So, as everyone knows, this summer tour is going to kick ass, and it will doubly so for me because for the first time in over 10 years, DMB is returning to the treasure valley. Lets give them a show they wont forget and make idaho an ANNUAL stop on the tour.

Cmon gorge fans! make the trip to Boise to see them the week before! It'll be worth your time, Boise is a nice area. Not to mention, this show is on a College campus (the Taco Bell Arena is formerly known as the Boise State Pavilion) this is the bronco's reward for a 14-0 season- DAVE MATTHEWS BAND is stopping by to personally congratulate them (and wish them luck for the following weekend against UV rival VA Tech)

Doofie27

Also, FREE show in Utah! I, for one, shall not pass up such an opportunity.

This is a no brainer for me...I'll be there :thumbsup Kind of like an appetizer for the Gorge weekend!

well it totally is, considering it happens like 3 days before the gorge. So it's going to get me PUMPED for the trip later in the week.
Guys, expect this to be a darkhorse of a show. No one will expect it to be anything but just another tour stop, but i see DMB pulling out one hell of a one nighter due to the whole "haven't been here in over a decade" thing.

I am down for Boise! I have mixed feelings about the UT show because the "free" part will bring a less than desirable crowd.

just got the official email too, we are the only stop on the tour that doesnt have an opener announced, hahaha.

Hopefully they will just get Ben Harper and R7 to join them 3 days earlier.

gorgefan36
01-26-2010, 05:11 PM
I'll be going to Boise, and probably the USANA show.. can't argue with free! Ben Harper & R7 would be fantastic to see too, hopefully they open in Boise too!

Question - when does Boise State start? Not sure if they're not semesters or quarters...

Doofie27
01-26-2010, 06:42 PM
semesters, and if its like last year, it will be exactly one week prior to this show.

gorgefan36
01-26-2010, 06:59 PM
K, that's what I thought. It wouldn't seem right playing in a town with a big university when the students aren't in session!

NateBOI

And BSU will probably be playing VT on Labor Day... not to spoil Gorge plans... I just want to say thank God they're coming back!

Is Taco Bell arena same as Boise State University Pavilion that DMB has played previously?

EDIT: According to wikipedia it is.

Yes, same venue as before, then again, it's been 12 years since I've seen them in Boise. SO excited about this ...

NateBOI
01-27-2010, 12:11 AM
All us Boiseans need to show our DMB love and get together pre-concert. I'd like to put together an Ants party, maybe the Stonehouse?

Doofie27
01-27-2010, 02:50 AM
that would be awesome. I'm so fucking glad to have our own thread this year. I love the gorge thread, but this is just pure bonus for me. Dave could go onstage and literally fart into the mic for two hours and i would be ecstatic because he decided to come to Boise to do it.
(and also, i'm sure that would warrant several tour firsts according to DMBalmanac, lol)

I'm in, nice little warm up for the gorge. :D

gorgefan36
01-27-2010, 01:26 PM
So is everyone going to go GA and hit the floor, or getting seats? I'm thinking I'll just go for the cheap seats, save the energiezz for the Gorge. (Not that I won't be up and dancing around anyways, but it will be nice to have my spot already there, instead of trying to get a good spot on the floor)

Doofie27
01-27-2010, 04:03 PM
since theres no alcohol in said establishment, I'm going to have to go with floor. Get there early and get a spot up close, and maybe dave can shake some sweat off on me or something. haha.

speaking of said arena, i can see it from my current location. Everytime i walk past it now (daily) i think about how in 7 months DMB will be bringing down the house.

I am super excited for this. Yay fellow Idahoans!

Doofie27
01-27-2010, 11:55 PM
I would be more than happy to get some sort of Ants Tailgate going on for this. Not to mention, since the gorge is later in the week, we could set up a caravan going up. I've always wanted to do that, but i've had to grow my own flock to do it, hahah.

NateBOI
01-28-2010, 12:58 AM
I don't think I like the GA floor idea... Taco Bell could have beer, they've been selling it for non school events.

Doofie27
01-28-2010, 01:12 PM
ahh i wasnt aware of that nate, i just assumed since they like to not serve alcohol for the football games and such. Well, let the inebriation commence!

