The Riff seems like it could be an instrumental. The album title is awesome. September 11 release date is provocative as fuck! I love it. And I think that Alpine could possibly get a debut of another new song.
So far they've played the feel good songs about believing and changing the world, but by the looks of it, the other songs are going to carry some dark and heavy themes. Drunken Soldier seems like it'll be so damn angry. Like Halloween angry, just not about love.

September 11th is a Tuesday, which is when all new music albums come out (I think)... so it may have been planned that way but it also may have been a coincidence.

Shows Dave and Tim playing together, Carter, Stefan and Boyd playing alone and Lillywhite behind a soundboard during the first 45 seconds of the opening of a song. Starts out with some delicate guitar plucking by Tim and Dave that sounds freaking amazing, then the band comes in overtop of it and it really opens up. Has a little bit of spanish feel to it, then the music drops out and some really spacey lyrics start that are hard to make out but to me he is saying "That's what a start, that's a sound....".
I am thinking it may be the first song of the CD. That is what they played first for Big Whiskey (Grux-->Shake Me) and someone said the first song had a seek upish guitar sound and I can slightly hear that in that video clip.

You are both wrong. Drunken Soldier is MacHead after they reworked some of the lyrics to modernize it a bit. Its about love lost and love found. Its about the uncertainty of today's world. But mostly its about sex.

It's interesting that they're giving us another album title presumably based upon lyrics of a song versus a song title itself. There's just something about a multi-word set of lyrics versus a song title that adds a layer of intrigue and album-connectivity. Also interesting are the song titles and how they emulate past lyrics and song titles, if not aim to subtly recall DMB's last venture with Lilliwhite:
Track List:
Broken Things - how about Busted Stuff
Belly Belly - check out the 3rd definition of Belly on urban dictionary...I guess it's like Diggin' A Ditch?!
Mercy - for there's no way, no way, no way out of life...Big Eyed Fish
Gaucho - essentially extinct "cowboys" of South America, known as proud and quickly willing to embrace extreme violence when provoked....like a Raven, known too as a symbol of death
Sweet - Up and Down
The Riff - something like a Kit Kat Jam
Belly Full - come fill me up...JTR
If Only - I had a brain...oft outro to Bartender
Rooftop - counting the stars that fill the sky...You Never Know (gotta work Busted Stuff in there again!)
Snow Outside - is white, reflecting all the spectral colors mixing together...Grey Street
Drunken Soldier - or a Captain if you will

I see that as a good sign for how the album was treated from a mixing point of view. I ordered the vinyl and FLAC download for maximum eargasms.
That video jam sounds like it could float right into Gaucho pretty easily. The horns even echo a fill from Gaucho at one point, and the feel is very similar.
Can't wait until the show tomorrow - AWESOME TIMING!!!!!!:bounce:bounce:bounce

if I purchase the FLAC files, then what exactly am I going to notice differently? also do these download into itunes and then onto an iphone/ipod? or how do they work exactly?

You need to convert from FLAC to mp3. Then title and transfer to iTunes. I use Trader's Little Helper to convert.
This is only one way that I do it. There may be others.

I do this with taper pulls, but I'd have to do that with purchases as well? then what's the point of buying FLAC if you have to convert to mp3...?

also, I do not think that the video of Drunken Soldiers is put together accurately...I believe that the minimal amount of lyrics that we hear come at another point during the song and it has been "cut and pasted" so to speak...just sounds like too awkward of a transition

Drunken Soldier - or a Captain if you will
This is completely insane, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Album For The Win.
Er. I can't believe I just did that. But, yes, it's much easier than BWGK/BWGGK.
And I'm listening to the snippet of Drunken Soldier over and over again and it just gets better and better with every 55 seconds.

Got the deluxe! I do wish the vinyl was included though. I'm getting a great vibe from this album. But I really hope they promote it a lot! I really want DMB to break the record, and get their music out there- i know popularity isn't the need for the band right now, but hopefully they can break this one out.

I hope non-die hards take this album seriously, like an album not think of it as "Dave Matthews Band is a bro band" or "Dave Matthews band studio albums suck". I know alot of people who wouldn't listen to it because the fact its DMB

I pre-ordered the Super Deluxe of Big Whiskey when that was released. Don't expect it to come on the day of release but I think it came reasonably soon after (though you'll probably have to pay import duty on arrival on top of the delivery charge). My brother went to a shop and bought the UK release on the day though so we could still listen to it.
But basically, yeah you can.

I'm gonna pre-order, but I'd imagine there will be UK release similar to Big Whiskey with some sort of different content (like the UK release having Cornbread on the bonus disc). I'm hoping 'Available Everywhere on September 11th' actually means everywhere rather than everywhere in America so we can get a copy on the day while I wait for the Super-Deluxe to arrive!

iTunes doesn't support FLAC, only Apple Lossless. VLC will play anything. No need to convert it.

I convert FLAC to WAV, import to itunes (itunes supports .wav's), then convert to Apple Lossless to shrink the file size down. It's not 100% but its a better route than converting to lossy mp3's.

I haven't been able to listen to Mercy on youtube yet, but is anyone else a little skeptical about the lasting impact this album will have with fans? I know BTCS was not well received when it was first released and then pretty much everyone loved it, looks like this might be the opposite where the new songs aren't bad, Lillywhite produced them, and now the die hards are losing their minds over how amazing everything is. This might be a time where they really have written quality songs, but they fall back to being good songs (So Right, Grace is Gone, Captain) rather than epic (Two Step, Dreaming Tree, Typical Situation). I don't know, rambling a bit, but I just hope these songs have staying power and are able to round out setlists for years to come rather than getting all excited and realizing they aren't all that special.

This is a band called the Dave Matthews Band . . . they don't worry so much about titles but they do put out some great music.

If they were to release Falling Off the Roof and NOT Shotgun, Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Good Good Time, or Idea Of You, I'd be very ticked off at this band.
If Rooftop = Falling off the Roof (yeah, 1% likelihood, I realize), I will die a happy fan.

I'd be surprised if they released it, just because of what the dmb Almanac says about it:
"This song, played on the Veillette guitar, was played once in 2007 but then seemed to disappear. In 2009, however, Dave and Carter recorded the song with Herbie Hancock for the latter's album The Imagine Project, released on June 22, 2010. While the album's initial press release listed the song (retitled "Jackpot" from the original "Falling Off the Roof") as appearing on the album and promotional videos showed Dave recording it with Hancock, the song ended up being replaced by a cover of the Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows. According to an interview with Herbie Hancock, Jackpot was dropped because 'Dave decided he hated the song.'"
Not impossible that they wouldn't completely rework it, but seems unlikely.

Great info, thanks! Here's hoping that a studio recording of Dave, Carter and Herbie playing Jackpot will surface someday, maybe in bonus materials.

:freak I guess Mr. Matthews and I will have to agree to disagree on this one. To me it's more sad, moving, and lyrically nuanced (http://lyrics.wikia.com/Dave_Matthews_Band:Falling_Off_The_Roof) than most of what we've heard from AFTW so far. Oh well, back on topic now.

Not worried in the slightest. The nuances that are abundantly clear in Mercy & Gaucho so far still have me surprised. If So Right were produced by Lillywhite, I think it would have been a great staple song, ala WWYS. I have a feeling that this album will catch me by surprise months & thousands of times after I listen to it. Can't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait!!!!
