ok you guys have been very helpful in the past so i thought id keep asking you this stuff. i downloaded a long movie in 3 parts of less than 50 minutes each (which i thought could fit on one cd each in svcd or vcd format). i got them in .bin format and they were each around 8MB so that was too big do directly burn to cd. then i converted to mpeg and it got smaller but still over the 7MB limit for cds. i got TMPGEnc which can take any avi and convert it to vcd and also resize it so it fits on one cd. but i cant get either the .bin or mpeg to avi and neither mpeg or .bin will convert straight to vcd. im very confused. www.vcdhelp.com has been helpful but still isnt enough. any help would be appreciated. thanx

Wow, a little confused by your post 8megs will definatly fit onto one CD, not quite sure what your mean by it wont fit onto a VCD. If you mean 800 MB and 700 MB then I might be able to give some advice. TMPGEnc can be set up to create a one disc VCD and www.VCDhelp.com does have a guide that will let you do it Here, One Disc VCD (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/84759.php)
Basically it shows you how to create a template that unlocks the features of TMPGEnc and change the bitrate so that you can fit it on one VCD. My best advice though is to make this into 2 or 3 VCDs because one disc VCDs is very shotty quality wise and you might not be able to see anything anyway.
If this doesn't help maybe someone else can help you or you can clear up your problem a little for me.

If they are in bins then they should be ready to be burned. Get yourself some burning software that will burn the bin files. You might have to create cue files if you didn't download those too.

sorry... i meant 700 and 800MB. i cant burn the .bin directly because its above 700MB. the TMPGEnc would work great but it wont convert from .bin or mpeg which are the two types of files ive managed to get out of it.

TMPGEnc will convert MPEG-2 but as far as I have been able to understand it will not convert MPEG-4 without additional plugins.
However, you should be able to convert from Divx (MPEG-4) to MPEG-2 and then use TMPGEnc to convert to a VCD. I know VCD Help has some articles on this so you can always check there.
The major problem might also be how you saved it out of the .bin file when you extracted it, it might actually be .avi files if it is MPEG-4 but some programs are smart enought to figure that out and will still play it back if it has a .mpg extension or it could be .mpg MPEG-4 files either way you would need to convert to MPEG-2 before you can use TMPGEnc or even create a VCD from it.
In other words I have even confused myself now. Maybe someone else can put it a little clearer than I if you still cannot figure it out, sorry :freak .

How much over?
See the thing is, people make bins for a reason. To be undoing it and trying to run it through video software is just defeating all of it.

the three .bin files are 7.9,8.2, 7.2 MB. so i cant burn it directly to my 700MB cds. whats the point of .bins anyway? i never did understand all this video stuff.
vcdhelp has been very helpful but i still cant get what i want from it.

you're not actually burning the .bin file. you're burning the files IN the .bin file, and the .cue file tells the program how to do that. use a burning program, i use CDRwin, that can burn a bin/cue and try it once. if it says it's too big then it's too big. conversely, you can use vcdgear to convert to mpeg, and if those are still too big to just burn the mpeg (if it's a VCD compliant MPEG)
i'd suggest using a video editing program to split/join the 3 mpegs that are each 800 into 4 mpegs that are each 600. then burn to 4 cds.
you need to be more precise on what you're doing/trying to do, and not use 8.2 to represent 820MB, your posts are a little confusing.
also, if these are official group releases of movies, i guarantee they're made to fit on one cd. the other thing you have to realize is that Video CDs or VCDs aren't based on file size, they're based on video length. a VCD holds 70 mins or so of a file on one 700MB CD.

Exactly what I was getting at. I find it really hard to believe that someone created bins that couldn't be used. But I really have no idea what you're burning but if it's something DMB related it would be done right.
Krugger, by the way, very nice post.

Okay.....I can see where the confusion is coming from.....
You want to know how you can fit a cue/bin thats almost/over 800 megs onto a 700MB disc! I have 2 answers:
1. This has already been mentioned: You're burning what's IN the bin/cue files.....NOT the actual files themselves....BUT, this still leaves movie files that are WELL OVER 700 MB, which leads us to....
2. The actual capacity of a 700MB disc (speaking in terms of VCD or SVCD) is actually about 800 megabytes!!!! WHY??
Well, I could put it into my own words making me sound smarter than I am......OR:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/135642.php
.....give you this link which explains it all PERFECTLY!!!
Don't strip the mpeg's out, Don't split the files, Don't convert the files....do not pass go.....
Do yourself a favor and get NERO or VCDEasy and use the option that allows you to burn the cd image (bin/cue)
GOOD LUCK!!! :)
