It looks like sections 12-14 rows A through F or G are GA, with H+ being seats.

So is it going to be a pit like other Blossom shows? Because the first few rows are always pit, and at shows like DMB, they just put in removable plastic chairs. I'm not sure how I feel about this! I have gone by myself the last 2 years and been in the first 4 rows both times, so I think I have a good chance at getting what might be a pit ticket going solo again. But then again I am very short so pits dont work well for me.

What sort of crowd would you expect? I've heard lots of stories about drunken high school kids at US shows but we don't seem to get that in Toronto. We'd like to bring our kids(9+6) on a DMB road trip and this look like a good venue.

I'm thinking about venturing to Blossom, it's just over a 3 hour car ride, so a Friday works great. What do you guys thing about the GA seating? We don't have it in Clarkston. Thanks!

There are two different crowds at Blossom - the crowd on the lawn (typically drunk teenagers and early 20-somethings, a lot of illegal activity going on) and the crowd in the pavilion. The crowd in the pavilion is much more kid friendly than the lawn.

I would absolutely suggest road tripping to Blossom for the show! I've worked there in the past as an usher and go to numerous shows there every year. The staff is well trained and keeps everything in line. They will let you have your fun but if you see something you don't like and alert one of them, they will take care of it immediately.

The venue itself is gorgeous. It is surrounded by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Here are links to a few good pictures:

I think a lot of people are making too much of an uproar about the GA seating. For Projekt Revolution at Blossom in 2007, they took down the first 10 rows for GA. There were hundreds of good seats still in the pavilion and I didn't hear anyone complain. Linkin Park put on a hell of a show that night! :thumbsup

Check out the pictures from above. I've been going to Blossom to see shows since 2005 and have loved every minute of it. The view from the lawn is much better than other venues I've been to (Riverbend, Star Lake etc.) but sitting in the pavilion is great. I'd like to sit in the pavilion for DMB but we usually go with a group of 10+ and it's easier for everyone to get lawn tickets.

It looks like a beautiful venue. We were on the upper lawns in To last year and we had no problems but I'll look at the pavillion seats here.

The upper lawn typically isn't as bad as the middle to lower lawn, I just wanted to precaution you because the crowd out there can be a lot to handle sometimes. A couple of years ago a girl squatted and peed literally right beside me. I've seen people have entire beers spilled on them by someone so drunk they didn't even realize it was happening. Last year the lawn was a muddy mess for dmb and I ended up going down hard a couple of times. :lol Still had a blast though.

Unfortunately, things like this happen on the lawn a lot. That is why so many people refuse to go to a show if they're not in the pavilion.

EDIT: I have also had numerous good experiences on the lawn - I would never try to discourage someone from going to a show, I just wanted to share my experiences!

Any good places to camp near the venue?

There is nothing within walking distance, but these are the two closest places as far as I know:

Good's Woods Campground
4301 Stow Road
Stow, OH 44224
(330) 738-6792

Tamsin Park
5000 Akron-Cleveland Rd
Peninsula, Ohio 44264

I'm not 100% sure but I'd think the campground in Stow would be closer than Peninsula.

I second the above comments. I've been going to Blossom for the past 3 years (this year makes 4!) for DMB, have been in both lawn and pavillion, and drive 4 hrs from Buffalo every year. The venue itself is beautiful- in the middle of a national park, and the enormous wood ceiling of the pavillion has to be seen to be believed. Reserved parking gets you right next to the entrance, but if you have regular parking, be prepared for a hike from the lot to the venue. Get there early, or lines will be backed up onto the highway. One great thing about Blossom is the front of the lawn lawn gets you closer to the stage than almost all other venues I've been at, however, it always seems to be raining every time DMB is there...

Lawn and pavillion are definitely different worlds. Teens and pot aplenty in the lawn, and more of a party atmosphere. It was rainy when I went in 07, and people made a mudslide in the middle of the lawn. Upper lawn is less dense and therefore more easy going. Long lines for bathrooms. In contrast, the pavillion is a bit more reserved, but is filled with people with a more genuine love for DMB (which I guess is true at any venue). Ushers are strict- my g/f almost got kicked out last year for getting caught smoking cigarettes twice in the pavillion. WH members will get good seats- she's been in since 08 and our seats were in the middle of the 200s. Restrooms and food aplenty.

