Recomendations for advancing my playing??

What is a good learning tool for guitar? Any recomendations of dvd's/videos, books, websites...? I know a bunch of chords (some barre chords), but I would like to learn more on scales and barre chords in particular. Also, I have no clue about alternative tunings, so that info would be good too.
