View Full Version : Newsgroup Downloading Help

Okay, I have Xnews and have gotten as far as where I have gotten into the alt.binaries.music.dmb.shn, and it has downloaded all the files. I wanted to downlaod 3.19.03 and I see a bunch of files for it but I dont know what to download. There are a whole bunch of one track. do I have to go and find each individual track and the md5 file and then download them?

Okay, I read the FAQ and got rid opf Xnews and got grabit, I typed in the servername(i had to use giganews) and it says there is an "error retrieving group list: 480 authentication required" so Iwent to server properties and put in my account name and password and it still comes up

you didn't need to get rid of xnews. Your problem lies in not hitting the T button to put all the files into "threads". (If that's what they call them).

6) After that completes you'll want to click on the "T" button on the bottom of the screen(it should be "depressed"). This threads all of the parts of a file into one header, making it MUCH easier to download. Basically when a SHN is posted to usenet it's uploaded as a series of message (1/130, 2/130, 3/130, etc), Threading them will tell XNews to show one header per file.
