when did the chet exit

The Chet is a very cool guitar, however, I dont think it provides the warmth like the taylor does. I would like to see him pull it out again, maybe for watchtower, or halloween.

I agree Crashing the quarter is my favorite. Dave tears it up so good that concert. I wish I was at that one but I was still in high school then. I have it on tape but just the tv version, hope to find it on dvd sometime.

I have a chet (black) just like daves and I love it, but yeah the sound is not the best, but it looks so cool, like a sports car.

Your Chet isn't just like Dave's... Dave had his heavily modified, including shaving of the neck and totally new electronics.

no one has ever confirmed this shaved kneck crap. I have the email of the guitar tech at fishman who installed the electronics in Dave's chets, and he says that was the only modification. who do you believe, Fishman Technician or or ignorant Chet haters?

By the way, the neck shape really won't make a difference on that guitar anyway, just comfort.

no mine is not just like daves, it looks like it but you are right the neck is not shaved and does not have the fishman pickup. And i got a good deal one it i paid $900.

Does anyone know where you can get the neck shaved and how much it costs? Because it is a little harder to play dave style than my takaminie.

You'll notice on Dave's signature Martin the neck has a unique shape- his Chets were the "prototype" to that. The shape's design had something to do with his CTS.

And FYI- I don't hate the Chet. I happened to enjoy it alot while Dave was still using it. I don't think it's a good idea to go out and buy a Chet because Dave played one, as so many people have.

I made the unfortunate mistake of doing just what Rob said, which was buying a Chet Atkins back in 1996 because Dave had one, and after about a year with it, I realized my mistake. Only in the last year or so did I start using it again, and I absolutely love it for what I use it for. Open C tuning with heavy distortion, and man its great for that, but I learned long ago, that if you want an acoustic, buy a real acoustic.