NateBOI
01-28-2010, 01:47 PM
Yeah, they've been more loose during non-school events. Could be one reason why DMB is coming back. Let's hope it's an annual event!

Doofie27
01-28-2010, 05:45 PM
no joke man, it could very easily be a stop between ut ah and the gorge.

gorgefan36
01-28-2010, 08:08 PM
Just put in my WH requests for the $65 tier seating.. hoping to get lower level!

Doofie27
01-29-2010, 11:59 AM
as did I. I'm almost 100% that we will get floor seats man- how many warehouse members do you think bought tickets to the boise show? haha, i can guarantee you it wont even be enough to fill half of the floor. (the WH members that is)

gorgefan36
01-29-2010, 12:15 PM
Oh, I didn't get GA, I went for the actual seats in the lower rim of the bowl. How big is the Taco Bell Arena? I haven't been.. I'm sure it will be a pretty typical indoor setup, I was just curious how big the arena was.

Doofie27
01-29-2010, 05:10 PM
the arena isnt that big, so if you manage to snag seats in the bottom rows you will still be about 100ft back from the stage. This is what i'm assuming, I'm not sure how they will have it set up when they play, but obviously they wont have the entire arena being utilized (you dont seat people behindthe band) the typical seating capacity for Taco Bell Arena is like 13k, id say this show will have about 10k people with the GA floor.

shamrox317
01-30-2010, 01:52 AM
Taco Bell arena is so small, that I really don't think that there is a bad seat in the house! We saw Michael Buble there a few years ago for my wifes birthday, 2nd row. It was incredible, but we walked up into the upper bowl, and the seats up there were still great.

Doofie27
01-30-2010, 04:57 AM
yeah, there isnt a seat in the house that is the equivalent distance as the lawn is at the gorge, if that gives you an idea.

Doofie27
02-01-2010, 03:53 PM
well, we're under 7 months now. 6 months 27 days to go.

Doofie27
02-02-2010, 02:46 PM
damn, itd be awesome if i wasnt the only one in here, haha.

NateBOI
02-03-2010, 12:59 AM
I'm here.... need to get my Warehouse request in soon though... still can't decide on GA floor or regular floor. The GA floor idea is just stupid in my opinion. I know people stand up and all but there will be chaos.

NateBOI
02-03-2010, 01:15 AM
Here's another thought, how many people would buy a Boise DMB shirt if we could come up with a design? Unique to Boise?

Petemelons

The EndZone should be the pre funk spot. Killer bar that is next to the stadium. Should be great weather.

Anyone going to try for the front?

I've done it before few times. It is cool, but it's not for the faint-hearted. There is a lot of pushing and telling people they can't get in front of you. My wife and I and two friends got front center at Vanderbilt. I loved it, but my wife was pretty miserable after the opener finished. I got front center at Memphis and a lot of people had to be carried out because of getting dehydrated and sick. You can't go get drinks or pee after you get your spot and expect to get back...it might happen, but probably not.

Overall, it is fun, but it is a long, long day. I'm debating because I've done it before, but I'm not sure. Either way, if you get WH GA and show up at a reasonable time, you should get stellar seats...just not the front row.

From my understanding there will be no seats on the floor because it is a stadium show. I could be wrong. If there are no seats, there will be craziness.

If you get WH GA tickets for the floor and even show up a couple hours before the show you will get pretty close. The band has said that unless there is a problem with sound check, WH members will go first. This has proved true at all 3 GA shows I've been to. You should see the look on people's faces in the non-WH line who have been there for hours and watch WH members file in who just walked up...it kind of sucks for them.

gorgefan36
02-18-2010, 09:05 PM
Any WH'ers have pending charges yet? I have them pending for my Gorge requests, but nothing for SLC or Boise yet... I put in for lower-level seats, I won't be able to get down to Boise in time to wait in line to get a good spot on the floor.

I didn't realize they had a WH line for GA, that's pretty cool!

NateBOI
02-18-2010, 11:55 PM
Mine says processing. That's pretty cool if WH has a separate line. I just can't imagine too much craziness here though. Maybe we can go in and hold our spots by sitting?

