View Full Version : Are the new songs necessarily on the new album?

I think 95 percent that they are. However...considering the tendency of the band to not put every song they put on tour on the album (Joy Ride, Cornbread, Beach Ball), is it worth considering that these songs might not be on the album?

mercy gaucho are definite, but i still have hope that sweet is not.

I still believe that they test the audiences with their live tour and can change it up if they so choose...I think Mercy and Gaucho are definitely on the album, given their publicity (Jimmy Fallon, free download). I don't know about Sweet though...

The album is done, there's no changing it....

I get that...meant that Sweet was toyed with in 2011 and that they could choose whether or not to include it on the album with new stuff.

mercy and gaucho are obviously going to be on since the album is done and they are publicizing both so much.

I'd say 100% that Mercy and Gaucho are on the album. Sweet: 65%. I'm still hoping for Shotgun, but I'm sure that's just wishful thinking :p

I think the new songs are unnecessarily on the new album.

I don't know if they are or not. It would be nice if Gaucho, Mercy and Sweet were on a bonus disc and the album was all new material that no one has heard. I think all three songs are solid and if they are on the new album, I won't be disappointed at all.

I'd say 5% chance Sweet is on the new album.

I'd say 5% chance Sweet is on the new album.

with a 95% chance of it ending up as a bside.

I hope the "Hurricane" riff evolved into something that is on the album. That one had a lot of promise.

I get the feeling that there are no b-sides. It is possible Sweet is not on the album (though i suspect it is)... if it isn't, there won't be a b-side of it floating around.

Sweet is a perfect Dave solo album song.

I hope not. I would be so happy if none of these songs were on the new album. It would be amazing if the new album sounded nothing like these three songs. I'm probably dead wrong though.

At least 2 of these songs ARE on the album, so you can start hoping for something else.

Wasn't eh hee released on it's own? Also wasn't there an early release of some GGK stuff with slight differences in mix or endings? I think Mercy is a single. Gaucho is not a single imo, but a real nice song and I hope it fits on the album because it and Mercy convey to me a good direction in style. Sweet I hope is a B side and on a bonus disk.

We pretty much know for a fact that Mercy and Gaucho are on it. 100%.

I kind of have a feeling that "Sweet" isn't.

Lillywhite confirmed Gaucho is on the new album, and is not a b-side. Mercy is also on the new album, confirmed first by Fallon. Sweet is up in the air, depending on how you read Lillywhite's tweets. I hope it didn't make it, the band can do better, IMO.

I really hope Shotgun made this album though. With lillywhite's touch, it could be
a top 10 DMB song.

Sweet & Blackjack might not be on it...but if they keep playing them, it might be a strong possibility they are

Eh Hee was released as a Dave solo single back in 2007.

I hope if Mercy is on the album, it includes the jam bits and pieces that people are praising from the recent live shows. It's one thing to enjoy a song after it's been performed for a while and watch it grow as it becomes road-tested. But the studio album is the official version, and the version that will presumably be listened to more than various live recordings. I can understand fans enjoying a song more live because of the concert experience, but I want the studio versions to be equally well-developed and finished in their own right. That was the probably the biggest flaw with BW - the writing was hit-or-miss, but even the good songs that people enjoyed were generally enjoyed live more so than on the original album. The way some people post on here, they are looking forward to the new album more for how the new songs will translate live rather than the album versions themselves being good.

Well, Sweet has grown on me with the full band portion. and if the band were in it a bit more, I would love to hear Sweet on the album. Hell, I'll even love hearing it like it is now. Good adaptation to the song. I didn't realize that it was even a question that Mercy and Gaucho were on the album...

Fortunately Mercy is.
Unfortunately Gaucho is.

There goes "the perfect" album.

Wow the pessimism is never ending on these threads, I love Mercy and Gaucho and I can't wait to see where they fall on the album and I can't wait to see the songs that surround them. What I love about BTCS, Crash and UTTAD is that they are DMB albums that I can listen to straight through without skipping songs, and I think Lillywhite is great at doing that; making an album blend together. So I think that its wrong for people to put this album down without listen to the whole yet. Also I love sweet and I think it would be a cool song on an album but I would also be cool with it as an unreleased, just as long as I get to hear it.

Is it possible that the intro to Eh Hee is a new song being teased?

scrock25
05-25-2012, 08:45 PM
Why do people STILL think that road tested unreleased songs are going to be on the album, like Sweet, Blackjack, and Shotgun?? I don't understand how anybody could think these songs are coming close to touching the new album.

It's obvious that Mercy and Gaucho are. Why does anybody thing Sweet, Blackjack, or Shotgun are?

I am referring to the new tease or intro at the beginning of Eh Hee which may or may not be a part of Eh Hee. Also to answer your question - Halloween and nearly all of Busted Stuff are just two examples of this band reverting to road tested songs that existed far before their release for their new album.

scrock25

Busted Stuff might not be the best example in this case, don't you think??

I also wasn't replying directly to you.

At least three of their albums (Crash, BTCS, BS) is old material being rehashed. I in no way think that they are necessarily going to do that for this album.

I am asking about the little Dave, Carter, Tim, fill before Eh Hee.

Firstly, I'm insanely jealous of these wildly lucky fans.

Secondly, someone asked if any other previously played songs besides the 3 news ones are on the album, and they said no.

I guess that pretty much answers the question of whether Sweet is on the album?

If Sweet is on the album, then I think it will be the "2 min and change" song that Lillywhite was talking about. Or at least I hope so.

He also just tweeted: "@jspalding Mercy is #3, Gaucho is #4 and goes straight into Sweet with an awesome transition."
