Yeah... glad i got to go to both last year... but this pissed me off because the Raliegh scene is about 20x better than the charlotte frat-boy d-bag scene... raliegh is WAY more laid back...

I'll be there. Haven't been to a show since MSG 08. Money is tight. I have family that lives within walking distance, so it's just the ticket and the gas that I'll have to worry about. We should all have an Ants get together or something, that would be cool.

This will be my first DMB concert in Charlotte. I live in Iowa, originally from Fayetteville, and will be coming back to NC for this 1st time in 7 years. I was really hoping to get to see them at Walnut Creek, but that's not going to happen. Where are some good spots to go in Charlotte before/after the concert? Also going to Omaha and the infamous announced weekend at Wrigley Field in September.

I guess I have to compare everything to SPAC. It's not bad in and of itself. I just enjoy the whole experience -- the stay, tailgating, post show bars, etc. If, on the other hand, you're looking for an in-and-out, wham bam thank you ma'am show, no problems.

That argument, I get. While I've never been to SPAC or Alpine or the Gorge (the whole venue wars between people on these boards is REALLY annoying, btw) I would think those aren't really comparisons to venues like Charlotte, Raleigh or any other typical outdoor venue situated near metro areas. They're not destination venues for people who venture from other places so much. So I get that the experience of attending a show at those venues is different. But as for your experience with the staff, that doesn't really seem to be a big venue issue, but a more common one. As for Epic shows, I go to 2-3 DMB shows a year and maybe my expectations are tempered because I've never been to a show I didn't enjoy, anywhere. But I've never looked at one of those other venues and their setlists and go 'Man, did we got shafted in Charlotte'.
I'm sure the experience of going to one of those shows could be pretty stellar as an experience (my wife and I are going to the Gorge one day.. that's all there is to it) but your original statement just made it sound like its a shitty venue and not really worth going to, and I couldn't disagree more.
No offense to you of course, it's just how it came across to me and I could be way off base. You are certainly entitled to your opinion on it whether I'm right, wrong or just really opinionated and defensive!! :thumbsup
I love my little 'hometown' venue and feel its had more than its fair share of special shows over the years. First full Flecktones guest appearance, Herbie Hancock and TR (rare back then) guesting in 98, a wonderful old school setlist in 03. Rarities and unique arrangements scattered throughout. I look forward to this show every year. I'd take the Pepsi challenge with any other comparable venue inthe country!!! lol.

No, VZW is fine...I've been going there since it was the Blockbuster. I've caught some great shows there. My only issue is the roof (there still seems to be a problem with which seats are, or are not, under the roof, and depending on the seating chart you get, it's either wrong or right. The only way to be right is to ask around and conduct a statistical survey it seems...of course this only applies if you have one of those questionable seats). As far as being an urban venue, yeah, there are far worse places.
Any fan of the band knows that they pour their heart out night in and night out for any show, no matter what happens (Staples '08 after LeRoi's death proved that). They go big or go home. Strictly from a concert experience, from the moment they start until the end of the encore (or double or triple encore!), I expect the DMB that I've come to know and love.

I met a guy from Argentina with a trust fund who does nothing but attend concerts all year. That's the life. That's well traveled.
I'll consider myself well traveled if I can hit Alpine and the Gorge while DMB is still touring. Let's face it, how many more years of hardcore touring do you think they have in them? I'd say at least 10 more, but at some point, they need to take a year or more off. I know, say it ain't so, right? We all know that its inevitable.

Good luck, but don't get your hopes up. As a 12/98 WH member, my seats the past couple years have been between row 10-15. With the loss of Raleigh, the Charlotte show will likely be even more sought after (except for the fact that it is not on a weekend). Who knows where seats will be assigned to this year.

I've been thinking about it, but my tailgate setup is, well, non-existent. It would definitely be nice to combine resources. Maybe just a grill, red cups, BYOB, instruments, an Ants Flag...keep it simple. These things usually don't work out. SPAC and Alpine have had huge get togethers.

I've gotten some great last minute ticket deals, but I don't recommend it unless you're willing to drive all the way out for nothing. Check out Craigslist and Ebay and of course forums like Ants and try to arrange something. I got awesome seats at MSG by doing this at below face.
There is a thread on ndmbc regarding ticketmaster/live nation and ticket scalping. A great read. I noticed this situation with Charlotte. Some great seats were already onsale on ticket scalper's websites and ebay just seconds after the on-sale. It needs to be stopped. And remember, spay or neuter your animals.

