What do you think will be the ratio new song/old song on the new album?
It will be fun to revisit this thread when the album is finally released... :)

I'd guess two or three songs we've heard before, and the rest new

The real question is how many songs on the album??

If by "new" you mean songs none of us know about then I say less than 33%. But I think there will be some old ideas that Dave has down on tape that get resurrected.

That's exactly what I mean by "new". ;)

I hope it's not just an EP of all songs we've heard before. I have nothing to base this on, I just hope it will be a full length LP with mostly new songs, simply cause of the lillywhite factor. Give me some songs with some longer track duration as well. although longer songs aren't always better, for dmb all of their longer songs tend to be the better ones.

most likely all new.

Dammit. When I voted I thought I was voting for less than 33% OLD songs. My vote should be with the majority :BANG

Hopefully all new

I think it's funny that the consensus around here has shifted to "they're reworking songs we've all heard before" - I think the only song we'll recognize off the new album will be Sweet (and personally, I hope even that one doesn't make it).

I don't think that's the consensus at all. At least on this poll BTW. The majority is voting mostly new songs.

I think Black Jack and Sweet are probable
shotgun is possible
1 or 2 other "old ones" are a maybe hopefully it's Crazy Easy makes it
these plus about 7-9 brand new ones should be the album IMO.

I hope it's all new stuff, but I don't think it will be. More like 2 new songs or so. I think people's opinions are being influenced heavily by what they want, rather than the facts that are out there. I'll be back to eat crow in 6 months if I'm wrong. :)

God I hope "Sweet" is not on the album.

I'm figuring two recent songs at most. Then maybe a few songs that we'll realize were teased at some point.

can this be one of the old ones, obviously with some work?

I see something like 3-4 ideas developed and completely changed into something great (like hurricane, gas into fire, sweet, some devil intro from radio city, round and round, etc) + 2 old song (probably Sugar Will and Shotgun, maybe SUAD) and the rest (around 6-7) new songs (that may include some surprise like MacHead hehehe!).

Considering there has only been one album with absolutely all new material in the band's history (and given that, BWGK still had Cornbread on the European release), I would say it's doubtful the album is all new.

Eh, there's also Everyday. Unless you consider the song Everyday a reworking of #36, in which case Baby Blue is just as close to Sister.

I do count Everyday as a reworking of #36, but I don't consider Baby Blue a reworking of Sister. They still play Sister, whereas they don't play #36. Also, Sister and Baby Blue have a similar riff, but are two completely different songs otherwise.

This whole making of this new album really reminds me of 2002 and waiting for busted stuff. I believe this album will have maybe 3, more likely 2, new songs and the rest will be well know by the fan base.

All new stuff. Don't want to hear anything I've already heard before. One of the best songs they've ever made (shotgun) never made a record. What a shame.

and by "new songs" who knows, maybe some of them are songs that were left when the stopped with lillywhite back in '00 that may be rehashed or what not.
I do expect Break For It, and The Idea Of You to be on the album for sure.

I think Blackjack and one other previously live-only song (Shotgun, Crazy-Easy, etc) will be on there, the rest will be new.

all new, and i'm pretty confident about that. no inside knowledge. i just have ZERO desire to hear any old live tracks on the new album.

^^^ See? Exactly my point. "I think it'll be all new because I want it to be all new."

My guess... 8 out of 13 will be new tracks. So, 61.5%

based on the play count at the caravan shows, my guess is that Granny, Blackjack, and Shotgun will be the three "previously heard" songs on the new album. They were played the most (5 times) out of any unreleased oldie. Makes sense for them to road test some songs out.

Unless its an out and out declared B-Sides album, I highly doubt Granny is on it.

Its either all new.
Almost all old.
or
Mostly new with 1, perhaps 2 old songs.
The only thing I don't see happening is some kind of even mix of the two.

I'll never understand why people continue to bring #40 and granny into the discussion everytime a new album comes out.

I would guess all new save for 1-2 previously-performed songs, at the most.

soooo a good friend met carter and rashawn in seattle couple weeks ago and asked this question: "asked Rashawn if 'Sugar Will' would be on the new album. He shook his head and said emphatically: "we're not doing any old stuff"!
So take that for what its worth.
