I just got a new sony, with xp, now when i d/l songs in shn format they dont have an icon, there icon looks like a program and i cannot change the program to open with. They do play in winamp. When i try to drag them to MKW i get an error message saying something with shn.dll. is this an xp problem? Does anyone know a solution?

did you run the md5's to make sure the shn's were vaild and didn't have errors?
did you install the run time libraries?

check etree's shn page.
if you find the folder MkW is installed in, right-click on the .exe. choose properties. choose "run in win2000 mode"
i think that is right. i will see if i can find the page.
edit: i was right. here is what is on etree
If you are running under Windows XP then you should follow these further directions:
If you simply want to convert shn>wav mkwACT will run fine on XP right out of the box.
However, if you want to encode .wav>.shn (w/ seeking as .skt files or appended) it becomes a bit trickier ,(it will also encode from .wav>.shn w/o any seeking fine.... but that suck's ; ).
XP comes w/ a backwards compatibility option.
To run mkwACT in Windows XP, change the compatibility mode for mkwACT to "Windows 2000" by:
* Right-click on the link to mkwACT in the start menu or desktop
* Click properties
* Click the Compatibility tab
* Click the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
* In the pulldown menu, choose "Windows 2000"
*Apply the change

The .skt is the seek table, to make the SHN seekable. You can configure MKW to:
1. keep them separate
2. add them to the file
3. not make them
I usually use that 2nd option myself...seekable is so nice.