NateBOI

I cant wait for this show, Dave finally comes back to Boise, not that I wouldn't ever miss the Gorge but this really is a treat!

As an aside, I've been to shows in TB arena and they have sold alcohol previously although it cuts off pretty early.

FriendsofDave
02-22-2010, 05:01 AM
I'm still waiting for the WH tickets to process through for the GA floor, ( I also put in for SLC and Gorge GA tix, pretty hefty bill lol), should be any day now, can't wqait to see my tickets for the summer, then thursday I fly to Amsterdam for the Antwerp and Amsterdam shows, kickin off a great '10.....also i tlooks like I will be seeing Alberta Cross 6 times this year with the boys lol, god thing they rock too!

Once you get in the venue you won't be able to sit down if you are anywhere near the front. Unless you are the front row and can sit against the fence. Otherwise you'll be standing.

jenzzjetII
02-22-2010, 11:22 AM
And be sure to regulate your drinking.... once you're in you really won't be able to get out to the bathroom etc.. We were second row for Outside Lands and once the Black Eyed Peas were on there was no going back or out! I think it's a great way to get super close for face value, but as stated earlier it's not for the faint of heart.

Doofie27
02-22-2010, 03:31 PM
I think the most important thing to remember is that although it is a festival seating arrangement, its the dave matthews band. There will be our fair share of drunk college kids there (fuck its literally 100 feet away from the largest Dorm complex on campus) but it wont be like a mosh pit. I'm sure it will be crammed but I am planning on being in the first 5 rows so i can get hit with sweat from the band. hahaha.

jenzzjetII
02-22-2010, 04:33 PM
LOL... at OSL we were told by the people behind us that, "you better watch out because we're rushing the stage!". We were all, ummm, yeah this is DMB. The "rush" never happened, but they were pretty shitty and kicked garbage on my friends. The upside was that we got to feel the bands sweat! And the see in detail the train wreck that was Fergy and the other black eyed pea! Oh yeah, and Robert Randolph tear down the house.

npm352
02-22-2010, 04:39 PM
It'll be a blast for sure. If you get WH floor or even regular floor and are willing to wait for a little while you can get close. This is a great opportunity. I freaking love GA shows. But, there will be BS to deal with. Just hold your ground and those scumbags will look for other people to cut in front of. I predict drunk college punks because it is on a campus, but since I've lived in Idaho I have found that overall people here are the nicest people on earth. That's why I love living here.

Doofie27
02-22-2010, 07:06 PM
yeah people are pretty nice here, but you gotta remember that the students at BSU are largely NOT from Idaho, haha. The only thing I worry about is since its 1. on campus and 2. in idaho......... what about all of the stoners? hows THAT going to work there? lol.

NateBOI
02-22-2010, 11:09 PM
I'm a native of Boise and went to BSU so I'm familiar with it all... I've just grown out of it. Where's the stoners? Probably not at BSU.

So I'm guessing with the GA set up, forget the pre-party and do a post party. That sucks but oh well.

Doofie27
02-23-2010, 01:58 AM
You'd be surprised, I've only been attending for this year and there are a ton of "that" crowd around. You're right, unless theres a warehouse entry line to go first (i've heard they do this with stadium shows) the tailgating isnt going to pan out well for those of us trying to get in close to the front.

I'm sure there will be plenty of drunk and stoned college kids. Most won't be WH members in the WH line. And almost all of them won't be there early enough to get a better spot than the diehards who are in line for hours. They may think that they can just jump in front of people, but in 3 GA shows I've seen people get nasty with clowns who try that. I've been one of those people. When you are in line, you know who has been there a while and who just moseyed on in. Point is, if you are a WH floor ticket holder and get in line early, you will get a good spot. They may eventually try to push by but if they get through then its your fault for letting them. If you get the rail and hold onto the rail no one will get in front of you.

You can either tailgate OR try to get close to the front, not both.

If you aren't in line and try to cut in later after tailgating you'll end up yelled at or beat up. That's what I've seen.

haha, I got my permanent charges for SLC and Boise, GA Floor through warehouse. awesomesauce. I wonder what I ended up with for SLC...

