I have trouble using the winamp plugins to listen to shn's, so i wrote something that should allow them to be played in windows media player.
You need DirectX 9 or higher (you can get it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A19BED22-0B25-4E5D-A584-6389D8A3DAD0&displaylang=en)
If anyone gets a chance to try it out, if you could post if it works for you that would be great.

Thanks,
Chris
P.S. Seeking doesn't work quite yet.

Hey,
Nice to hear from another person from rochester.
You can grab the source here, http://www.rit.edu/~cxp6014/SHNPlugin-src.zip
It's written in C++, and you will need the DirectX SDK to compile it.
If there's any interest i will try to put up a page this week sometime to have the latest version of the plugin and source.

wow. did you write that all yourself?
damn ... i wish i knew C++ better ... i haven't used it since college and we never wrote anything like that. actually we never used MS C++, we always used borland to compile, etc.
if you want any shows just let me know, my list is in my sig

Hey,
Yeah, it was all written by me, with the exception of a couple of conversion functions. Thanks for the replies everybody. I will try to get a page up by Wednesday with some more information about it.

That's pretty cool.
Since it is a directshow filter is should allow shn playback in a lot of applications.

I've just thrown together a quick site for the plugin at http://www.rit.edu/~cxp6014/index.html
I've also uploaded a newer version of the plugin which fixes the visualization problems a few people have mentioned.