Sec 5 Row Q. Pretty much the same as always. 5 Year member. Maybe 5 years from now I'll move up a little. Happy just to be going though.
I gave up Whorehouse...I mean, Warehouse after 7 years as a member. The reason? For the $30+/year that I pay for the membership, I can:
1) take my chances with public onsale
2) find another pre-sale
3) win tickets from a radio or other contest
4) buy from a scalper
5) or my preferred method, this message board.
Warehouse just isn't what it once was now that everybody and their grandmother has a membership.

Good luck! I know you won't need it. I remember you from SPAC 05 (I think) and maybe C-ville at that place across the way from Millers. If I was going to be up in Charlotte I'd definitely catch the show.'
So...I guess tailgating is not going to work for me. I'm bringing someone who is a recovering alcoholic...I don't want to drink around this person. I also played the dick and suggested they avoid concerts altogether. It's really a Catch-22. Then again, I met a bartender who was a recovered alcoholic once...she always said it like this, "if you can look your demon right in the eye and tell it to go back to hell, then you've beat it." Touche.

Thanks man... that Cville jam was epic! Playing on the mall across from Millers... nice little crowd. we even made a little cash! Too bad you won't be in town tomorrow.
Speaking of which... I'm flying into Charlotte today, meeting up with the band tomorrow when they roll into town. Any ants in the area wanna get together tonight or tomorrow early afternoon? I should be in town and at my hotel by 3pm. Ideally, I'd like to watch one of the hockey games on versus tonite if anyone would like to join me

Trying to make this my first show, working on getting my dad to purchase tickets. Been to verizon once probably 4 years ago to see Jimmy Buffett, i liked the setup there a bit better then the setup in Walnut Creek. I live in fayetteville, so i'm looking at going to either charlotte, Virginia Beach, Nationals Park would be preferred so i could see Gaslight Anthem 2 days later in Philly, or possibly Atlanta. All i found for reserved seats left for this show is uncovered, so should i just go lawn? Or wait for a drop or something? I'm new to DMB stuff, i'm a Springsteen transplant. Help would be appreciated!

Best sight seeing would be to rent a car and drive toward Asheville.. maybe hit the Blue Ridge Parkway. Anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on where you go. Otherwise, in the other direction, it's like 7 hours to the Outer Banks.. four hours to Wilmington if you just want to hit a beach.

I've heard good things about the Blue Ridge Parkway! We will probably have to check it out. I've heard there are a lot of wineries around Charlotte too.. not sure if that's true or not.
We're going to fly in to Charlotte and drive up to DC, for the show up there, plus sight-seeing along the way. We'll be going up... either I-85 or I-95 (one of the two.. can't remember which!) and staying in Richmond along the way. Hopefully it will be a fun trip!

I usually take I-77 to I-81 to get to DC.. but I'm sure I-85 is ok as well. It connects to I-95 somewhere in VA. There are some wineries around. Locally, you can check out what's going on downtown at

Carowinds is cool, although I haven't been in years. It has a water park as well as a theme park with roller coasters and all.
The downtown scene is pretty cool.. great restaurants and bars.
I mentioned to someone else in here for something really unique, go to the Whitewater Center ( usnwc.org ). They have live music on the deck every Thursday, and a full service restaurant with a great selection of beers and wine. You can literally make a day out of it. Go rafting or kayaking, zipline, climbing towers... it's fantastic.

As for tailgating, it's always pretty cool in Charlotte. The big rule is just don't be stupid, and the cops should be cool. If you're underage, just don't give them a reason to check you out.
As mentioned before, the USNWC (http://www.usnwc.org/) is a unique place. Its on your way in to town off of I-85 a few miles. Bring a suit if you want to raft. You could actually shower and change there if you needed to.
If your a NASCAR fan, they just opened the Hall of Fame downtown(uptown). Personally, im not a huge fan, and havent been yet. Heard its kind of pricey.
I you can, id stay Uptown, not near Verizon. Easy to find bars for someone not familiar with the city.

When you enter the pavilion, your VIP Parking pass is on your rear view mirror. You stay in one lane and go to the VIP parking lot. Everyone else goes to the regular parking lots.
And when the show is over and it's time to go, VIP parking lot folks stay in one lane to exit and basically get to pass everyone else.
Usually I escape the VIP parking lot and exit the venue in under 5 minutes. It's great.
Otherwise, I'm in line trying to leave for like 45 mins :lol

Hey guys, I am kinda new here. I live in Durham, NC and am trying to make it to the Nationals Park show in Washington, DC. I have purchased the ticket, but have since lost my job. I was wondering if there were any other ants in the Raleigh/Durham area that are attending this show and may be open to carpooling. I was thinking about going up there early Friday and heading back as soon as the show is finished. It is a 10 hour roundtrip drive and that is a long time to be driving alone. Also I will be going to Charlotte earlier in the week and to Atlanta earlier the next week. I will have 1 WH ticket to sell for the Charlotte show also if anyone is interested. The WH is supposed to send the ticket out on July 7, so I should have on July 9.

