I have been writing for a while now and came up with about 3 songs that are good lyrically...it seems like i repeat myself in different songs....like one song is like the other lyrically. And I cant get any good emotions out of me anymore...but lets just start at writing good lyrics...please any help would be good

Write from the heart. If you're feeling down, that's what you come up with. If you're in love, you write love songs. It's tough to break free from that.

Out of curiousity, do you do lyrics or music first?

I do alittle bit of both actually, sometimes ill write lyrics put a melody to it with my guitar and trim the lyrics to fit, other times i will come up with stuff playing a melody improvising on lyrics for a line or two then finish with out the guitar. Or ill be thinking of a melody i wrote earlier and write lyrics to it while its in my head.

THanks for the tip

sometimes i write music alone. then sometimes i write music and lyrics at the same time. its like i have music in my head with the words as im goin. but then i forget the music cause i cant figure it out, so i just get lyrics.

I've got a huge problem in that I can write a complete song in five minutes, but it'll take me 6 months to get lyrics I'm happy with. I always feel like I can make one part cleaner or change something there.

Ever listen to Guitar and Pen by The Who, it's that same damn feeling!

well, my suggestion is just write, tryign different techniques

Like i've been writing for 3 months now, and have completed 19 songs, I think like 5 of them are super good, 10 of them are good, and 4 of them are pretty good, I'm happy with them all, but they all can't be the best.

but i range in writing styles, like my first song came from everything going on in my life, one of my latest is written to my brother (I was really pissed at him at the time), some are love songs.

and there are soem that have no meaning, or make you think, etc. etc. Like soem Phish songs

as for writing, it depends when soemthign comes first,
cuz when i have a good idea of lyrics then i write them down, and when i got a good riff i write it down
then i'll play this riff, and see if these lyrics fit it well.

and I've had songs switch music its cool
