Hi,

I was thinking about switching to the rack because I heard it (a) requires less cymbal stands to move around and (b) you get things closer exactly where you want them.

Can any drummers out there comment on it, how much, and what about those things that come with it to attack your drums/cymbals? How much do they cost?

I have the same type of drums Carter has.

Thanks for any help,

Derek

Well, I wouldn't recommend getting a Yamaha drum rack because they're considerably more expensive when compared with other racks. I'd say go with Gibraltar. I once had one on my kit and it worked out great. Gibraltar makes tons of attachments and adapters for the rack tubes as well. Yamaha's rack tubes are 1/4" in diameter compared to the 1/2" diameter of Gibraltar's tubes. You can either purchase Gibraltar's rack tubes as part of a package (with clamps) or just the tube by itself. Their tubes are cheap as hell. In Interstate Music Supply's catalog they sell a 59" straight tube for only $30. That's a long damn tube. You can always cut it to size if you want. I also recommend getting the Road Series rack clamps instead of the Power Rack clamps because they're more durable and only slightly more expensive.

This page has listings of the things I described:

Definitely suggest the rack. I have a Pearl to go with my drums, and I like it because the "tubes" are actually rectanglular bars, so no chance for them to slip. If you move your set a lot a rack can be a hassle, but if it usually stays in one place they are awesome. Good luck.
