Ok, what exactly does the MD5 file do? do i really need it? (i know there are tons of threads about it, but these are the questions i have and they haven't been answered)

it checks the validity of the files you downloaded.
if you have mkw, then just double click on the md5 with the shns in the same folder and it will check the files

this is also nice if you ever download .iso of linux to make sure you are getting complete files

it just makes sure you download all the file and not part of it. they are fairly important as well when you do shn trades rather than audio trades.
