I'm going to be looking to buy a new guitar finally, after a year of playing my POS Carlos Robelli junker. Does anyone have any advice on something decent for $600-800. I just need a starting point to look....

i bought a larrivee d-03 last week for about 700.....its unbelievable. u could also check out the seagull artist series guitars. the taylor 310 is a bit out of ur range, and if i were you i wouldnt consider getting any martins in that range.
Go to guitar stores, put on a blindfold, and have the dudes put every guitar in your price range in your hands for you to play. Whatever feels and sounds the best, take off the blindfold and be surprised. Nobody can tell you what you'll like, so it's up to you to find it!

Right now I'm lookin at the Martin DCX1E....played it at Guitar Center today and sounds pretty nice (to me at least), and found it online for $550 as opposed to the $950 Martin list price. Anyone have any input on that model?

For 6-800 bills you should definately get an ALL solid wood guitar. I'm in the exact same situation as you and I have narrowed my choices down to Tacoma and Larrivee. All the guitars they make are all solid woods, no laminates.
I'm sure you know this, but if not, an all solid wood guitar improves its sound with age, while a laminate will not.
You could get a Larrivee D-03 for @ $700 new in a store, or around 5-600 on eBay. I prefer the rosewood model, which is slightly more expensive.
I'm pretty sure I am going to go with Larrivee, just not sure what model Dreadnought I want.

really? i played the d-03R and the d-03 a lot before i bought one and luckily i liked the d-03 more so it saved me like $150....but going into it i thought i would like the rosewood model more and i really couldnt understand it.....so i asked the guy in the store...and he said part of why i like their mahogany model better is that the quality of their mahogany is higher than the quality of their rosewood.....at least in the 03 series.......maybe im just a mahogany kinda guy.
.....and i really disliked the sound of all the tacomas i tried
I love my recently purchased seagull artist mahogany spruce.
try it out if you can though...like it was mentioned, try to play before you buy.
