View Full Version : Problems downloading

I downloaded the ants downloaded and everything and it works fine on my cable modem. I get like 50k most of the time. The only problem is that it just stops downloading every 10-20 minutes so I have to close it out then restart it all the time. It took me about a week to download one show. Is there settings that I should change or is this something that happens to everyone?
Thanks
Brett

do speeds just gradually decrease to 0?
i'm pretty sure there are some settings in version 1.3 that you can play with.

No it doesnt give me any errors or anything. It doesnt even gradually decrease to zero. It says im still downloading at 50k or something but the bar will just stop and not move at all even after a few hours. I check the file size and it also stays the same. This happens every 10-20 minutes of downloading. Im running windows XP. Has anyone else had any problems like this????
Thanks

hmm very weird. maybe increase the timeout settings?
actually not sure about XP, but in 98 you could do a netstat command to see who you were connected to just to check the connection

I increased the timeout settings to 2000 seconds but it is still doing it. I cant believe im the only one out there with a problem like this.......

right. thats what i'm thinking.
can you get to a dos window in xp? if so start downloading via ants downloader and do a netstat -a command through dos. see if the connection is there. also when you notice nothing happening do the netstat -a command again and see if its still connected. maybe for some reason your speeds drop really low and it disconnects you for some reason?

damn new editing rules ...
also try downloading from a ftp server or something. see if you own net connection drops or something. i know i have had problems with my newsgroups where all of a sudden it stops downloading, something like the connection drops out for 30 seconds or so.

same thing happening to me also....every 10-20 minutes it will stop, but I am getting the same error
"Download Failed. Retry attempt 1 of 10
Download Failed. Retry attempt 2 of 10
A System Error has occured!
The operation completed successfully.
Finished!!!"
and it only goes up to 2 attempts and nothing ever happens after that...and that happens every 10-20 minutes

well your problem seems alot like me with the stopping after 10-20 minutes and all, but i dont actually get an error message or anything so im not sure if our problems are related at all. Im at my parents house now for a couple weeks so im gonna try the ants downloader here and see what happens.

I've been getting a problem lately where the ants downloader closes, and the message comes up "This program has performed an illegal operation, blablabla", and then I have to restart the computer. Any ideas about why this happens, or how I can fix it?

see now, the blablabla is what we need to know to help you :)
if you're running win98 or ME, and the error msg is something like:
ANTSDOWNLOADER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0187:bff7d76b.
with a bunch of junk after it, see this thread link (http://www.antsmarching.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59459)
there are a few posts by me and a few others in there that explain what this error msg means, and a few possible ways to fix it. if that is your problem try the fixes there, and if you need more help just reply to that thread, at least to keep your problem seperate from this one.
if your error msg is different start a new thread in this forum explaining your problem and what OS you run etc.

Haha, thanks a lot for your help. I'm pretty sure that's what it says after the 'illegal operation'. I'll check out the other thread to figure it out.

These all sound like different problems. But back to the original post here, I have the exact same problem as Phish0742. The Downloader will be trucking along just fine for about 20 minutes and then stop, no error message, no nothing. It even still reads the speed it was downloading at when it stopped. So... maybe someone can help with a little more troubleshooting here? I'd appriciate anything...
BTW, for what it's worth here are some specs on my machine:
Windows 2000 Professional
AMD Athlon 1.4 Ghz processor
768 Mb SDRAM
Cable Modem
ZoneAlarm firewall (Locks internet when the screensaver comes on, but I gave the Downloader pass lock privilege just like AIM and KaZaA [just examples, please no KaZaA ethics debates])
Anyway, like I said, any ideas at all are appreciated. Thanks.
