So i was wondering I was able to get a show in shn format through an etrade but the guy said it was originally in shn that he converted to wav and burned as an audiocd. He used EAC to get the audio from teh cd and converted it to shn for me to download. Is it alright if I use this show for shn trading? I know I could use this show for audio trading.
I am thinking I can't but then again I am not sure.

I think the quick answer is no, they shouldn't be used for trading.
However, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, if you were to go to etree and get the original MD5's for the show (not the ones that would be created when you reconverted to SHN) and checked your files against that MD5 and they all passed, then technically your SHN's are no different than anyone else's.
I think the fear is that people won't know or won't bother to check against the originals and then pollute the trading pool, so it's easier to just say "No".
What show is it? If I've got it SHN's I'd B&P it for you.
FYI, MD5's can be found here:

yeah the problem is that it they are two or three howie day shows that i got and they are not in the md5 database @ etree otherwise i would have checked there:p
yeah hopefully one or two of the siteops can respond to this. this question has been on my mind for a while. i remember
EDIT: nevermind i got the answer. erich had done an experiment along time ago and posted it at http://geocities.com/erichwithanh/ and one of the experiments dealt with this. he also had data and other experiments as well.
excerpt from the site:
Conclusion: WAV files can be compressed and recompressed to SHN files and vice versa indefinite number of times without any change to the original file, or the original checksum. Since SHN is lossless, each decompression will yield an exact replica of the original WAV file.
so hopefully from this it means that it is ok.

No its not ok! That experiment was only for decompressing SHNs to the hard drive and then recompressing them. Its totally different when you use EAC to extract the audio from the cd. First off there is a possibility that they would match but you would need to have your offset set correctly in EAC and the cds would have to be in perfect condition. My response is no they aren't the same. Just because they were extracted from a cd

if you still want to do an etrade of this you can do one of the disc image though.... no prob with that... the trader just burns the image... its just him burning it not you.... the problem with SHNing it is that you know have a new form of the show that could be different from the original out there... but a disc image is no different the just burning a b&p
