Wow! You dont wanna spend a lot but you wanna make sure to spend less than $1000? You can get some REALLY nice electrics for less thn $1000. Personally, I'm looking for a cheap one, too. But I'm looking for less than $250. That's cheap for an electric.
Don't forget how much cheaper electrics are than acoustics.

listen to some different ones to see what kind of sound you like......u may wanna go for the fender american strat......or you may find a gibson around that range that you like.

get an american strat, the cheapest one you can find, probably be like 650 bucks. or get a slightly better one for like 850. 50s trebly, 60s are mids, 70s are bassy. < yr. of the reissue.
u could get a les paul for like 900, but it wouldn't be THAT good, good lp's are more like 1300-1500. sg's for like 850 are solid, and thats the cheapest you'll find them. if your looking for a real distorted dark type tone, you probably want to go with the sg or lp... otherwise go for the american strat, they have the best clean of anyone and can be distorted.
lastly, listen to artists who play lp's VS strats before u go in, there is a HUGE difference in sound, know it before you start playing them... basically you can probably decide beforehand which type of guitar your going to try out.

It really depends on what sound you are looking for (ie, what bands you like, what genre of music you plan on playing). Listen to bands you like, find out what they play, and try those out in music stores. Obviously the two most popular are Fender Strats and Gibsons. I'm personally a Fender man, but try a bunch and see what you like.

also.....keep in mind its cheaper to be a fender fan......that affected my electric choices a bit.

Hey if anybody here is looking for a Fender, I'm selling my Japanese Floyd Rose Strat (with splittable bridge humbucker) so I can buy another acoustic. It's in near mint condition and sounds amazing. Let me know if you're interested. BJ bjfrid@hotmail.com

Nice first post. But I have a feeling if he's willing to spend $1000 he might want a bit more than a squier strat.

Yea. I used the tab from dmbtabs.com and my guitar is a Takamine EG530SC. I recorded it using a digital Labtec mic plugged into my USB port recorded with Cool Edit.

When it comes to electrics, I don't know if there is much of a difference. It really depends on how much you wanna spend. But really, just find yourself a price range, go to www.musiciansfriend.com or www.music123.com and look at all the amps in that price range. Then compare them and find which one is best for your needs.
