they are so few and far between where I am...which really sucks because I'll be messing around with some friends but we never have that underlining sound that is really needed.

I play guitar primarily only because I got bored of playing bass by myself. I can never find anybody to jam with, so I've kinda put it away from the past few months. Although when I was visiting my friend last weekend I took it with and we jammed and I had fun.

Honestly, I'd rather playing guitar and sing, but if the opportunity came up to play bass in a band, I would do it without a second thought.

Unfortunatly, there's a few miles between us.

What kinda music do you play, anyway? Just curious.

bassists' aren't too hard to find, you can even have someone that plays guitart learn to play the bass pretty fast. My question is where the hell are all the drummers in this world? The only drummer I've ever played with is named Yamaha DD-5:(

well I play a lot of dave obviously, um I play some classic rock (zeppelin, eagles, etc.), but when I play with people I just like to jam. I'm not much on soloin, I'm pretty content on rhythm. I just love putting down a rhythm and just listen to other go crazy and being able to feel the energy between all of us. anyways....what about you? what do you play, Pilot?

I play anything that's fun. WWYS and Crush are really fun as for DMB. I love Hotel California. But like I said, I havne't played in awhile, so I don't remember much of what I used to play. When I comes down to it, i'll play anything that sounds like music (no screaming wild shit).

Yes, yes exactly. I hate that punk and heavy metal crap. (no offense to those who are fans, just not my cup of tea)

Talk about frustration. It's wicked hard to find a quality bass player OR drummer. They are all in bands already. I guess it makes sense because unless you are gonna jam with other people, it would get a little boring playing bass or drums alone. Guitar or piano you can enjoy playing solo more.

Something I thought of before but never followed through was, go check out local bands -or even better - crappy local bands.. maybe you can find someone good who wants to jump ship.

I'm thinking of getting a bass, I've been playing an acoustic guitar for about a year, but I know absolutely no theory so I think it might be hard for me create basslines on my own which is what I would really want to do.

I do plan on learning theory, but I am lazy I had my acoustic for almost two years before I finally put the effort into learning

edit: and I also believe that unless your are a good bassist, it's not worth being one cause the bass makes the band

Not true at all. I enjoy playing both alone all the time. And have been offered spots to play with people for both, even though I'm a beginner at bass and not all that impressive on drums. There is a huge lack of talented rhythm players everywhere I've been.

In the short time I've been playing, I've never had more fun with an instrument.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that you could probably be more content with playing guitar or piano, and never find the need to play with other people.

Where as in bass or drums, I don't think that's the case. I'm not saying they're not fun to play, but I can't imagine taking up drums and never wanting to jam with someone else. Where someone playing an acoustic guitar may never need or want to.

what's even harder than finding a bass player/drummer?
finding one who's a chick.

(well, i don't count, i'm a girl and i play drums)

i don't understand why girls want to play music with other girls, but they do. (which is why i usualy don't join all-girl bands)

but yeh, try finding a chick bass player. not too easy.

this might not be your cup of tea, but if you're looking for musicians to play with go to a church with a good band. I started playing at churches and I've played with probably 2 dozen bass players and probably a dozen drummers. For some reason, churches tend to produce some pretty musicians.