As far as tailgating goes, it'll be interesting seeing as its on a Tuesday and I'll most likely have class or work at somepoint during that day. If I don't, I'm sure there will be crazies out there taillgating midday.. haha. I might just be one of them!

Nate, is your floor ticket a WH or regular GA floor?

I imagine it will fill up being a smaller venue. Do you kow how many it will fit?

NateBOI

My tickets are Warehouse. Taco Bell Arena holds about 12,000 so take away some for not being in the round/basketball. Ticket sales are going pretty good from my guesstimate.

Good thing you have WH tix.

I went to the show at JPJ Arena in Charlottesville last spring, which was on the UVA campus, so I'm guessing the setup will look about the same. It was definitely full, but it was also the band's home town... I'm sure Boise will sell out!

Do that, and I can almost guarantee you will see Boise thrown in as a stop between SLC and the Gorge each year.

Most obscure venue in 2003 Dave and Tim tour: Boone, NC.

Arguably the BEST Dave and Tim show ever played. Ever.

I keep checking in and seeing the same thing. I don't mind if it's just us four and the band. If that's the case, let's have the concert at my house!

Someday they'll have to put the west coast at the beginning of the tour instead of the end. It makes for a LONG summer. Maybe we'll have to do something as a group earlier to get it out of our system.

So what's your guys' thoughts on a shirt design? I'm thinking a BSU jersey w/41 and DMB on the back would be cool too but BSU's jerseys just don't do it for me. They change too often.

Doofie27
03-17-2010, 03:22 AM

Just be careful with what you put on the shirts, especially if you plan to be up front. The group I camp with at the Gorge has had an incident with the Band's legal team due to copyright infringement. In fact, the lawyers made two of our group take them back to our campground (after they had pulled the two guys off the lawn and interrogated them for about an hour) and confiscated all of the shirts. Of course, we were stupid and there were like 30 of us wearing the shirts so we were pretty obvious. Our shirts had a small fire dancer on the left chest that got us in trouble.

So what's your guys' thoughts on a shirt design? I'm thinking a BSU jersey w/41 and DMB on the back would be cool too but BSU's jerseys just don't do it for me. They change too often.

I think that we'll have a good shot at the front. I'll be off that day and will be in line as soon as I arrive from Pocatello. With WH early admission we are golden.

It will be a long summer. Good thing is that hopefully they will have pulled out more tunes for the tour. Bad news is Dave will likely sound like a frog.

Def. be careful on teh shirts like Jen said...I would hate to be uplled from the front row especially after i wait in line all day.

Pumped for the show. Hope to meet you all...all three or four of you. :)

Jen, I remember the incident at the Gorge with the shirts. I think I got one but didn't wear it that night. I stayed at Getty's Cove from 2002-2007. This will be my 3rd year away from the Gorge. Saw D+T in Seattle, and last year went to Vegas. The Gorge just can't be the same without Getty's being open.

jenzzjetII
03-18-2010, 02:08 PM
Yup, that was us! I miss Gettys, but I miss the Gorge more. I am heading up with a group of the same people this year, but we're staying premier at the venue. Do you remember the Gorilla? or Kitch the Canadian? Bill and Stacey with the booby barge? Those are my peeps. I think we're going to do a day trip to the bridge for some jumping for old times sake.

We were in Vegas too. What great shows! I am hoping this year will be as good.

Sounds like you stayed in Compton! :eek

Here's my first encounter at Getty's. Not at all anything like yours but it's my first Getty's story. Much more pleasant. In fact, for camping in the front area (before the store and boat ramp) I think 2002 - 2007 "were the better days." I remember hearing in 2006/2007 the dullness of conversations beginning to be had about not coming back the next year.