Can't you camp in the park itself? I've never looked into it.

All in all, a great place to see DMB. Can't wait for this year!

Good point about parking. I forgot to even mention it! Paying for the reserved parking is definitely worth it. The past few years we haven't even attempted to get in line to get out of the lots until a solid hour and a half to two hours after the show. We get back to our cars and keep tailgating. It's better than sitting in traffic knowing you aren't going to make it anywhere!

I went to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park's web site and found the following about camping there:

Stanford House Primitive Campsites
Open June 1 through October 31
6093 Stanford Road, Peninsula, OH 44264 (81° 33.414' W) (41° 16.233' N).

Five primitive campsites are available for distance hikers and bicyclists using the Towpath and Buckeye Trails. Drive-up use is not permitted. There is a maximum of two tents and six people per site. Water and chemical toilets are available. Camping is by reservation only. Each campsite is $15.00/day. Reservations must be made at least three days in advance by contacting the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association Reservation Coordinator's Office at (330) 657-2909, ext. 119, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Walk-up campers can reserve unoccupied sites by visiting the Trail Mix store between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekends only. For more details visit www.cvnpa.org.

-----

They also have a downloadable PDF listing the nearest camp sites. I have attached it to this post.

Hope this helps those of you looking to camp!

Do I understand correctly that it takes 1+ hours to get out even with the reserved parking? We left before the encore last year to avoid having to walk out with a huge crowd with the kids, but driving out from the Molson Amphitheatre is a breeze. Would it be a reasonable drive down from Cleveland if we stayed there? I'm thinking R&R HOF on the saturday, 5 Guys for lunch and outlet shopping in Erie(gotta throw Mrs BBQ a bone)

Those in reserved parking definitely get out quicker. They are the first to their cars and are therefore the first on the road on their way out of the lots. Most people have to park far from the venue - in 2006 we had to park literally right inside the parking gates. I'd say it's a solid 1/2 to 3/4 mile we had to walk to get to the entrance of the amphitheater

Yes, it is reasonable to drive down from Cleveland. Parking gets backed up very quickly - I'd still get to there early even with reserved parking. For Clapton in 2008 we got stuck in traffic for 2+ hours. Completely missed Robert Randolph opening and Clapton's first 2 songs. Not cool.

On a sidenote, One of my favorite parts about Blossom is that there is only one road that goes from behind the amphitheater to Steels Corners Road, so the band's buses drive past all of the fans walking back to their cars. Carter usually sits right beside the driver and waves at people. I got a thumbs up from him in 07! :thumbsup

gotta do the shopping stop in erie, for sure. no sales tax on clothing :D we <3 out of town shoppers and they seem to love our mall! :)

it can take a long time to get out of there, yes. use the back entrance though and it should cut down on the amount of time it takes for you to get out of the lots after the show... but you also have to remember that any venue can be ridiculous to get out of no matter where you are, because 20,000 or so people are all trying to leave the same place at the same time through the same exit(s).

Blossom is my favorite venue right behind Star Lake. Very excited to make the trip again this year. Not too excited about it being on a Friday, I only work Sat & Sun, so Friday shows suck for that reason, but whatever. We always stay at the Extended Stay in Copley, nice area, 10 minute drive to venue, no traffic. Will be staying there again this year.

hey so i dont know too much about getting tickets. ive only been to two shows and both times sat in the lawn. with the talk about the ga seeting im trying to decide if i should go for that. does anyone know how much the ga is going to cost? also if i dont arrive very early do you think it will even be worth it or is it already gonna be packed. im not in a position to purchase a warehouse membership, so i want to take advantage of the oppourtunity to see dmb up close bc this could be one of the only chances i have. so any information on this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Tickets go on sale 2/26 through LN/TM. From what the seating chart looks like, the GA Pit seems to be rows A-F/G in sections 12/13/14.

GA Pit tix through the Warehouse are $70/ticket. I would imagine LN/TM would sell for the same price. I have not been to a GA Pit show, so there is no telling how many people they will try to cram in that area.

