G:-x----x----x----x----x----x----2----2----2----0--

A:-7----7----5----5----2----2--------------x----2--
E:------5---------3------------------------2----3--
I usually play the the open G note in those chords, in which you have put X's. I'm not exactly sure if that's correct or not, but it sounds more full.
Also I think the A chord there is an A7 instead in the actual song, but I could be wrong about that as well. I also think that sounds a tad better.

That's just the tab from dmbtabs.com . I didn't put the X's there ;) .

I'm no theory major but as close as that is to a GMaj7, I think it's not exactly that. Also, I believe it's an A chord, not A7, the second one that is.

It's a Gmaj7 without the b, whatever you would call that
also the second chord is an A7 without the c#, whatever that would be
When I play it on the piano though I use full chords

I also don't know what Gmaj7 without a B is called.
Yeah, I was referring to the second "A7" that was listed, definitely Amaj triad.

As long as you have a few of the chord tones you can still recognize what chord it is. In classical theory, even though there's no third I think it would still be "somewhat" acceptable to call it Gmaj7. But I don't even think that tab is right anyways so it's not worth really discussing what it should actually be. I mean if the chords to the tab aren't even labeled right. I wouldn't even trust the tab really. Plus, those shapes aren't even the shapes that Dave normally uses either...

The only other thing the GMaj7 could be would be an Em7(add2)/G which really makes little sense if you're looking at the harmonic progression of the tune

Thanks for the incite. Love picking the brains of more the intelligible. Yeah i've always played an A but I haven't listened to the tune in a while, even then I wasn't paying attention if there's a 7th of not.
Anyways, apologize for the amateur comments.

Hey Chris,
That chord you labeled A7 (at the end of the progression) is just an A major. 2nd fret on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings. Individual pitches would be E, A, E, A, C#, E from the bass up. No G is present to add the 7th. Is the version you posted the one you play? Or do you play a different chord than the one that is tabbed out? If so, I would like to know how you play it. I love this progression and find nuances every day that I have never heard before.

Anyways, apologize for the amateur comments.not amateur at all... when playing in the key of Em, "A" can be interpreted as A7 without the seventh simply because the G-natural is in the key. However to "assume" the dominant tonality of the chord you'd have to take into consideration where the harmonic progression goes from there.

-Davedammit... i got so into the routine of typing A7 :lol it's totally just a plain 'ole A.
I can't remember where I saw the tab that I learned the A7 chord from... could be an alternate tab I found on the dmbtabs message boards but this is how I've always played it:
E:---------------------0----3----3--------------3--
B:-8----8----7----3----0----3----3----2----3----3--
G:-7----6----x----x----x----x----2----2----2----0--
D:-5----x----4----4----2----2----2----2----x----0--
A:-7----7----5----5----2----2--------------x----2--
E:------5---------3------------------------2----3--
So I actually end up playing:
Em7 - A7 - D - GMaj7 - Em - Em7 - A7(sus4) - A - D/F# - G
