WaterInTheSky

only a retard would complain about the one-song encore. look how long that main set is. just take too much and insert in the first-slot of the encore. even without too much the main set is really long.
now, if you were actually at the show, a one-song encore might be a little bit disappointing, but not much after that show.

most venue's have an 11:00 cut off time for every band. curfew, noise ordinances, etc.
that is why.
not because they get from 7-11 and after that they aren't supposed to be there at all.
it's pretty standard practice for most venues, sorry i don't have any documentage of it.

jason's right. they got fined at FF for that.
it's because it's an outdoor venue. other people can hear the commotion of the concert. that's why. at indoor venues, you can't really hear what's going on inside if you're outside. and it's the cities that put these regulations into place. the city governments pass laws so they can get more money any way possible.

If you've been to any of the past few shows, you probably noticed that the band have been playing some of the older songs a bit differently. This has been completely unplanned and unrehearsed. They've obviously been having fun turning the songs on their ends. Tonight's Jimi Thing and Recently stand out. Load-out is going on right now. We're working our way into a day off tomorrow. See y'all in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

ehhhhh......my section was NOT feeling this show. the energy was pretty low...i don't know. jimi thing on 06.21 was killer. this one was good, but damn! i don't think his energy was as high. it was definitely worth the road trip etc. for my friend's b-day. plus she had never sat in the pavilion before, so 22nd row wasn't that bad! :)
anyway, what took so long for the encore to start? and then just one song? at first i thought it was because it was late, but then i looked at my clock and realized they could have sucked up a small fine and played two songs. or taken a shorter break. was it because his g string broke during too much? i realized they didn't fix it for the encore....

Actually they did fix it for the encore, he just broke it in the last verse to billies, it was the B string this time tho..i found it pretty funny he broke a string in the last 2 songs. But it was because of the 11:00 curfew that they cut it short..just sucks tho cause they took such a long encore break, if they cut that down they prolly coulda done 2 songs. oh well tho, i had the best time ever at this show, hands down the best show ive been to this far!

oh okay....see, i thought i just wasn't paying attention because i didn't see it broken at the beginning of the song, but then the next time i noticed, it was still dangling from his guitar. and the chick behind me said something about that's why they quit. and i was thinking to myself, seriously?! dave has like 6 guitars back there. but i trusted her judgment. oh well. i guess that just shows that he was having a good time jamming!
thanks for clearing that up for me. glad you had a great night! :)

:lol give up my 10th row seat for the rain. It was great to see actual faces w/o relying on the big screen! and see the crazy foot stomping by Dave.
I have been in the lawn plenty of times to know how it feels.