Good luck getting GA Pit... I would imagine multiple ticket broker sites will have plenty up for sale minutes after LN/TM opens on the 26th.

I've tailgated at Blossom many time before and they do heavily regulate the lots. If you are smart, you should have no problems. For example, never drink from a can or bottle. Always put whatever you are drinking in a plastic cup. If you look like you are under 21, you will get carded by police. You could be 40 but if you look young, they will card you. My friends and I get carded every time we tailgate at Blossom and we're in our mid-twenties.

There are usually a few taxi's lined up at the front gates after the show. No bus routes as far as I know. I've called a taxi ahead of time and arranged for them to pick us up at the gates. They were pretty reliable. :thumbsup

I thought I would throw this out there...there are 6 of us going to Blossom this year, we go every year. This year we wanted to do something different and get a party bus. Are there any ants on here who do this and have room for 6 more people? Or are there any ants on here going to Blossom, that live in the western suburbs of Cleveland, who would want to go in on a party bus and split the cost? I have some names of local companies around here that have the buses.

Hey all! We were at Blossom in 08 and are coming back this year since it's a Friday show. Just can't do those mid-week shows anymore. Soooo looking forward to being back. Love this venue. Last time we were there we met up at a bar before the show and went in around 3 or 3:30 as I recall. We parked right up close in the paved lots and had a total blast. So are there any details yet on were we can all meet up, tailgate plans, etc.? Please let us know!!!

Peace,

Looks like the first 6 rows of seats are taken out, so if they don't oversell the pit, probably right around 300 people.

This is a challenge to all Warehouse Members and DMB nation going to the Blossom show this year. Im sure you guys have played between your friends but this is for real now. We will go back and forth naming DMB,D&T,Dave Matthews solo songs, or DMB covers ETC. Me and my pals have been doing this for a while now and we need some competition because we are getting bored playing this game between ourselves. So if you want to play this game with us at Blossom email me at patscullin@cox.net Maybe we can really get something going here. The goal is to make it a national phenomenon among DMB nation. We can get some rules going at the tailgate. The only rule you really need is the time limit rule, but that is the patience of your friends or opponents. We can do partners, solo, whatever you guys want. I would really like to get this started. We (me and my pals) are ready to put the belt on the line for a title fight. EMAIL ME. It will be a lot of fun.

So because I live right outside of Cleveland I have never stayed at a hotel near Blossom. But I do know that there are not too many hotels that close to Blossom because it is pretty much in a park system.
I did look up some hotels near Blossom for you:
Staybridge Suites, Akron/Stow 2.82 miles
Courtyard by Marriott Akron/Stow 4.12 miles
Hampton Inn Stow 4.48 miles
Doubletree Akron/Fairlawn 5.04 miles
Hilton Akron/Fairlawn 5.05 miles
Comfort Inn Boston Hills 5.39 miles

Hope this helps, didn't want to give Cleveland a bad image by not helping you :banned, the Blossom threads are never very busy compared to other venues, BUT Blossom is still my favorite venue, we always get a great setlist and the crowd is great in the pavilion.

No problem, Cleveland always gets a bad wrap regardless. But Blossom is a great venue, we do usually get good setlists. Parking is a #@$% and the local police are pretty strict. Tailgating is not as infamous as most venues but if you keep your cool and use the Solo cups you should be OK.
This year we have splurged and are getting a limo for the 8 of us. That means we'll be able to park in the paved lot and I've heard that tailgating there is much better than on the grass.
Have a great time at Blossom!

Blossom is a great venue!!

"hull of a wooden ship" ;)

sittin pavilion I hope? the acoustics at Blossom are not to be missed! being built for the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra as their "summer home" away from Severance Hall it amplifies sound without needing mics... so when ya do at the mics it's an explosion of beauty.

sec 44 is a bleacher section, correct??

so you're either more straight on but farther back and on a raised bleacher near the edge of the roof, or in a seat but closer off to the side where seeing Boyd and Tim will be more difficult.

i dunno. i saw Clapton from sec 14 and just 2 seats from the outside, and i still had a blast.

soundwise, you'll probably want sec 44, because you'll have the acoustics at your benefit... everything come towards you... whereas in 26 you'll have the one stack and lots of sound going right out the side...

so in conclusion:

soundwise, sec 44 - acoustics
view-wise, sec 44 - full view
seat-wise, sec 26 - seat back

however, you'll be standing/dancing the whole time, in which case the "seat-wise" category is eliminated, thus leaving you with sec 44 as my opinion for better spot for a show.

hope this helps. i apologize for the overanalyzing... i've been up all night and the adderall has completely taken over my soul.