It started in 2002 though for me. After having gone in 2000 to the Gorge, from Seattle and back, and in 2001 to Vegas, I had to get back to the Gorge and begin an annual attendence of DMB shows. So without knowing anyone, I found some people on Yahoo (Aaron, AJ, Rob, Corrie, Shasta, and others) and made it in time to get checked in to Getty's, lay my stuff out, and then head out to the show. So I rode with Aaron, AJ, and some others from our camp... I think 1 or 2 more than the number of seat belts we had because, we got to the turn off and all the :babe 's were under the over-pass waiting to pray on whoever they could get. We were pulled over. Aaron, being from Canada had cigarettes, that are in packages unlike ours so obviously the :babe 's were suspicious of that. Then because we had 1 or 2 more than the number of seat belts, they got tickets for no seat belt, and so did a few of the others (including me). I sat high on the lawn with AJ for that show. Unfortunately I left early and didn't see the 3rd show with Dreaming Tree and Halloween. :BANG I think that was the last time I went and didn't stay for all the shows at the Gorge.

So there began my Gorge run and afterwards, with the exception of one year, I played host to others.

While I loved all the day activities (bridge, people watching, lounging, drinking, committee meetings) nights were better with some sleep. But all in all, those trips were always a complete relaxation, a time to forget about home/work, and were surrounded with people who share the same passion I do for the band.

So anyway. Hopefully we can recreate some of that comraderie when they come to Boise. Too bad we don't have as good a venue as many other stops on the tour. We'll take it though.

jenzzjetII
03-22-2010, 12:08 PM
Haha.. ya, that link I posted wasn't written by me. I found it while searching to see if Gettys was possibly going to be open this year. My first thought was, "They must have been in Compton".

My first year at Getty's was the year AJ and Aaron got married. Did you know that they're back in Canadia?

NateBOI
03-23-2010, 12:13 AM
Yeah, I knew. They're on my FB. Speaking of AJ and Aaron, about 2 months ago I was at someone's house watchin a reply of RR&FB show from the NHL festivities in Dallas (I think) and saw AJ and Aaron in the front row. I had to rewind it! Sure enough, it was them!

To keep this thread going and us all engaged...

Post one song you want to hear at the show in Boise. By the time they're here, it'll have been 12 years so go with anything, why not? Call it a favorite, call it rare, call it a staple in the shows, call it epic, you call it. Since there's not many of us, let's start one by one and then progress in to a 'dream setlist' or something. We've got lots of time until the show. Why not dream since it's been so long.

Maybe I'll jump ahead to a setlist opener... but one song to start.

I have two questions:

1. What do you call a resident of Boise? i.e. people that live up here in Spokane are called Spokanites, residents of Portland are Portlanders. I've never heard a Boise nickname though.

2. Still haven't booked a room for the 31st.. any suggestions? I'm not sure what's nearby.

I agree. I'm taking the day off so I'll probably be at Taco Bell Arena way early. Maybe even the park (tailgate style.) I didn't buy a parking permit (didn't think I/concert goers would need one) but I see the closer ones are already sold out. Was also thinking maybe a local gathering the weekend before or something.

Did you ever find a place to stay? There are a few good places downtown (where the band will probably stay) or there's one a few blocks from Taco Bell Arena.

So with the announcement of no tour in 2011, does anyone think that indicates why they decided to come back to Boise after so long?

Doofie27
05-19-2010, 03:09 AM
i'm quite certain that the decision to come back to boise was made long before the decision not to tour in 2011. The band had been talking about finding new places out west (or old ones) to revisit in 2010- low and behold, Boise was a logical stop before the Gorge. Hallelujah! I am determined to be Front row center for this one. Thank you WH early admission. Hopefully i'll score a pit ticket for friday night at the gorge.

Agreed. Did anyone buy a parking lot pass? I didn't because I didn't expect such a crazy notion. I still think tailgating would be fun. I would guess that alcohol will be watched closer since it's not BSU game day... not that I plan on getting trashed because I don't want to lose my Warehouse spot or waste time in the John.

So I've been contemplating the grass between University and the parking lot, grass between the parking lot and the mirrored building, or a little bit further in Julia Davis.

Might anyone want to get together Sat. night the 28th?

And I'm still up in the air about the Gorge. :BANG

Boise will be a refreshing return to normalcy after all that time in UT.

I saw some $10 parking passes are available for the east parking lot, but parking doesn't open until 5pm. Would have been a good idea if I can park there all day. :( So... a tailgate spot hasn't been decided on yet and food/drinks might be minimal. Thoughts just keep floating in my head...

