The song "what you are" is on Everyday and Folsum Field. I need some help figuring it out.... This song is simliar to "the stone" as far as structure goes. the verse is Riff then chord then riff then chord. The chorus is all chords. Well the problem is with the verse I have the riff but not the chord he hits between, i think its an F# but i'm not sure. And i don't have any of the chorus chords figured out. The riff is fairly simple here it is.
Note the Baritone tuning. However I just want the chords because i'm making an acoustic version of this. If you want to give the exact chords he plays tab them out or figure out what they really are instead of just the shape. Thanks

thanks, this is a good starting point. I should be able to mold the song into simple chords and one tabbed riff for everyone now. there have been like 4 people that have asked me for simple versions of this song. but i would say this tab you sent me is about 90% accurate. a little easier to play than the actual version. Dave likes making it hard on himself eh? but once you get used to his style all his songs come easily.

The tab on my page is 100% accurate to how Dave plays it(Baritone at least). The song is basic simple power chords except for a couple and the riff. Maybe I didn't understand you...oh well....at least it gave you a starting point....later man

Your riff 1 is incorrect.
And don't worry about tabbing DMB songs yourself. JKanter has 100% accurate tabs on his website. No doubt about it they are exactly as Dave plays the songs, even the fingers he has notated under the tab is the exact finger Dave uses to play each song.
Also, Dave doesn't use full chords in WYA as you have in the tab you posted.

There is an acoustic version of this song that i found on the internet, thats what i tabbed out. Jkanter does have the best dave tabs on the web. But i wouldn't go as far to say that they are all 100% true to the way dave plays them.

But i wouldn't go as far to say that they are all 100% true to the way dave plays them. Well, the acoustic version of Dave playing at that radio show is on a baritone guitar so either way you still have to transcribe the song to stanard tuning. In case you didn't know how, in order to convert a baritone tab to a standard tab....you either subtract 5 from each note(hence the bari 9onA becomes standard 5onD). You can also move each note up 1 string completly...BUT, if you are moving from the F#(2nd string) on a Bari to G on a Standard...you move it up that one string and DOWN 1 note. It's the same as moving that note down 5 frets....then moving it up a string(and therefore you move up 4 notes from B->G). So you may want to take that into account in order to redo that intro you have posted. Just giving ya a suggestion.....and you are right, not all of my tabs are 100% true to how Dave plays them. I do my best to get the 100% mark but it is hard as some video's aren't great and other reasons.....anyway, have a good one, peace

In the recording I have of Dave playing it alone he mutes out half the notes in the riff anyway and the high note on the b string is never heard and the riff is more like this
E:------------------------
B:------------------------
G:----6--4-------------
D:-4----------7--6-------
A:--------------------------
E:------------------------
the whole thing sounds to be palm muted with some notes actually being muted out altogether

I assure you that those chords are congruent with the acoustic version he plays. Play along with them, when i posted it in here it destroyed my spacing on the chords but you should still be able to play it. don't play open chords

I wasn't saying your chords were wrong...I was stating that the intro you had was wrong. The chords are correct but Dave only plays the chords 5-x-7-x-x-x....that is just an example....it's not full barre chords that's all. Your tab is correct in the matter of the notes and chords to play. What I had said was that the intro riff you had was off.
All good man....not trying to start a fight here or anything, I'm just trying to help you out(in the riff)....have a good one and keep on tabbing....peace

I haven't heard that acoustic version in a while but I do believe he usually plays the 7 on the B string because the intro is usually 6(or 7 if he plays that last note) notes long. Anyway...have a good one man....peace