I believe the soundboard is right in the middle of the pavilion by the 30's. Can't remember which section it is by, but I think our best seats were right by the soundboard, obviously because of the sound. After looking at a seating chart the soundboard may be in front of section 35.
In my opinion almost any seat in the pavilion is a good one. It is not that big and the sound definitely makes up if you do have a blocked view, plus there are screens on either side of the stage.

never sat in 32, but any place i have sat in the pavilion has been good.

the lawn has that extra glob of space off to the side where you can't really see anything. And livenation will sell lawn seats to fill that up. so yeah, a true "sellout" won't happen.

really joseph??? "sellout" according to whom?? because their box office sells tickets for shows even if ticketbastard/livenation doesn't. which is why they say they "never sell out"

but rock on!

in fact, i remember after the 2004 DMB concert the review mentioned "Dave Matthews Band took the stage in front of a sellout crowd" even though it wasn't even close

deshong1485
05-25-2010, 01:04 PM
Blossom has sold out a few times over the years. I worked there for a few summers when I went to Akron U. The venue will sell any where from 23K-30K tickets depending on the band. Both Nickelback and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "sold out" with 30K tickets while No Doubt "sold out" with 23K-25K tickets. Just depends on how many tickets are being offered for sale. I don't think it makes much sense to sell less tickets to one concert than another, but then again I know nothing about ticket sales/promotions/etc.

Sorry, didn't intend to. Just make sure to get there early and get close to the front. I don't think there are any speakers in the lawn at all, so all the sound has to come from the pavilion. The back of the lawn is just plain awful. However, like someone else said, inside the pavilion is freaking LOUD! Sometimes overpowering but a great time.

Hey all! I collect posters from all my concerts. I'm a bit nervous for blossom though because I will be in the pit. I don't want to have it down there and carry it all night... (the pit will be crazy enough as it is!) I'm afraid if I wait until after the show they might be sold out, or may have run out of tubes. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Is it safe to wait until after the show to buy the poster, or is it safer to get them before the show? Obviously this is my first year where I actually plan to buy one, and therefore care about these details...
Listen to Groton's post he knows a lot about posters, and yes BEFORE the show ALWAYS, NEVER wait till after the show or you'll be sorry....the method to carry your poster tube around at the show is to bring in your bag that you put your lawn chair in and then you will not have to carry the tube around and it should be semi-rainproof (bring a plastic bag inside the chair bag to ensure 100% waterproof to be on the safe side)

Usually (key word), you can still pick up the poster from Blossom after the fact through the Warehouse. However, its not a guarantee.

I like that idea! I probably have 50-60 stubs and press passes and wrist bands etc that I plan on doing something sweet with one of these days. I'd like to get a shadow box coffee table to display them in but the only one I've found that I liked was made by ikea and out of my price range. I've also thought about putting them in a large frame once I get enough. It seems to change every time I think about it which is why they're still in a box!

A binder is not the most attractive thing but it is small and convenient. I can take it places with me too. I have a couple of wristbands in there from Lollapalooza but those are a little harder to glue to a piece of computer paper.

yes. but since the venue is in a national forest, you have to be a little more discreet about it than other places. put your beverage in a plastic cup... no open flames... and if you look like you're 15 and calling attention to yourself, they'll come give you a ticket/arrest you.

It's a beautiful venue. The amphitheater itself is awesome. The walk to the venue from the lots can be a hike depending on when you get there, but you're surrounded by the Cuyahoga Valley National Forest so it's pretty cool.

EDIT: I've heard of numerous people complaining about the sound on the lawn, but I've been on the hill more times than I can count and I've never experienced a bad sounding show.
