what's the deal with the strumming on the song...i can pretty much play the whole thing but i can't get the strumming in the intro/verse to sound right to save my life...i've been trying to playing along with the inside wants out acoustc version but i can't get the muting...any tips so can get this song right...thanks alot...

When you are holding that first D chord, focus on trying to pluck the 3rd string(G), then the 2nd string(B), and then back to the 3rd string. Do this in an up - down - up strum

up(3) - down(2) - up(3)

This takes some time to get down, not much though...It will become easy

it's actually very easy, but sort of hard to explain without physically showing you. but focus on the [ok horrible attempt to make this a written version of the sound in my head] doob-di-doob-diiiiii [so 2nd dii is longer than first] doob-di-doob-diiii etc.
Once you can distinguish this sound associate it with up and downstrokes and you''ve got it.,
