Do you all realize that most of us have been dreaming of the boys being in the studio with Lillywhite again since 2000? This thread is for rejoicing in that reality, a reality we thought would never come to fruition. Before we start speculating to the hilt, let us all just take a moment and thank our creator that DMB and Lillywhite are again collaborating. After all, our last reference point for that combination is BTCS/tLWS, two works of art that represent perhaps the (first) peak of DMB. And here's to hoping that someone has brought up Monkey Man in the studio!

I'm greatly excited for what's to come. This time I think the boys finally know and appreciate how its fanbase is feeling.

Rejoice my friends, rejoice.

Gates of Eden is a fantastic Bob Dylan song. I'm trying to spark a discussion about being grateful for what we have, no need to show off and mock me for conveying some positivity on an otherwise cynical message board. The word rejoice doesn't have a sole religious connotation and instead of thanking our creator or whatever that entity may be (if there even is one) perhaps I should have thanked the cosmos for bringing the band and their best producer together once again. :)

Thank the band and the producer. They brought themselves together. Possibly the record company. I don't think the cosmos care about who produces DMB albums. Appreciate what you're going for though, not enough positivity around here. Regardless, I am rejoicing! :monkey

I really think the current lineup has improved their sound, and hopefully they have created some seriously excellent tunes with Lillywhite in the studio. Call me overly-optimistic, but I'm pumped for the summer tour.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again... If we aren't satisfied with this album, we might as well hang it up in terms of ever expecting to get a quality album out of the boys ever again. So there's always that. We get to raise our enthusiasm and hopes yet again. Almost like the band knew they needed to do something to get some hype for this album.

And the fact that Lillywhite tweeted, "Big 4... FOR SURE!!" lets us know where his head is at, and the fact that he certainly acknowledges what we have all been waiting for from this band. That increases the anticipation significantly, in my book. Lillywhite, and the band know what us fans are expecting this time around.

I just personally hope that Lillywhite can work some magic for Rashawn's contribution to this album. I know it's been said before, but a lot of us really aren't into the trumpet blasting away, and overpowering DMB songs. Let's hope Lillywhite relegates his part to some sort of subtle horn brilliance heard in the background. To the point where you might have to rewind a few times to hear him and say, "Right there... That's Rashawn!"

I apologize in advance to those that really like what Rashawn has brought to the band. I just think he can be a bit much at times.

Haha, I love Rashawn. I much prefer him to Jeff, actually. I'd rather have Rashawn steal some solos away from Jeff from time to time. Maybe I just really miss Roi, but I dig Rashawn as well.

I just wish Jeff would play more like Roi, lol. I agree that the loss of Roi is huge. Jeff just can't be Roi, and I'm sure he isn't trying. He has his own style. It's just not the style we have all come to love out of Roi.

Maybe Lillywhite can help Jeff find his place with the band while he's at it? I mean, Lillywhite is some sort of deity, isn't he? LOL

Then I would say game over for the dave matthews band. I would still go to 1-2 shows a summer if they kept touring just to hang with friends and enjoy the great old tunes they have, but I think if this album stinks then all hope is lost for them to get back to their potential.

Hit it right on! The bolded would be perfect. Subtlety is a lot of what old DMB is about, particularly the Roi side of things.
Great thread btw.

well, i'll 2nd the spirit of the original post...i think we all have alot to be grateful for with the band right now, particularly after the tragedy of roi's passing. i mean, the band is in the studio with lillywhite, and tim is part of the band now. it's incredible that's true really.

This thread speaks the truth. How many people actually thought that Lillywhite would work with DMB again? This whole new album process, at least so far, has played out more like some DMB fanfiction story than real life. Every time I come in this forum or read Lillywhite's Twitter feed, my mind is blown.

To me it feels much like pre-tour 2008 when they announced Butch gone, Tim Reynolds joining the band on tour...it was like a dream come true, and what Tim has brought has satisfied and exceeded expectations. As far as I'm concerned, his re-addition has been nothing short of salvation for the band on the road.

Lillywhite helping DMB record a new album for the first time in over a decade, is at least twice as amazing, and almost unbelievable. Something that's been talked/thought about for so long, as if it could never happen, and BAM, we are now on the cusp of this album being finished and released. Just wow.

It was also a dream come true when Tim rejoined the band...that's didn't make everyone happy in the end either. In fact, people will always find something to complain about. It used to be complaints that Ants and WWYS were played all the time. Then the hate moved to Crash Into Me and Too Much. Only to be later dumped on DDTW and Stay. Looking back we would all love a show with all those songs played in it, but there was a time when people complained about those things too.
