I bought this acoustic/electric cutaway guitar from a guy in the newspaper, he said it is a martin kit he put together(shenandoah??) it has grover tuners and the zigzag stripe like on the back of HD28's and some other little extras. He had another guitar he wasnt selling that he made and it was awesome when i played it. He also had a 900 series Taylor too. Anywhoo this guitar i bought is one of the best guitars ive ever played!
I also have a Martin DM and am i soon going to get an HD-28 or a lower end Taylor.
what would you get ?

250-350 for a nice beginner one like me. They can get really pricey though. If you are thinking about one look for a "kentucky" mandolin. They are about $300 and much better than the fender mandolins.

we have some very talented people here... i think it would be great if we could all decide on a few sonngs to cover as a community and pass it around.. like lay down a guitar part, then pass it on to a drummer, then pass it on to bass, then sax, violin etc.. and make a recoring like that. i think that would be awesome

that'd be cool... we'd have to start with the drummer, who'd have the hardest job. They'd have to run a dmb cut of song into a set of headphones and play against that, with their drums mic'd, amp'd, and recorded seperately. we'd all have to go by the same versions of the songs, but if we just use the studio ones (or even live releases) it should be pretty easy. not even software would be THAT big a problem.

the best order would probably be

Drums - rhythm guitar - vocals - bass - solo instruments (lead guitar, violin, sax, lute, ocarena, whatever)

and I'm calling bass right now. :p

WOW, JUST WOW!! i feel like such an ammature compared to all of you guy's. right now i'm learning guitar, i can play the piano a little bit...i used to play the violin and the flute. for now my main focus is learning guitar and what a chore this is!! i can only play bits and pieces of certain dave songs...i can play christmas song alright, it's nice and slow (good for a beginner). i can also play the one he did with santana (love of my life). i will eventually learn how to play my fave dave song...#41, oh yes i will learn that even if it kills me...i will play that song on my guitar before i die!!! anyway, i am certainly open to any advice you pros may have for me.

First, check dmbtabs.com if you haven't. Almost PERFECT tabs.
#41 is one of the easier songs I've learned...It sounds really good if you pick 5 on E, 3 on A, 2 on D, instead of just picking the 5E and then strumming. It sounds like the L@LC. GREAT song. I just have problems with slides and such...

I started wanting to play the drums. I never had the money to but a kit, so I basically taught myself to drum by using cardboard boxes and anything I found around my house. I then switched over to guitar about four years ago, which is what I mainly play now. I am going to eventually take up the violin (I love classical music) and maybe piano.

What I find interesting as well is the difference between what I write on piano and what I write on the guitar. So totally different. Anyone else write on two instruments find this? I'm going to try and write some piano to some of my songs I've written on guitar to see how well they mesh.

Hey,
Hi my name is Ken Evens, I have been looking to sell my custom MARTlN HD-28 and I saw that you were interested in Martins. I went to a local store and they said that they would only give me 650.00 for it. I believe the guitar brand new is worth around 1,950 (not really sure though). But I'm trying to get just 900.00 for it plus shipping cost. I dont want to have to sell it for 650.00 but if I have to I will. The guitar is a 2000 and it is in perfect condition. Contact me soon if you are interested or if you know of anyone else who is. And if you could, please respond to me even if you dont want it if you have any comments or advice. Thank you.

Best thing I can tell you to do is do what I did. Buy the Riff's book and then listen to everyone about a billion times and teach yourself the solo's. I taught myself the soprano sax solo during the jam in ants at folsom, its about 30 seconds long and it took me about 5-10 minutes to memorize and add all the glissando's, but its freaking sweet to play.

Wow, definitely a lot of talented people in the ants community... I myself play violin, classical guitar (nylon string), electric guitar and bass, played them all for several years now (8 on violin, 4 on guitar) so i suppose I might be one of those talented people. :p

I have to use a school-owned bass when i do play, due to me spending most of my money on a better electric guitar recently... Pretty nice bass for a school-owned instrument though - it's a 5 string Tune BassManiac, and only 1 other guy uses it. My school has some pretty nice pieces of music equipment, and my school isnt that upper class or anything; teachers with good taste i guess!
