since you can't tailgate in the parking lot...unless the new owners changed the rule...we'll be grillin' on the side road that leads from Polaris Parkway into the parking lot. more details will be posted once I find out when the parking lot opens. as of right now, i would say that we're gonna be there 2-3 hours before the lot opens so we can get some fine cookin in.

peace!

Is tailgating allowed in your parking lot?
If your definition of "tailgating" is drinking alcoholic beverages, then it is not allowed by Ohio law. The law does not allow open containers of alcohol or consumption in public areas. Agents with the Ohio Department of Liquor Control patrol the amphitheater parking lots and issue citations or make arrests for violations on their own accord. Guests using grills or having picnics in the parking area create a safety concern and disrupt foot and auto traffic flow.

That's taken from the Polaris website. That "law" stuff is bullshit. For Ohio State football we drink wherever the hell we want, and the cops don't mess with anyone. It also says that the parking lot opens 2 hours before show time, so you might want to get there earlier than 2 hours for a cook out. Just a heads up, and I've never noticed a cook out slowing down traffic in the lot, what are people doing, setting up their grills in the middle of the road, give me a break.

We'll find somewhere I'm sure.

Maybe the people at OSU games probably just don't give to shits, so they let it go. Then again, there are riots after you beat UM :lol

As for cooking at Polaris, here's what we did at the two shows last year. We got there about two hours before the lot opened. So for a 7pm show when the lots opens at 5, we got there at three. Since they don't let you enter teh lot, you wind up just staying parked on the little road leading from the main road into the lot. People all hang out there and play frisbee, hack, and the hungry ones cook out. There's no grilling in the lot, so we grill on the road, which becomes a remporary parking lot before teh actual lot opens...if that makes any sense.

Hopefully that cleared a little up.

just make sure the cup isn't clear...i met a kid last summer who was drinking under the age and the cops busted him and gave him a nice little court appearance date, lol

what i think i might do is just bring some coke cans and convert the beer over. i just think it might not be worth the effort of transferring the liquids

Great idea, I'll do that too.

Hey, I remembered you said you were going to Jason Mraz at Headliners, do you have taping equipment or know someone that does? I would like to get that show taped if we can. If you don't know anyone I might look into getting some taping equipment, or something I can use.

Unfortunately, I have no taping equipment. I know people with minidisc recorders, but that's about the extent of any taping "equipment" I would have access too. I myself would love to get a copy of the show if possible.

This thread won't be vindicated until someone from the Ants.org Staff posts a message in it. Don't ask me where this came from, but I all of a sudden realized this. Hopefully our first post from an Ants Staff member won't be the last one by way of a lock down. I think we don't have to worry about that, seeing a how we all get along just fine in here. We'll just have to wait and see though.

Someone needs to start a countdown to Polaris...I'm too lazy to do it right now, either that or my eyelids are just too far shut to worry aboot that right not. (Yes, I know I put aboot)

EDIT: 67 days intil Polaris (not including today, 4.11)

I'll help out a bit, nothing much has been going on here, I have to go to the dentist then I go help a friend move, a little dinner thing then its D-Day for my liver, my friends dad is coming to claim a bunch of stuff after he ran out on his wife and son. so its a little bit of a goal to drink as much expensive liquor as we can, 6 guys plus a pretty much endless supply of top shelf liquor. Haha only good things will come. Take it easy

I'll add a little story here to keep the guys in the polaris thread entertained.

The Scioto River flows at a fairly leisurely pace during the summer, before any big rains have flooded it. There are a few places that my friends I found to sit back and enjoy the calm and serene beauty that the river holds. During the summer it is nice and warm and looks pretty inviting, well at least it seems to beckon to you. It was during one day in July thinking of things to do my friend Heath came about with the idea we should raft it.
After a quick run to Wal-Mart, we were equipped with the supplies for our adventure. We bought two one-person $9.99 rafts and a set of paddles. The launch point was scouted and the take out point was located and marked. Using a stick and a ribbon found on riverside drive. After driving the run we had determined it to be around a 3-hour journey. The rafts were inflated and a launch time was set. The afternoon was chosen because it had already become too late to leave that day.

Mongoose
04-17-2003, 03:48 PM
The morning arrived and the sun shined through a little set of clouds high in the sky. Cars were left at the put in and the take out, the keys were dropped in the cooler to be safe and we climbed down the steep hill to the river below the dam. Despite the tumbles on the way down all were safe and the trip began. The Rafts floated well, less than effortlessly down the river. All in all it was a perfect day, the sun was shining it was a balmy 85 and the river was warm and surprising not too dirty. It was about 2 feet deep and you were able to see most of the life beneath you. Fish that swam by in schools, the occasional turtle on the banks, it was a very scenic trip. We talked and drank from the cooler, as the floated calmly down the river. After the cooler was emptied of certain fermented beverages. I deemed it necessary to empty the ice into the river, and in one swift motion of my arms out it went. Keys and all, as soon as I threw out the ice I remembered the keys and dived out of my raft in a futile attempt to secure the keys to our ride home. After about twenty minutes of searching, hope was no longer an option as our keys were abandoned and we floated on, the keys on the other hand did not join us though the rest of the day.
There wasn’t much said after I threw away both sets of keys. I tried to make small talk avoiding the fact I had lost one of two keys my friend had to his car and the fact we had no phone and no one to call. After about an hour, and a few ranting arguments later, we were back on good grounds with each other. We arrived at the take out point, and found a small woman in her forties who was willing to let us use her phone to try to a ride. After a few minutes of trying to get someone, anyone to pick up our sunburnt and wet bodies. My grandma found it in her heart to come and pick us up. We got our extra sets of keys and picked up our cars. For the next days, it slowly grew as a joke and as a story to tell. By the end of the week, it came to be realized that those were two of the most memorable days of the summer. That some things end up becoming more beneficiary then thought a short time ago, and if all goes sour all you can do is make the best of what’s around.

