Just curious as to which you would prefer.

New album. 10-12 new songs or a release such as this:

Joyride
Shotgun
Breakfree
Idea of you
Sugar will
Good good time
Crazy easy
Hello again ( the stand up version does not count)
Machead
Granny
People people
Spotlight( i know its a stretch but humor me)
Watchtower(studio)

Personally, I would love for these tunes to be released.

You forgot this. Nobody seems to remember they recorded that song already.

I'd like a cleaner copy of Kind Intentions--not a re-recording, but the original version they recorded with Lillywhite waaaaaaaay back in the day. It's a beautiful track, but the currently available version is all warbly...

1) They need to STOP Playing Watchtower (STOP ENCOURAGING THEM)
2) Even though spotlight is amazing Dave thinks its bad so it will never happen
3) MACHEAD WILL NEVER HAPPEN SO JUST GET OVER IT
4) People People will never make it to an album because as stefan has said it is Peter Graiser (Spelling?) song
5) Hello Again is already on an album they would never re do it
6) Granny doesn't need to be put on a studio album in my opinion, its good as it is
7) Not a huge fan of Sugar Will (Maybe its the hour long intro that I could never get past)

Other than that I would love to see Shotgun, Idea of You, Crazy-easy, Good Good Time, Break Free, Joyride, Sweet up and Down, JTR, MONKEY MAN all put onto some kind of album,

Which makes me really hope that the "Christmas Present" that lillywhite mentioned has something to do with those songs!!

DMB is due for a rarities or "b-sides" collection. I mean you just KNOW they've been vaulting stuff since the early days.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if--as a sort of in-honor-of getting back together with Lillywhite in the studio--they included an EP in the deluxe edition of the new album that featured some of those tracks they worked on together back in the day? You'd have the fanbase over the moon if they did that. :D

I want a new album, with new tunes. What's the obsession with getting an "official" compilation of the songs you listed? You can hear the majority of them whenever you want online, and many of them live in concert. New music equalls a living, breathing, and growing band.

If the new stuff were half as good as the stuff listed, I'd agree with you.

I agree 100 percent but I think the thought process with people who want the old stuff officially released (myself included) is that it is officially released then the band would be obligated to play those b-sides more often live. Most of those songs listed (with the exception of watchtower, please stop playing it) they aren't played often.

My evidence of this being true is if you consider Big Whiskey when it was released even three years after the released the songs are dominating the setlists. Wouldn't it be pretty awesome to see some of these hidden gems make a regularly rotation.

Also my last point and least important is that if it is officially released maybe non die hards will get to hear the hidden gems.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning, brah. The stuff listed already exists and the majority of it is accessible to any fan (with the obvious exception of Machead which may or may not even exist.) So listen to it whenever you want. And other than the 4 songs that have already debuted, most of us have no freaking clue what "the new stuff" even sounds like. So yeah, I'll take the new stuff.

You've heard about a third of the album.

I like the songs we've heard better than half of those songs anyways. They're definitely not as good as Machead though.

There are at least 3 identical threads like this prior to the release of Big Whiskey. With so many great live versions of these songs, why would you want the band to waste time putting together a studio version instead of create new material?

This is where your reasoning is flawed. they're not obligated to play shit and they know it. we have studio versions of Typical, LLD, BOWA, Cry Freedom, DIDO, LYD, Pig, Dreaming Tree, Spoon, Captain, So Right, If I Had It All, Space Between, Kit Kat Jam, Raven, Busted Stuff and several others and they see very little play time. some of them, virtually no play time at all. therefore, releasing b-side studio tracks, although nice for the fans, won't mean crap when it comes to live shows.

The only thing that might suck about releasing some of these tunes is that many of them don't have set lyrics. I fear for what they would turn out to be if he wrote them to lyrics similar to the new stuff. Crazy Easy, Good Good Time, and Sugar Will might lose some of their intrigue.

That is not what I mean, when an album is released usually the following tours will be filled with that album (ie Big Whiskey and that last 3 years). Those albums were released a while ago.

And the songs in question were written a while ago, as well

I'd throw A Dream So Real and The Fly on there.

Considering they didn't do a great job of recording songs like Joyride and Hellow Again for the Stand Up Sessions, I don't think it would be wise to try recording all of the other songs you mentioned. As stated earlier, we already have a great deal of access to them.

I'll take the new album... But still have fingers crossed for an eventual studio release of some of those songs you mentioned.
