hey all, im at school now and i was a very last minute packer so I forgot to pack all my extra strings.. so of course I broke the G, and I have no replacement for it, but I have just about every other string to replace... is it possible (having an okay sound) to put a diff string in that positiion and tuning it to G or am I stuck buying a new pack online (its not a bad alternative, but they are overpriced and then shipping, it costs like 20 bucks)

you write songs that don't use the G string. i suggest satellite type things

What's with that crazy G string? I am always breaking mine. I seem to break one every week or two weeks, it sucks. So i am always stuck having to buy new packs to use only the g-string. I just switched to playing with a nylon pick..so maybe that will help out a little..but thigns just aren't the same; i need more sound...oh well....

the gstring is the easiest to break because its almost in between the woundness of the lower strings, and the unwoundness of the higher, it takes qualities of both, and because its neither completely it breaks, ive been told about packs that put in an extra g but i have never seen one, and if you break your gstring that often, you might wanna take a look at your bridge, see if there are any spurs or anything to break em that fast.

i talked my mom into going and buying and sending them over to me.. its just annoying because if i want to order a 6 dollar pack of strings, they are 11 bucks online, and then shipping makes it 20... if someone wants to just send me an extra G if they have one lying around, you'd be my hero

look on musiciansfriend.com you might be able to buy a pack of G strings. I know you can get a pack of high e strings. not sure about the g's though.

Dude, what kind of crazy place do you live in where you can't get a patch string? Almost every music store sells individual strings for like a buck each. A "G" string is usually around a .24 gauge, IIRC.
