so give it a few more days.:)

In my original post I wasn't asking for the show I was just expressing my angst as I saw another show that happened 3 days before (9-11) up on the http download. But, although just two days shy, because of a relatively ancient rule I get the "two week" rule two cents thrown at me.

We're not trading shows burned onto 74 minute discs with 4x burners, b+ped from the taper himself, through the mail anymore.

Times change and so should rules. So that way Mr. Community doesn't have to waste his energy posting "wait two weeks" and thinking hes done something worthwhile.

just because one show is up earlier than two weeks does not mean that every show should or is going to be. it isn't an ancient rule, it is still very much in effect.

Are you kidding me?

I can already download the 9-13-03 show if I wanted to. A show not being available within two weeks is the exception not the norm. As a matter of fact, other than the Montreal and Toronto shows of this year I can't recall two other occurances of a show not coming with a week after the show.

If you're implying I'm a "greedy ass pig" at no point did I ask for the show. Just because I'm not hung up on some ridiculous rule and am surprised that the show hasn't come out yet and decided to comment on it doesn't make me a greedy pig.

NEVER did I say I needed the show either.

bottom line, if you have a problem with waiting two weeks, then GO TAPE YOURSELF.

2 weeks is the community rule, not an ants rule. deal with.

oh yeah, 7.22.03 from this year isn't out yet, and that has been more than two weeks.

Thanks for actually continuing this discussion with relevant replies. But again, I disagree its a community rule. So far from this tour there have only been three recordings that have actually taken two weeks or more to surface. So saying its a community rule, imo, is false. Also I never said I needed the show.. I never even said I wanted the show. I just commented on how I was surprised the show hadn't surfaced yet and the two week rule guy had to rear his ugly head. Thats what bothered me and sent me on my rant.

I've already said that most shows other then the one already mentioned are out before the two weeks. Thats why its killing me. Again, just because you think people should wait two weeks doesn't mean thats the norm.

So yeah. This response hurts my head the most on the thread. Basically all I'm arguing is my opposition to this seemingly sacred, but imo asinine, two week rule and all of a sudden I'm an asshole.

i think the point people are trying to make is that regardless of whether some of the tapers get their tapes out before the two week waiting period ends, some go out of their way to, others just convert it, track it, and spread it when they have time, the general consensus on all boards is to give tapers time. we already appreciate what they do by spending their own time and money to go to a lot of concerts every year, with their own rigs, usually good seats that they end up trading, among many other things to tape a show for us. then they pack it all up and leave, usually after most of us have already started the long journey to our cars.

the two week rule, in my eyes, has been put in place to give them time, so people aren't bugging a day after the show, or two days after the show. it's one thing to say "i'm surprised that this hasn't started making the rounds yet" and "the wait is #$#^ing killing me!".

if the tapers, because they do seem to act as a smaller community within this larger one, wanted to change the two week rule to one week or two days, i think that is up to them. they would start making the posts or notifying webmasters of the change.

i don't think it is too unreasonable to ask for two weeks. same thing happened the last few tours, recordings come out so fast that people EXPECT them to come out within days, if not hours of the shows. ridiculous if you ask me.

does that mean that the two week rule is outdated? not in any sense. i'm sure there are a lot more sources from many shows that just aren't out there yet, because people haven't had the time to convert them, or post them, etc. because they have been busy taping other shows and other bands, or working, or whatever. also, they may feel no point in posting them since some tapers get theirs up the fastest--so why bother working your butt off to get it out within a couple days of the show?

we should give them common courtesy of letting them release their shows when they want to and not pressure them to get it out even faster(less than two weeks). two weeks is a good buffer zone in my eyes, but again, i'm not a taper, so i can't really offer an opinion that is just.

let the people who tape make the decision about "the rule". if they want it changed, they could certainly make that known.

