I don't mean to be trying to tell the verterans what to do, but have you all ever thought about getting an IRC server?
MyDownloader.com and Packetnews.com, have made searching IRC easy...just a thought.

To host shows?
Thats one of the first ways DMB shows were ever shared on the internet. James, one of the admins here at AM.org, use to run a website and irc channel for dmb shows and serve.
We have moved on to greater and better things now.

wow. like the http server, ftp servers, ants downloader, DC, and BT aren't enough/provide enough problems for ppl to answer... imagine, just imagine trying to teach noobs how to use IRC... :lol fserves, (x)dcc transfers... sheesh. i remeber IRC channels back in the day, but i think the way it is now we have enough options. good suggestion though, not trying to knock you at all, i just groaned when imagining how hard it'd be to explain IRC to ppl, that's all.

not plausable.. too many problems... like Krugger said... teaching it to people would drive us nuts..

I will admit though, irc has one of the best features: queueing.

yea, direct connect does queue. its not as clear as with irc tho imo, like you cant find out how long the wait will be, how many ppl are ahead of you, what theyre getting, what speed theyre getting.

ah i gotcha... wel I still think we have to anwser enough with DC, further, FTP, HTTP, yo mama, damn dot, etc etc etc

It wouldn't be that hard to teach the noobs how to use it, and it could be more of a just for people who know how type thing. Like www.packetnews.com, and www.mydownloader.com, they make it so that you can search for things on IRC, and if you click the links they set up, not only does it open IRC for you, connect to the right server and channel, it puts the lcommand line you need to type into your clipboard. It's really easy.
yes but i garatnee you that we would have 1,000 posts askign why the download hasnt started if they get put into a queue...
plus we wouldnt be able to implement it into our security measures here at this site...
it would just be too much of a hassle

well, NGs, DC, Torrent, and all the other methods arent implimented into the site. Maybe we can get an FAQ written anyway, just for referance, and then people can create their own IRC chanell for swapping it? I rarely see any questions about NGs, and ive seen practicaly none about DC, and theyre advertised and used around here...
... just playing devils advocate ;)
well if somebody wanted to set one up and run it and advertise it here im sure nobody would say anything about it...
but ants wont run one like we run FTP, HTTP, and DC

We want to integrate it with the site so it will encourage fan interaction. The way it was setup didn't do that.