I haven't searched the boards real hard but what's going to be a good time to line up for the Warehouse entrance? That will probably play in to wrapping up the tailgate fun. Oh, on another note to tailgating, if we were to do it in the park, I was reminded of their 2 hour parking limit since students park there a lot.

...So much to say, so much to say, so much to say...

I was also at the USANA show, and whereas there was a lot of BW played, i was completely pleased with it. The Crush was amazing (they usually always are), the Jimi was fun, the debut of Write A Song, my first ever Ants in 5 DMB concerts since 98, and a mind blowing Two Step ... no amount of BW can kill that .......

Hey Boiseans, quick question for ya! I'm not too familiar with the downtown area.. would walking from the arena over to Neurolux be feasible? I looked it up online, and it's about a mile and a half. I can walk that far, just not sure if it's a good idea at 11ish at night.

Thanks! :)

buses parked downtown you say? i want to go hang around downtown now, this city is so small i imagine that it wouldn't be hard to "accidentally" run into some of the band members. considering theres only a handful of hotels nice enough that they would probably be staying at, :lol

.... so where downtown? rofl.

Haha, I noticed that too. They were loading stuff into a hotel van when I drove by but couldn't catch the name on the side. I'm not one to stalk the band but I might have to spend a little extra time wandering around downtown tonight. So doors open for the general public at 6 pm tomorrow? I was thinking of trying to get to the arena by about 5 pm because I figure they'll let Warehouse members in about a half hour early. That should be good, right?

So here is what a bunch of friends of mine and I are doing before the show: We plan to meet up at the Front Door around 12:30ish. There is a chance I wont be able to make it until 2:00, but I have been assured that there will be at least four people before 1:00.

I called the Boise Taco Bell Arena staff today. Actually got a hold of some higher ups, and was told the details of how the early admission works. It will be at gate/lobby #4 which is the north west entrance. This entrance is also the closest from Julia Davis park (we plan to walk from The Front Door through the park). If you are tailgating you want to go to the right (from the parking lot) and back around to the entrance near the tennis court.

The main gate opens at 6:00, but the warehouse ticket entrance will be opening at 5:45pm.

Hope to see a bunch of you at The Front Door tomorrow (6th and Main right below The Reef, for those who don't want to Google it). Cheers,

Will

Holy shit, I'm so excited for this show right now. Seeing the recent set lists made me go from 6 to Midnight, if ya know what I mean. I plan on skipping most of my classes tomorrow, I'll be at gate 4 at around 3 I'm thinking. Holy shit ...... 24 hours!!!!!

ill be at the gate at 2-3pm ish, depending on how i plan to get inebriated. I don't know if tailgating will be allowed on campus considering its WHILE school is in session, but I'll have a few tricks up my sleeve.

DMB was last in Boise in 1998 and before that in 1996. I missed them in 98 as I was in FL at the time.

Will, I think I'll head over to the Front door too around 12:30 if that's when others will be going. It'll be nice to hang with some Ants from Boise.

I was originally going to tailgate but school will be in session, parking won't open until 5pm and I'm sure campus security will be tight.

With WH entrance, yeah, I'm thinking it will be 5:30 or 5:45 but how are they going to mention that to all of us. And are there really going to be non-WH people with GA in line THAT early?

Fonz posted some pics via Twitter yesterday. Sounds like they might have taken a ride to McCall. I didn't see any trailors downtown yesterday with the buses for motorcycles. I bet they rented them or something. I didn't stop :BANG but I saw them or crew getting mountain bikes ready yesterday at about noon for a ride.

Lol. Well at least my spot in line practically guarantees me a spot on the rail. Woot for that. Somebody bring me some hard liquor- I won't have any time to get beer inside once the gate opens. Also considering ordering a damn pizza, I'm hungry.

Show time is 7 MST. Opener will start around then. DMB won't come on until 8:15 or 8:30.

As for the security situation, I'll prob be bringing in a rum runner full of whiskey tucked into the belt of my pants. How stringent are the pat downs on the way in? Are they gonna get all up on my hang down?
