alone, but in Mansfield, only 4 Watchtowers all time, 95, 96, 9/9/03 and 7/10/05. Five years since a Warehouse too. Don't be surprised with a YMDT either.

Look out for Drive In Drive Out or The Stone tonight (DIDO would be perfect for the wonderful parking situation at Mansfield).

Keeping my fingers crossed for Rhyme and Reason and emailed Jeff to tell him to play it. Definitely gonna be a killer show to end this first little leg of the tour.

I really thought they were going to play Halloween after Carter's drum solo in the encore, but they went into SMLAM instead.

I work there but attened DMB every year, parking in the back lots always suck, they seem to get let out last, when you initially enter comcast stay in the right lane they should push you into the front lots. That would be lote 1-6, if you stay to the left the push you into 9-13

PIT was amazing last night, first time I have actually seen them up close. Really great to see the band interact with each other as some of you said and to see Dave's expressions throughout the songs

hey i'm in the pit tonight..quick question. How did it work? I heard about having to get bracelet for it? I'm not looking to be right up front, i like having my room to move around. Is it easy to go in and out of the pit? (although im going to try and limit that)

Do you have a policy against photography at shows? Always thought Mansfield has lenient rules.

Yeah to get your bracelet you go right up to the two entrances the pit has, stage left and stage right, so at the bottom of section 1 and at the bottom of section 3 and they put it on there. If you have a print out pit ticket you have to get your bracelet at Guest Services, they do this to avoid people copying the pit tickets. They are cool cause they say GROO PIT on them haha! Pit was not filled up the max last night, there was a lot of room to dance around which was awesome!

EDIT: As lomg as your camera does not have a detachable lense, your good to go!

The amount of people that pick BEF/Bartender to open, Squirm and Seven early in the set, and some combination of Two Step and Watchtower to close: a) will surprise me when it's something completely different and b) a sign that the band needs to do some song placement rotation.

hey so i heard that they are really strict in mansfield...does this mean no beer in the parking lot whatsoever?

yesterday people were getting arrested left and right, it was insane. i assumed it was because they were underaged, but my friend said that there is no alcohol AT ALL allowed in the parking lot... even if you are 21+. mansfield has always been really strict, but last night seemed a lot worse than previous years.. not sure if the new rule is actually true or not though?

if you REALLY REALLY want to drink beforehand, you're going to have to shotgun beers in the port a potty or something :lol

Boston05

Last night in the lots was definitely better than in 2008. Back then, they were going after everybody. (I remember seeing them make a couple in their 40s pour out the bottle of wine they were having with their sandwiches.) But last night, the only people I saw getting carded/harassed by cops were clearly underage, and the only three people I saw get arrested were mouthing off to the cops. Unless things are drastically different tonight, you should be fine if you just use a cup and keep your cooler and bag of empties in your closed trunk.

Started with the setlist game...you get many more points if you pick the correct song in the correct order, called a "spot". So if Last Stop is played 10th and it hits, you called it The Last SPOT.