Thanks, I tried....I am reposting my review here for anyone interested:
Just got back from an amazing show, night 2 at Polaris. My 17th DMB show was unbelievable from the 2nd row, dead center, so here are some song notes about everything you could want to know, and my thoughts:
Onstage: 8:20
ANTS: Direct intro, with the scales on guitar and bass like Red Rocks. Very jammed out, incredible energy. Ants should be played as an opener more because it really got things kicking. Boyd got so into his solo that his hat fell off and went off the front of the stage, and his monitor cord came unplugged. Needless to say, great start.
RHYME: I knew this was coming, and since I have heard it at almost every show of late, I wasn't looking forward to it. This version really blew my mind though. Dave was VERY into it. It is clear that the reason they play this song so much is just that Dave loves it, and they played the hell out of it.
THING: Transitioned right from the end of Rhyme. Dave uses a capo on this one. This sounded best of the new songs, and was UNBELIEVABLE. Dave completely reworked the lyrics and sang about rain (as it was pouring down rain and the people on the lawn were soaked). Great iprov lyrics were a testament to Dave's talent. "Let your clothes get soaked. If they get too heavy, just let them drop on off." Something like that. Best version I have heard by far.
DDTW: Standard, good version. No prelude, but some good Dave screaming at the end. Always a good, high energy song.
HELLO AGAIN: This song is really developing nicely, and has grown a lot from the 6.17 mp3 I have. Very intense vocals towards the end. Crowd seemed into it.
WWYS: Standard. Great jam.
NANCIES: When Dave first started, he was kind of wandering around the stage, and I thought it might obe just a tease. Thankfully, it played out into a great rendition. The intro was not exactly the Drunk Man intro, but was a sort or countermelodic ramble with some "don't you ever wonder"s in it. Very cool. Changed up a few lyrics after "parking lot attendant", but couldn't make them out for sure. Boyd was, as always, off the hook.
SUGAR WILL: Kind of a crowd killer, but after Nancies we needed a break. I really like the guitar groove of this song, but it needs by far the most work of the new songs. As is, the solo section at the end of the song just comes off as too long and boring. Still lots of potential. Dave was making some hilarious facial expressions, though, and pretended to fall asleep at one point. He continues to crack me up.
WAYG: Standard as always, but a crowd pleaser.
RECENTLY: Great. No intros, went right into the song. The middle jam was very unique. Had a lot of shifts in volume...took it from way down and then way back up and down and up again. Seemed very unplanned. Probably nothing like the 6.21 version. Not quite as intense, but very smooth. Dave also added some improv vocals in the jam. Did the Pretty, Pretty Girl outro, and threw in one "Take me to the River".
JIMI THING: Holy mother of God. This is quite possibly the single best song performance I have ever seen. Boyd and Roi both tore up their solos. Roi took a few seconds to get into his (it was like he wasn't happy with the reed on his sax, at first), but once he got it going it was perfect. Then dave soloed, very different than other guitar solos I have heard him play on Jimi. And then...I cannot even begin to do Dave's scat outro justice. It went beyond anything I had ever heard. Period. Unbelievable mix of real and made up words, sounds, and rhythms. Probably went on for 3-5 minutes, with numerous different sections within the scat. There was a section where he went back and forth with Butch, then another section where Carter would play a drum riff and Dave would do a precussion-sounding scat. Climaxed with some "pow"s. Definitely download this song, but even that won't do it justice, because I have never seen Dave so animated on a song. His arms were working all over the place, he was dancing his ass off, his face was glorious. Had to be there to experience this. The whole band was having a blast.
JOY RIDE: Tough to follow that Jimi Thing, but this song is rocking. Crowd loved it. The band is playing it very well by this point in the tour. Probably my favorite of the new songs...very polished.
IF I HAD IT ALL: Only Everyday song of the night, and it was great. Actually far more intense than I remembered it. Dave seems to love performing this, and it came through in the energy.
DRIVE IN, DRIVE OUT: Great to hear this one. With the exception of the first verse, Dave improvised almost all of the lyrics. Hilarious and haunting all at once. There were some great lines, I wish I could remember them all. One was "People try and tell me what to do. I'll just close my eyes and do what the fuck I want."
CRAZY-EASY: Like Joy Ride, this one is sounding very polished. Smooth and grooved. Standard, but I loved it.
SMTS-->ASTB-->TOO MUCH: Fairly standard versions, but pretty rare and fun way to end the set. I kind of knew this might be coming, because I think it has been a couple years since they have gone a 2 night stand w/out playing SMTS. The bridge was, as always, jamming. Dave broke a dtring on his guitar towards the middle of Too Much, but it didn't matter because by this point, the entire crowd was energized to a max.
Offstage: Around 10:40. Germain's rules say that the band has to bee off by 11, due to surrounding communities. So I knew time was running short. The main wet had been considerably longer than previous shows this tour. They took a very short encore break and came back on for...
BILLIES: I have always said that getting a one song encore would be a real downer, but I don't think many people left disappointed. Nature intro on guitar only. Billies overall was intense, and Boyd is THE MAN. Dave was so into it that he broke ANOTHER string. (Two songs in a row, has to be some sort of DMB record).
Left the stage at around 10:56, with Dave throwing a few picks to the crowd and Stefan leaping around the stage like a little boy. Carter came back out after less than a minute disributed a pair of drumsticks to some lucky fans.
Overall: Phenomenal show. Great mix of classic (and I mean classic -- Ants, Nancies, Jimi, Billies) jams and punch new songs. The entire band, and Dave in particular, seemed to be having the time of their lives on stage. Dave looked as excited as ever. The energy was high from start to finish.
Dave did several teases throughout the night. One notable one occurred right before Jimi Thing, and seemed to be a couple of lines from the improv song from 6.17. I am not 100% sure if it was the same song, but seemed like it. He did something like this at another point earlier in the show as well. Very cool. Hope you all found this helpful / informative.
P.S. -- I don't believe there was a Two Step tease, as some people have suggested. Dave did a lot of little riffs on his guitar, but none sounded like Two Step.

I was sitting right next to the camera guy, and he was talking to the security guard (who is also a huge dmb fan). He said that they were seriously considering using footage from night 2 for some sort of release. Hopefully it will be from Jimi Thing because that possibly was the best 20 minutes of my life.

This was a great show, no doubt about that :), but I have a bone to pick! I park my car and the first thing I do is pop the tailgate to my Jeep to get a coat and some other shit, and not two seconds later two cops roll up in a golf cart telling me to shut my tailgate cuz there is no tailgateing! "Fine, I understand that, but I'm not tailgaiting officer." So they still give me shit and don't leave till I close my tailgate. WOW! Ok, so I walk up to the line to get into the venue, and the guy that is patting me down asks me for my keys. He tells me I can't take my DMB warehouse carabeaner inside cuz I might use it as brass knuckles. I tell him "Man, it says DMB on it, are you serious?!" Ok, whatever no big deal. Start walking back to my car to put it there and I get stopped by security. They wouldn't let me walk back to my car because they thought I was going to go tailgate!. I tell them about to beaner and they f-ing laughed at me! Are you serious! So I had to through the damn thing away, can you believe that! Its not about the money or the stupid keychain, its the damn irony!! :) No more germain shows for me, hello Starlake!

