Anybody think that "broken things" might be an allusion to "busted stuff"? seems to me to be a nod to doing it right this time and sticking with lillywhite :lol

I think the most accurate part of your post is the ":lol" at the end.
No, I don't think that's what is going on at all.

I laughed when I first read broken things in the tracklist. I imagine that they just recorded Busted Stuff and used a thesaurus to rewrite the song.
That said, I doubt there's any connection between the 2 songs other than the identical meanings of the titles.

I'm getting some sort of vibe from this album so far....like Dave is having some issues in the romance department. We have a song like If Only where he seems to be pining away for old flames. Then we have a song like The Riff which is like begging forgiveness from a current love. Then we have this song called Broken Things which starts the album off on an interesting note. And then we have Mercy and Gaucho where he's talking about the world needing to come together. It's like this theme of personal and worldly brokenness that needs repair.

You mean this:
Broken Things? A not so veiled reference to the Busted Stuff they never finished with Lillywhite?

I kind of get the impression that the names of these songs were not agonized over--I am betting a lot of these were just working titles that stuck, and "Broken Things" might have been so-named because something in the song made Dave or the band think of "Busted Stuff."
I mean... "Gaucho" I've already theorized is simply named for its musical qualities. "The Riff" seems like a pretty blatant working title. "Belly Belly" and "Belly Full" sound like they stemmed from the same piece of music, and I'll be surprised if they don't share some commonalities when we hear them on the album. If I had to make a bet, I'd say the band was intent on not recording things to death and dragging the process out, which is what killed the LWS.
Granted, the idea I'm stating above sounds worryingly like the method used on Stand Up, where songs were just forced out of musical tidbits. But from everything we've heard so far... I don't think that's the case at all here.

Just because they didn't suffer over titles doesn't mean the music will be assembled in a Stand Up fashion. I think you're right about this. Dave's never taken titles too seriously. When I saw the track list for AFTW I immediately thought of the early track list from BTCS sessions (funk in 5, egyptian, chim-chimmeny, etc). Anyone else think about that?

Exactly what I thought of, except they didn't bother to rename some of these songs, obviously (Gaucho, The Riff, maybe others)
It's a little different titling message for DMB... I don't mind it as I'm a Smashing Pumpkins fan and Billy's song titles often have NOTHING to do with the lyrics. At least these songs you can tell where they got the titles.

It was over three years ago. But could they have some sort of correlation???!?!?!?!!?
Surprised nobody posted this yet:

I bet they are related. I mean I doubt he wrote those songs in a night or two like with everyday. From what it sounds like from Stefan in the interview, he had been working on them for quite a while.

That's why he has a .... added to it.
That is to imply he is trailing off when saying.

In this post, you start with the idea that song names are not really important to the band. You then conclude from that thought, the band is dangerously close to recording another "Stand Up" type record.
Here are some song names by DMB:
Spoon
Pig
#27
#34
#36
#40
#41
Seven (based on time signature)
JTR
Christmas Song
The Song That Jane Likes
Granny
Dancing Nancies
Oh
Halloween
Pantala Naga Pampa
Please please please don't judge songs based off of their titles. Earlier in DMB history, there was a guy who worked with the band who would make up names for songs when they couldn't come up with one. I forget his name... but he made up Blue Water Baboon Farm and Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors.

Add to that American Baby Intro (named b/c its came before American Baby on the album), Two Step (time signature and style of the song), Kit Kat Jam (?????), Jimi Thing, Eh Hee, Write a Song, and Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors.

This doesn't count because it was named by a fan.

You misinterpreted his post, he was not saying anything about the names being bad therefore the song wil be bad he was talking about the recording style. People need to figure out the posters intent before they start a contraversy

Here's hoping that Broken Things is way better than Busted Stuff, which in my opinion after WAYG is the worst of all of those songs. Not a great tune.
