Seeing as this is the way to get a lot of shows, I'd like to get this program working corrently. Everytime that I use it, it ends up freezing up either my mouse or entire computer causing me to have to shut it down. I have NEVER completely finished a download without it freezing up. I'm on a home network with DSL connection. Any advice?

I've been to www.sharingthegroove.org but I'll go there again and see if I can get help. As far as direct connect, I've been too lazy to figure it all out. Maybe I will now. It's good to know that I'm not the only one that has problems with torrent. Thanks for the response.

that is because BT sucks.
my advice is to use the ants downloader. there are over 500 shows online here.
stupid 2 min edit rule.
the speeds are also a shitload better here than on BT. i was downloading a few minutes ago at 220k/sec. BT would need a lot of open windows to get that kind of speed

I'm not just talking about DMB shows. There are many I'd like to get from other bands that are on BT.

without debating BT vs Ants;
BT takes up huge amounts of cpu/memory quite a bit of the time. especially when you restart/resume a download
if the original program doesn't work, try the beta version of BT++
they're both unstable clients but it seems to either work or not work. also i've heard if you empty out your windows temporary files and IE temp files it can help.

i run BT on my old p233 w/32 mb of RAM, Win 95. never had a single problem. no freezes, no nothing.
if i run BT on my 1 ghz w/512 MB RAM, Win 98SE it locks.

try reading this:
bit torrent faq (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/FAQ.html)
bit torrent yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BitTorrent_help/)
Be sure to mention what operating system you're running, the url of the file you're trying to dowload, what version of BitTorrent you're running, and explain exactly what behavior you're seeing.
haha i just read this: BitTorrent downloaders engage in tit-for-tat with their peers, so leeches have very little success downloading. ... we couldn't use it at ants anyway ... too many leeches :lol

While the client does seem to suck resources, the concept itself is the opposite of sucks. If there were a way to force people to keep windows open or be banned from a tracker until they meet a certain upload requirement, it would have a golden glow. I pulled down an old D+T show in a matter of a couple hours recently. I started a torrent that's completed over 200 times and transferred around 90GB, all in less than a week. Something I could never do on my own. Tonight I'm going to see what besides live music is out there.

i agree. the concept is really good.

i do not agree with forcing people to keep there windows open though. the whole time i am downloading i am also uploading and sometimes i am uploading faster than i am downloading. i have also noticed as my download speeds increase, my upload speeds increase too. yes it would be very nice to keep the window open and allow BT to upload.

Yeah, the concept is great. I haven't really used it for more than concerts, but I know there are movies, tv show episodes, and more on it.

i agree, i mean damn my non-dmb collection has tripled in size, quite frankly i can't afford the CD-R's to back all the stuff up, and now I am finding tons of movies--do you know how much the blank DVD's are costing me. It sure sucks.
:lol ;)

I figured I would ask this question here rather than make a thread. i'm using cable modem... and I was wondering what speeds I should expect with the ants downloader. is there any way I could change the settings to make speeds go faster, or is it just on how many people are using the server at one time?

depends on the server load. the more people on the slower it goes.
not sure if the server is on I2 or not, but if you were on I2 it might go faster.
