What do u drummers think about drum mics ? waste of money unless ur playin big gigs or a good investment ?

I do professional sound for a theatre company..I think drum mics are only good if you have a large audience and the drums have to project over a long distance. In a small recording area, i don't believe its necessary

Agreed, I olnly use them when playing larger venues. I use the Sennheiser clip on mics for the toms, SM57 for snare and an AKG D112 for the kick. Works great and didn't cost me too much.

Drum mics are essential if you want a great sound at the front of the house. Most of the time you could get away with at least a bass mic and overheads. When the rest of the band gets loud you can only hear snare and cymbals. Get some mics on your bass and toms and your golden. You will stop sounding like a garage band and more like a pro band.
