I'm intrigued by it...it is the kind of music that can be jammed the fuck out...i was just wondering what types of chord formations and scales were used for it...

If you go to www.alltabs.com I think you can sort by type and they have celtic stuff. Take a look at a few tabs, it might give you some ideas.

Predominantly traditional celtic music (reels, etc) are either in Dmaj or in Amaj. Bagpipes are made with a drone pipe that will usually be fixed to D but sometimes can be changed to G or A, and chanters are made to play in Dmaj diatonic scales (kind of like a harmonica is diatonic in one key).

I like to jam celtic style sometimes, so I put my guitar in open D tuning (DADADD low to high) and it takes on a dulcimer-type sound. Improv from there. Lot of fun.
