i personally enjoy 2 guitars jamming because you could theoretically have the 2nd guitar play some bass stuff if you wanted but the bass could never play as a 2nd guitar. if you watch D+T do crush this year, timmy did some bass work on his acoustic during the jam at the end. but if fonz was up there, he couldnt do timmys solos

i think the 2 guitars jamming sounds better if u have them both playin the same thing but if they arent in synch with eachother it will sound terrible

well obviously, but they dont need to play the same thing. you could play variations on chords or inversions. also one solos and the other doesnt. as long as they are both playing in the right key it sounds good. the only problem ive seen was at school during an open mic, some kid a in a coyboy hat thinks hes timmy so he was doing crazy solos but all in the wrong key so it sounded horrible

or you could do like howie day: get some delay and an octave shifter, then play bass and guitar parts and still sound like a badass motherfucker

for an example as to how the acoustic guitar, bass duo CAN work, i refer you to Mike Gordon and Leo Kottke. kinda weird sometimes, but some of the stuff of their cd is REALLY cool.

Sonically the bass + guitar work better, musically, I think you can do more with two guitars
