i don't think there will be electronics on it but its a step up from the 110...solid back and sides, a couple hundred dollars more than the 110...check out the article for specifics...

Eh... A great step-up from the Big Baby, but it has a laminated maple back. I wouldn't buy a guitar, Taylor or otherwise, with a laminated surface. They just don't last.

Just my $.02

can you expand on that laminated top not lasting thing? laminated means that it''s shiny right? or?

laminated means simply that they take plywood of some sort and cover, or laminate it, with a thin layer of tonewood (rosewood, mahogany, etc..). laminate guitars usually don't sound as full bodied since the back and sides are largely not tonewoods and don't vibrate very well.

Wes, laminate has nothing to do w/the finish. The "shiny" is if it's gloss or not.

Ever look at a skateboard from the side? All the layers of wood? That's a laminate.

Also, in Taylor nominclature, models ending in 10 (110, 310, 410, etc) are dreadnoughts. Models ending in 14 (314, 714, 914, etc) are grand auditorium style. Just FYI for you all.

thanks for the info guys. I guess the non-mal ones are much more expensive eh?

I own a Ibanez AW100-CENT which is a really nice one, but my fave is the Taylor 614 ce I play at the store. :p

I always play this taylor 714ce limited...it kicks ass and i'll never be able to afford it in my life...overall though i like the dreadnoughts better than the grand auditorium...i'm hoping taylor does an a 210 or maybe even a 210ce...

Not sure if you're talking about the 110 or the 214.

The 110 has laminate back and sides while the 214 is all solid sapele.

The prices on the site are usually much higher than what you can find in the stores. Can't wait to see one.

I was talking bout the 214...i'm surprised taylor went straight to the 214 and didnt elaborate on the 110(add electronics or an auditorium model).

A laminated surface usually has the "ply" look on the side, as well as a very unclean or "cloudy" look, or a blackened almost burned look to it sometimes.

Laminated surfaces are built to be more resilient and less as a tonewood, as Zaq mentioned. However, they are the most succeptable to environment changes and will warp/separate/crack especially in a delicate situation like a stringed instrument. I've seen a cello with a laminate top that split right down the middle after a two-hour ride in a semi-hot car. Not pretty.

Now that I look at it a little harder, I see that.... My bad.

Right. Go to the taylor site and compare the 410 and 414, for instance. You'll see the body shape difference.

The dreads have a fuller sound and are louder. They're good for hard strumming and rhythm type of playing.

The auds are better for finger picking and medium strumming. You tend to get a little brighter sound out of em.
