Anyone else like me not really digging the full band Sweet?

I think it is a better solo song and more fit for a Dave solo album. I think it sounds kinda choppy, or at least did in Hartford, with the full band

IMO it really needs more of a breakdown, and a solo or two

It's a total yawnfest either way.

I think this is a completely inoffensive, breezy song. It's not the type of song that will make or break an album for me.

this is the kind of family friendly song dave should be writing, not songs like you and me, and id like to see the band come in earlier, but it REALLY worked for me in hartford

It doesn't feel forced. If there's one criticism of Gaucho I can get behind outside of the lyrics, it's that it feels forced.
Neither this song or Mercy feels forced. No intentionally loud choruses, just two songs that they let breathe.

After watching it full band, I like it much better. I still don't think we've heard the full song as far as "Sweet" is concerned.

Do you think the whole song will be full band? thats what I'm starting to think. It just sounds so much better with the entire band playing it.

Much prefer it full band to Dave solo, although I've only ever heard it live solo when it made it's debut at Chicago Caravan.

I'm starting to at least hope that it will be. It is a good song with Dave solo but it is just much better with the full band.
Anyway seems like they are just teasing us with Sweet to be honest. First Dave plays it completely solo and now the band comes in for the last minute and a half.
Just have to wait

This is what I said a couple of weeks ago in another thread. I totally agree with you. The transition seems weird, feels like they are teasing the album version while transitioning the original Dave solo one we already knew.

I don't see why Dave would do that.

I don't really like Sweet at all, either style. I love Mercy and Gaucho, but can't get into Sweet. I'm disappointed it's on the new album.

I'm liking the full band, I still have the sneaking suspicion that the band will play through the whole song on the album as well rather than just ramping in at the end - kind of feel like a similar thing with Mercy perhaps having more band at the start on the album as well - I could really see this song becoming bigger and stronger as the tour(s) progress

Finally watched the full band video (complete with douchebag commentary:BANG). Solo version never did much for me. The band makes it about 1000x better. Great moment when everyone comes in, absolutely love the shift in dynamics. Can't to hear it w/ Lillywhite's touch on the album.

:humpThat may be it for me. i enjoy Sweet as a solo song, and I enjoy the drums and rhythm but the best of both doesn't work for me. Since it is definitely on the album I hope it is full band the entire song

i actually really like the song, simple catchy little ditty. I also really like what happens when the full band comes in, I just wish they would come in earlier and that perhaps they try to insert some sort of bridge into the song that does something. Granted, this is all wishful thinking as I think what we've heard is how it will be presented on the record, I just wish the rest of the band would be represented more on this song.

I love all of the three new songs, but I am surprised this one made the cut.
I just don't like the way it sounds or really anything about it.
Hopefully the studio version will change my mind.

I'm not really sure why they slow it down so much with the full band as compared to Dave solo.
I kinda wish dave had played the shotgun guitar or the raised B rather than the uke. I understand that he would have had to change the part and make it less percussive for the little red guitar, but I think it might be better. Interesting to hear anyway.
Also: If Only, Sweet, and Mercy sound more like Some Devil than any of the full band albums.

This is a song that I really see having potential on the album. Love full band. When I heart it D&T in November I had mixed feelings but singing along with some ants to the opener in CT was a damn good time.

I have no idea what WILL happen, but this is what I think SHOULD happen:
The first verse and the first chorus are both Dave solo, maybe with very light drumming. Then Dave strums through the chords a few more times, after which the band comes in, full force.

From the moment I saw Sweet at its debut in Chicago last summer I was horrified. Never in my most terrible nightmares could I have imagined it would be on a DMB album. I actually thought Dave was joking when he played it. Thank god some solid new tunes have made me almost forget about its existence.

It's a solid line sung to a catchy melody and it's a great simple message summing up the rest of the song. Don't be such a reductionist. What are you a scientist?
It's a better line than, "spoon in spoon, stirring my coffee" or, "Up and down the puppies hair flees and ticks jump everywhere" or, "sometimes I walk there sometimes I take a taxi"
