Does anyone know of where I can shop for MD recorders, specifically ones made be Sharp?
The only place I can really find them is online and I'd like to check them out in person, plus shipping to my college is a hassle. I haven't seen them at regular electronics stores in my area.
Any ideas?

Is there any Best Buys or Circuit Cities near u? B/C that where i bought mine. But b4 i bought i used the company's websites so i could compare different models since i know employees at the above mentioned stores know absolutely nothing about MD-players. If i can add one other point, i would suggest the Sony:MZ-707 md-recorder. it comes with everything u need including the web features and also its not hugely expensive anymore.
Hope this helps,

My biggest concern about the Sony MD models is problem with adjusting levels on the fly. It used to be that it couldn't be done, you'd have to pause your recording to adjust the levels, and that's really piss poor for live recording situations. I thought I heard that Sony fixed that problem, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone know?
I bought my first Sharp MD-SR60 at Circuit City about 2 years ago. That little recorder has been dropped, stepped on, rained on, and across the country to record over 25 shows, and it still comes with me to every gig I tape. Problem is, I don't know that Circuit City carries MD anymore. I know that the Best Buy by me no longer carries Sharp MD recorders, only the Sony NetMDs, which are nice if you're just using it for a REAL MP3 portable, but awful if you're trying to use it for portable digital recording. And besides, sales people have no idea what MiniDisc is anyway. ("Um, we have like, mini CDRs, do you want that?") But definately check out your basic Best Buys and Circuit Cities, you might get lucky.

I went to every electronics store in my area yesterday (best buy, circuit city, cambridge soundworks, radioshack, compusa, even music stores) and none of them sold any minidisc recorder/players that weren't made by Sony.
I intend to record through a mic with whatever I buy and the newer Sony MD recorders don't even have a jack for input, they still don't allow you to adjust on the fly.
I found a Sharp SR-60 at amazon.com for less than $200 the other day, and I may have found someone who wants to sell there's at another message board.
Thanks for the help, if I do end up getting one I'll probably be back with other questions about what else to get for my rig.
P.S.- Hey scuba, your website has been really helpful, it's cool to see what exactly people put in their rig.

I bought a MD player/recorder a while back. its one of those Sony ones. in order to record on it though you need to buy a mic for it which i have yet to do. I was thinking about doing it but I am running low on cash cause of D+T.
