download a server program ... G6, serv-u, bulletproof, etc

you will need to do some initial server setup of settings (i.e. autoban, accounts, etc)

if you have a router you will have to set that up too. forward your ports.

are you serving for the public, private server or just for yourself?

you should determine your upload bandwidth and then set the max # of logins to an appropriate amount. you can figure this out by uploading to a server and seeing what you max out at. if your on cable modem most likely your capped somewhere around 40 kbps (not definatly though).

for example, with 40 kbps upload capability i would set up a max of 2 logins, so then if there is 2 people logged on they are splitting the 40 kbps and getting around 20 each. if you set the max too high people are going to be downloading very slowly.

also with this, if you can only allow 2 logins at a time make sure you turn on autoban for the people who hammer or try to connect too quickly.

personally i use serv-u. a lot of others like war ftp or bulletproof, i think G6 is bulletproof.

you can send me a private message if you need more specific help and then we can talk on IM or something.