Matt
09-16-2003, 10:46 AM
That's the problem. What I posted wasn't my opinion. It's the fact of the matter. I don't make the rules, I just go along with them, because what the tapers provide us, makes up a lot of the heart of this site. Think about it - without the open taping policy, a lot of what we offer here at the site wouldn't be possible. So I think we at least owe it to the tapers to let them make the call here. And unless there's some massive announcement sourced by the tapers, I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Okay so I'm really suffering from the night before. I think we were at an after club with DJ Tone Depth and Craig and I may have tucked into some charlie before the night ended. It's hard to eat breakfast when all you want to do is sleep for the next 24 hours but I have to get to Toronto and get ready for the next gig. I am still worried about my clutch screwing up again as it is slipping slightly and there are places between Montreal and Toronto on the 401 where my phone does not work. I'm paranoid. These eggs taste weird; gotta get the hell outta Montreal.
I get to Toronto around 5pm at the Devil's Advocate at Bay/Gerrard. Patio; sunny day; got six tix altogether so having drinks with everyone except my bro who will be here around six.
Drinks, drinks, drinks. Ah yes - seem to be getting back into the swing of things here. Head to the Amphitheatre and smoke doobage on the walk. Best place for pre-show drinks at the Amphitheatre is the treehouse. Have a couple beer and look at the sign that says "Dave Mattehws Band - 8:00PM" Holy crap Homestar! i thought the show started at 8:30 and it's 8:05. I am in Sec 103 Row 13 which is great.
I have seen DMB at the Amphitheatre twice and DMB always seem to be really energized to play in North America's 3rd biggest city!!!
Someone taps my shoulder. Hey cool it's the guy and girl that were sitting beside us at the Coldplay concert in Sec 406 Row 2 or something earlier in the year - which was a fantastic show. "Hey dude" I say "wait till you see these guys. It's gonna be awesome" I remembered of course that he hadn't seen DMB yet and was hoping to get tix for this show. Luckily he did.
I have 2 tix in 203 as well that my friends Mike and Natalie are in. Then 1 in 202 (Karl) and 1 in 201 (Kevin)
WTWE - see comments from Montreal.
R&R - kewl.
Ants Marching - hey like the new intro. You're wondering what thery're doing and all of a sudden BOOM!!! It's Ants. Yay!
Crash Into Me - Dave plays the second verse twice. My brother leans over and says to me "didn't he just sing that" - I laugh and look back at him "Dude you must be stoned or something"
Turns out it was both of us - maybe me moreso.
Warehouse - YES!
What You Are - Extra swearing at the end is cool because swearing is fucking really fucking cool. Unless you have to be serious all of a sudden.
Help Myself - Really like the lights. My bro has gone to get more beer. Shit I wanted him to hear this tune properly. He goes for beer at the start of IIHIA and gets back right as WAYG finishes.
"Dude where the hell did you go for beer? Timbuckfuckingtoo"
Poor bastard took a while to find the ATM. I would have given him money if I had known he had no cash.
Thank God he got back when he did though because
Spoon - 10/10 Awesome man. So damn awesome. Really wikkid. I am blown away with the experience of watching DMB play this so close and so nice and loud. Carter the Unstoppable Drum Machine is absolutely fabulous.
Two Step - What! Carter Unstoppable Drum machine back at it again. Love it. Legs are sore from dancing last night in Montreal (or from something else maybe) but I just can't help but dance all the way through Two Step. Damn that Carter! Damn them all to hell.
Grace Is Gone - Aw! They didn't do the hoedown they did the night before. "Where's that damn yardbird Keithro. Go on get! Go on get! Get!! Fix me up some yardbird!!"
Stay - I love hearing Stay any time live. "makes you wanna Stay!" YES!!! I want to Stay. I don't want tonight to be over. Caught a little off guard by Carter singing the I-Three's parts.
Maker - Excellently done. Daniel Lanois is from here - very fitting to hear one of his tunes.
Watchtower - Kevin and Karl are both Jimi fans. I am glad they get to experience DMB playing Watchtower.
The night is over. My bro drops me back at the Devil's. We have a hug and he says "We'll dance again Stevie"
I get teary. Hope to see DMB again soon. Always a very emotional experience.
Central Park is announced soon after and despite having no money I order 2 tix from fan club and donate $25 each for them. Whooo hooo! But that was a much more sober affair. I will not screw around with doobies, etc., when crossing the border to the United States of Southern North America. (see Oct-06-1994 for that Dave reference)

As I suspected, this is the best show of the 13 DMB
shows I've attended. It contains hands down the best
"what you are" rendition as well as contenders for
best performances of the year for several classics.

The intro to What You Are alone is worth the price of
admission. Regardless if you hate that song. Listen
to this version. Then, suck it up. If you still hate
it, you weren't listening. Go back and try again.
Then try virginia july 31 2002's version.

Watchtower, Ants, Warehouse, Two Step and Grace
and most of the rest of the set are immaculate.

Song by Song...

When the World Ends
Dave is obviously delighted "we'll be burning one".
many obliged.

Rhyme and Reason
Tremendously powerful song. well layed down. Timing
is essential in this tune and the timing here is
perfect. Everyone's on board.

Ants Marching
The Crowd sings "people in every direction". Lovely.
Fantastic remarkable performance of this favourite. great
ending.

Crash Into Me
nice tidy tune.

Warehouse
Awesome. Very clean. LeRoi, you are there. Everyone's
there. big time. Le Roi is the king.

What You Are
the best rendition of this song ever. If you can
suggest its better, produce it for inspection.
The opening has incredible swell.
Awesome. Fantastic. It's almost two songs.
Hands Down, the highlight of a fantastic show.

The Stone
This is an exciting song.
"This Big". How to nail an ending.

If I Had It All
It pisses me off when people chatter and fidget
and yell and USE THEIR CELL PHONES and every other rude thing when
this song is being performed. Everybody sit TF down and shut TF up.
Maybe you don't want to hear it, but guaranteed I've travelled at
least 1000 miles to get to whatever seat I'm trying to dance around.
But, I digress, the audience is very well behaved during this great
rendition of a fine tune, So no problems here.