I wouldn't say the Ducks got all the breaks, but they got almost every bounce. The only one they didn't get was Federov's centering attempt that went of Giguere and in to tie it in the 3rd period.

I love pointless posts like one. Playing Catch Up.

I heard something about them possibly moving the ampitheatre. Not really "moving" Polaris, but moving the ampitheatre further into Delaware County. How is the traffic?

Well... welcome to Ants! As far as the show goes, your pre-show plans BETTER include the AntsMarching summer tour kick-off BBQ:) I'm not too sure what's going after the show. Traffic will only be a problem if you plan to arrive at Polaris during rush hour.

assuming that the parking lot still opens 2 hours prior to the gates of the amphitheater, we'll probably begin cooking out 4 hours before they doors are scheduled to open. that will give us 2 good hours of cooking while we're parked on the road leading into the lot.

I can't even begin to imagine what might be the opener. All I know is that I'll be five rows back enjoying the show, and if I can get a ticket for a special someone then it would make the night that much better but it's probably not going to happen.

Anyway, I'm doing my best to keep this at the top even though I'm not much of a regular.

For the KOCO we should make a list or a sign up of stuff to bring so we dont have 5 grills and 0 other things, just a idea.

KOCO is the Kick off cook out. Its gonna be happening on the road leading to the parking lot at Polaris, since they don't allow tailgating. Have to get there early.

so when and where are we meeting...who's bringing what...ect ect

anyone going to bring their guitars to jam?

Mongoose
04-21-2003, 07:00 PM
We dont have a real definate time frame yet but in general I would say a 1:30 or 2:00 before the gates to the parking lot open. I had thought about bringing my guitar, who knows. Do you play?

The J2H
04-21-2003, 07:19 PM
Alright...I'm so glad someone thought of making a list for the KOCO. Before we make a list, let's just wee what everyone has available to bring. Plus, depending on how many people we have planning on coming, we'll determine what we need to bring. Either way, I'm probably buying a new little travel grill since I'm doing a lot of travelling this summer. Also list how many people you have coming.

As of right now, looks like there will be 7 in my group.

Also, what does everyone want to cook. I know some people who make some pretty mean marinades for steak and whatnot.

Finally, I must say it's a proud proud day for me to see us climb above the Alpine thread finally. We had the lead in the beginning, and now it is ours once more. Let's not lose it this time!!!

Peace out!

I play a little...I try. My brother who will be w/ me can jam.

I think we might have one of those camping grills at home. That would save you from buying one but the more grills the better....

I'm willing to bet that only some people can bring grills. So perhaps the best would be to have some people bring grills, and those who can't bring grills bring the items to be grilled. I'm not sure. I'm gonna start making a list of how many people to expect. I think I'm gonna make a huge banner or something, so that everyone knows where the KOCO is going down. Let me know what you all think.

it wasn't any problem last year. i just need to find out exactly which road we were on last year. if i recall correctly, there are three entrances from polaris parkway into the parking lot. i want to say we were on the second one last year, and there were people all around cooking, drinking, whatever... i like the idea of having the KOCO at your hotel, but first year i went to polaris, we were running late and the traffic sucked pretty bad. that would be my only worry. i'm on the lawn as well, so i want to make sure i get my usual spot at frint and center

Hey man~

I will definitely jam with you. We'll do a sweet rendidtion of LIOG! If I have enough to drink, I also like to sing, so maybe this will turn into a cookout concert! My personal favs to play include LIOG, Grey Street, I really like doing the old-school Bartender >> DDTW, Halloween, Ants (it's really easy, should only take you a few minutes to learn it), The Stone (although I cannot sing along for the life of me!), #40, #41... wow, I seem to be rambling! Okay, so I lve playing them all! I just learned Stay or Leave the other day, and it is a blast to play!

I've got a kick ass lil Thermos travel grill that has the George Foreman like griddles that uses 1lb propane tanks.
And I'll be going by myself but might have my lil cousin stop by.

As far as my seat though, I still can't get over my luck so I'll post again that I'm 5th row just right of center. Columbus has been very good for me b/c I picked up a 20th row center ticket a month before the first night. And I barely made it in time b/c of traffic so I'm all about getting there early.