I also was told that I had to either throw mine away or I could hide it in the flowers right outside the gates and find it after the show. I took it back to the car, but I just can't believe they told me I couldn't take it in. I know they do that for our safety, but sometimes I just feel all these security precautions are just insane.
The show made up for everything though.

as a member of the concert security workforce, i thought i'd shed a little more light on the curfew discussion.
like someone said, most venues have an 11pm curfew. after that, bands have to pay a seriously rediculous fine for each MINUTE they over play. the reason for that is not only do to noise to the surrounding community, but for every minute they overplay, that's one more minute the venue has to pay each person who is working the show...that's one more minute the police have to stick around to deal with drunks, traffic, etc... basically, a band that plays past curfew is not only paying a fine for breaking a contract, but they are also in turn paying every employee associated with the venue overtime.
anyways, if the only bad thing people can say about night two is that there was only a one-song encore, i'd call the show a damn good success. no complaints about either night here.

I saw the night 2 Columbus show as well as Blossom show last night. The band sounded great both nights, but the energy at Blossom didn't even compare to the energy at Columbus. Last night, I couldn't believe all the people sitting and having conversations about everything but the show! I think perhaps the reason I am dissapointed with the Blossom crowd is that I sat out in the lawn and was in the pavilion (18th row!) for Columbus. Last night was a bit of a letdown after Cols. night 2. Don't get me wrong though, it was a good show. But nothing compared to Cols. night 2. I understand why Blossom is only a one night stand and can't imagine it ever being 2.

What was really cool about last night is that it was the FIRST concert may sister (27 she's never gone to a concert! CRAZINESS!) went to and she loved it. I was really glad to see that she had a good time and really got into the show.

I was 6th row night 2 in Columbus and 4th row at Blossom... as far as the pavilion goes, Blossom's crowd was better. It was deafening in there! Even the DMB Road crew said: "the crowd at Blossom Music Center was on fire!" I cannot speak for the lawn though. The band was much more into the show at Blossom, and in 35 shows, I have never seen them interact with the crowd the way they did last night.

That could be true about the crowd at Blossom. In Columbus defense, it is tough to be loud at shows two nights in a row, but I know the lawn was going crazy. It was a hot/humid night 2.

the crowd was better in my opinion. this is only because i was not surrounded by millions of drunk 14 year olds falling all over me at blossom as i was at polaris nite 2. however, it all depends on where you were at blossom because the lawn was full of drunk kids as well.

6-23-04 was my first dmb show! Polaris was awesome! Where was everyone sitting? I was sitting dead center in the pavilion seats. Great place except for some loser who decided to start beating on his girfriend right in the middle of the show!!! Dave didn't speak much that night did he? Someone said he kept saying thanks and congratulations but...I must have missed that. And the thing I really noticed is how much the atmosphere changed when it got dark. That was amazing. :thumbsup can't wait for next year

yes! I openly state my dmb-aholic-ism :lol By the way, has anyone seen that dmb billboard in Columbus? My brother and i saw it on the way to the concert. It was so great! It was off of an exit, not sure which. We stopped off for food but they could have more in other places.

It was off of an exit, not sure which. We stopped off for food but they could have more in other places. There must have been at least two billboards up then b/c there was one right on James Rd that I passed whenever I was coming home from the Easton area. It was great getting to the boys. :)
Everytime I drove by it, I was like "'grrrrrr' I am not going. There is no need to remind me!" When I tried to get tix to months prior, there were only crappy pavilions up for grabs, and decided to pass. On 6/23 I managed to get a seat in the 18th row of Section A for 6/24! Talk about being one VERY, VERY happy girl! :bounce and what a good, good time it was! Rain and all

There is certainly some tease going on before Recently (after Where are you going?)
I think that is the some devil the almanac is stating.
There was a load roar from the crowd during the tease. People were thinking two step, I was hoping Seek Up

I am assuming you are asking about Cinci last night...if not, please disregard this. It was AMAZING. I didn't think C'bus night 2 could be topped, but it was last night. I had a really, really good time. I think Ohio has been treated very, very well this tour.

Hello folks. I'm from Columbus and new to the boards. I was wondering if someone could seed the 6/24 Germain show over at bt.etree.org. I managed to snatch 65% of that show, but the seeder pulled out before I could finish it. I was at both shows and actually liked 6/23 better, but I'd like to have both shows on disc. The energy the second night was great, probably because of the rain and "best hits" sort of setlist.
Many thanks. And pepe29, I live in Harrison West (near Victorian Village).