You're welcome!
anyone interested in trading 4 tix for 3?
Ive got 4 in section 8. wife wants better seats in 1,2,3. I told her they were slim. none and expensive, yeah there are some limited views available, but the view and the sound is subpar.. Conversely, if you just have any for sale up close id be interested, and would pay a premium, but nothing crazy.
Last year, ill be a Warehouse member. Its BS where the tickets are. These arent terrible, but after being put in the rafters last year for night 2 in Cville, i should have learned my lesson. Bought much, much better tickets off the street for N1.
Same in CLT last year. Crappy warehouse tickets, sold them and bought nice section 2s.

They've really gotten worse this year too with the GA Pit. I think the GA Pit is a good idea, I'm not bitching about that.. I'm bitching about how much farther back my seats are this year.

Charleston, SC is a 3 hour drive from Charlotte and is by far the best city in the south if not the entire country. Great history, beaches, restaurants, nightlife, women, people, etc.
I have to agree with the Charleston recommendation. I am from Charleston coming up to Charlotte for the concert. There are many good looking men here, too ;)
Question:
Why dont they do the deep south shows earlier or later when the weather is cooler? Hoping its not 95 when they play here, but you know it will be. Im sure its logisitics, but dang.

Well, being that its outside, earlier would just be hotter. Later doesn't work for two reasons. 11pm curfew law, and when you're doing a show that size, you want to get people that have to work the next day to come out, and staying out much later than midnight or so is tough on weeknight when you have to be up at 6 or 7. I think the start time is about right, myself.

i meant earlier or later in the year...i thought that was obvious. Guess not.
But, considering this year the tour starts in June and ends in Sept, its gonna be hot any time in charlotte.

OHHHH.. my bad. Yeah that makes sense.
It's hard to say. The show last year was great, obviously.. 2007 in late September was just fine actually.. so yeah, September can work. In my experience, the only problem with shows early in the season is they tend to be a little repetitive.. they lack some diversity. I think 09, being an album release year, and they only played 3-5 songs from the album on that early tour, was actually better in that regard because they mixed those early shows up pretty good with some oldies/rarities. Broke out a little Blue Water. That was all really cool... they weren't focused on relearning a bunch of rarities though, but mixed it up real well that early tour I thought. I loved the Charlotte show and the one Atlanta show I caught that spring. If they're out that early, it would be ideal, but I do prefer fall shows as they're usually playing a lot more, and new songs evolve a bit by then. I think we're getting this year's show at a good time in the tour.

Is it just my experiences, or have others found this to be a tougher ticket this year? As far as trying to get something in the lower pavillion/pit at least? I figured since it was a Wednesday night it wouldn't be that difficult, but finding a pair of lowers for my friends has been tough so far. Maybe the addition of the pit and no Raleigh this year is causing this difficulty?

I'd say that No Raleigh has more to do with it than anything else. Charlotte is the easier show for Raleigh fans to get to.. unless VA Beach is really closer.. but I would think Charlotte would be.

yeah, last year was great weather. Unfortunately, i had 3 douchebags next to me, trying to cram into 2 seats. Real Dbags. We were also sitting 4 seats down from Andy Roddick and Dbag#1 was fuckign with him.
Dont know why i didnt do something about it...must have been in a pacifist mood.

I dont really think your view will be very limited, but its definitely not great. I also find the sound to be not as good way over on the edges in the 1 and 3. Im trying to convince the wife that being in sec8 is better than way on the edges in 1 or 3. She ha this thing about being as physically close to Dave as she can..lol

Do you know how many seats across are in each section?
Hard to say as its different for each row you know.
But if they say you have limited view, you can be sure you are closer to the end of the row than not.
When they used to put up the seat selector thing on live nation, you could actually count the seats on each row.

If they are limited view..then don't worry too much. If they are obstructed views then those can be pretty bad. Limited view seats just mean that you will not have a full view of the stage. Obstructed view means you would have a chance of a huge speaker hanging down in front of you and blocking the stage. If you are on the right side of the stage..you will probably have trouble seeing the Horns Section. If you are on the left side of the stage..then boyd might be out of the picture and a little bit of tim too. But charlotte has too big screens on both sides of the stage as well as the 3 hanging from the stage.

The parking lots are pretty well marked with section letters on the light poles, so whoever gets there first should be able to get the word out. I'd recommend putting up a flag or something similar so anyone who doesn't have your number can find it. Any flag that can act as a landmark would be fine, so long as you can get it up above the cars so people walking up can find it. I won't be able to make the tailgate, unfortunately