Help Myself
This is a great song. A must for Carter fans. Rapid Fire.

Where Are You Going
Nothing wrong here. Seems a little mixed up, but maybe
not. Nice punch. Maybe this version's faster than usual.
Again, Carter is everywhere all over it.

Spoon
Much better without Alanis Morisette caterwalling behind it.
I've never paid much attention to this song, but I guess that
will likely change. I am not qualified to comment on the nature
of this performance, so you tell me.

Two Step
Carter smokes this. So does everyone else. Keyboards float.
Probably the best two step I've seen. Even over SPAC 2002 and
Montreal with flecktones. You decide, but listen to all three.
(make sure you give SPAC the benefit of the solo nancies that
proceeds it because you need the crowd noise attached to the
end of nancies track to fully appreciate that two step moment...
Savour the near arrival of Everyday as it transmutes into Two Step).
It's sick really. Get a room.

What Would You Say
What is there to say. Nasty catchy tune even now.
Always a treat.

Grace Is Gone
Slyde on in Stephan. Again, the opening is a song in itself.
Without the hoedown excursion offered in Montreal, but a treat
as always. This song works.

Stay
Wonderful. It's as if the lovely ladies were there... you
could almost hear them ;) In Toronto 2001, dave said this was a
song about Canada. Played as the closer, this is the
perfect placement for this song. Lots of voices singing on
this one.

Encore:

The Maker
Daniel Lanois is Canadian. Daniel Lanois is awesome. Why not.
Likely won't top the D&F performance where DL and Emmy Lou Harris
joined Dave to perform it. Can't compare it to Trey and Emmy Lou during her opener to D&F in Oakland 2004
either, but then, you have to compare apples with
apples. This one's Rock Solid.

All Along The Watchtower
Stephan's opening is typicical of this, one of the highlight
performances of all time. Where is all that juice coming from?
Then everybody's solid solid solid. The beauty of this song is
the way that it builds. I particularly love the timing on "outside"
(in the cold distance). Am G and F. You just can't beat it.
Best Band Track Ever contender.

The best DMB show overall I've attended. And better than all the live
released product from the official stores, including red rocks.

you know... you don't need to hit return after every sentence. the box will automatically put you on the next line.

and i still think the 7.3.03 wya intro kicks this ones butt.:)

Can't fix the formatting. only had 5 minutes.
I learned on a manual typewriter. I still
double space after my periods.

Cut and paste, baby.

If you mean

Blue Water Baboon Farm (Tease) ...
Typical Situation ...

Then I don't think I can argue

Think I'll check it out.

no, i mean the intro to WYA. the same thing you were talking about... it sounds like it is a completely different song...

you talked about how it was long and cool at 9.3... well, i think the 7.3 intro to WYA is better because it seems to have more emotion to it.

nice tidy tune.

What you didn't notice that Dave completely missed a verse? Even Dave rolled his eyes.

Yeah, sorry about that. I did notice it, just didn't remember it when doing the review and didn't catch it in time to edit. Also didn't mention the dixie chicken bit.

My tremendous euphoria over that show has waned somewhat, so I might relax some of my claims (especially that the two step is best ever I've heard... Have been relistening to SPAC 2002 and Toronto 2001 which each have their own sparkle... come to think of it, I've never heard a bad two step).

It's still an awesome show.

Yes it was totally awesome. I think Spoon was my favourite of the night.

This years should be equally as brilliant.

After attending 19 shows, this is still the best one. Of all the songs in this concert, there are no performances that I've seen which are clearly better. Le Roi shines very very strong in this concert. Just listen to What Would you Say or Warehouse for examples. Almost every single tune on the setlist is the best of it's breed.

In spite of the fact this concert contains so many highlights, and regardless of the fact that it includes Spoon, What You Are is the absolute highlight of this show.

Listen to this Two Step if you don't like Butch. You have got to tip your hat to the man after this performance.

This show has just recently resurfaced on the DreamingTree bit torrent for those who are still looking for it.
That was me. :)
The reason why I love this Two Step so much is because of the first couple of minutes of Butch's solo before he changes from electric piano to acoustic piano. I wish he would do that more often.
My favourite Two Step right now is from 06.05.05 - download it from dreamingtree and see what you think. Dave's extra guitar riff and lyrics at the end are just mind-blowingly brilliant.
PS if you put the symbols {code} and {/code} replacing the "{" with a "[" of course in front of and behind your original post you'll find it's a lot easier to manage than quoting that huge entire review - or even post a link to your post. Then you would have got this.

newsflash:
intro to what-you-are is almost a variation of Mother Father

This "mother father" familiarity is shared with the "what you are" start of 6.16.10 found on the 2nd bonus CD platter that came in 2006 with "greatest hits" (that CD also has ottawa #41 with flecktones).
