View Full Version : In The Spotlight
We've added in the lastest "in the spotlight" show, 2.17.93.
We're going to try and add in a show to that a week (or so), focusing mainly on older shows that some new fans might not have heard.
If you have any suggestions, post em here!

3-16-93 Jake. Probably my favorite pre-95 show to listen to. The Ants is a damn solid version with a kick ass 2001 intro. The Batman twist to recently is unexpected and I can't think of Warehouse or Two Step being played solo too many times. Not to mention I love the sound Doug brings.
So yeah, there's my suggestion:)
8.25.95 is the latest 'in the spotlight' show.
Jamie's suggestion of 3.16.93 is a great one, and will soon be a select show. I highly recommend that one too!

w00t, glad to see another suggestion. There's so many to choose from, it's hard to find a place to start. At work I can violate the 1991-2002 server for all it's worth. :D
There'll soon be a little revision to the spotlight update page - i think its getting messy.
Finally.... another 'in the spotlight' show added in.
again, I'm going to -try- to put a new one in more often.
key word, try.

I'm giving 2/17/93 a listen, and the Seek Up in it is really good, different lyrics, and Carter's cymbal work is amazing.
I love this Spotlight section. :)

The spotlight show called Big League Chew, I have 2 questions, hopefully someone can help me out, and I hope this post isn't in the wrong area or something. Why is it called Big League Chew, were they a sponsor? Why is it "infamous"?

yep, big league chew is the sponsor. it's infamous for being peter greiser's last show with the band as well as a great set, with many great versions of songs.

it's also infamous b/c, according to legend, Jeff Bagby was drunk as, well, a drunk, and made up some goofy names of the songs when he wrote out the setlist for the show.

Thanks guys.

11.3.92
http://www.antsmarching.org/tour/ViewShow.php?ShowID=2873
Granted there have been 2 other Novamr 1992 shows "In The Spotlight", this show really is another strong one for the band. It was the night of the Presidential Election and for some reason the boys were just on. Opening up the set with a short but sweet Halloweebn followed by a nice PFWYG would be considered unheard of by todays standards for the band. Later in the set we see Ants Marching segueing into Dancing Nancies, and just before the end of the first set, Peter does a nice jam leading the boys into a quick version of Exodus. The fun continues with probably the best version of Warehouse ever done by the band. You need to hear it before you go claiming any other version is better than this. The boys must have felt very strong that night, ending the set with Satellite.
I was waiting for a few of the sarah b and T Reimensnyder shows to get moved over... I'll have to check and see if they made it into the public side (we have to double check em 1st).
I thought I already did 11.3.92? it's only like my 3rd fav show..... best Warehouse ever.

10-16-96.
http://www.antsmarching.org/tour/ViewShow.php?ShowID=2369
Very solid show. This was about a week or two after the ASTB jams began and the one here is toned down to a shorter one than we know today. Even with that, the whole show features a lot of dave scatting. Look at the opening of Seek Up, LIOG, #41, and then Billies. It just screams amazing. A nice Recently towards the end of the set with the Norweigan Wood verses done during the intro to the song, makes this a particularly interesting set. A great old school #36 going into Ants to close the set.:)

how's the quality on that one?
about that 11.3.92 show that Jason mentioned above, 1. d/l it, b/c it's great, and 2. understand that Disc 1 has 'filler' on it. it's what they used to call 'side A' filler, meaning that the analog tape had some extra time on - wait for it- side A and they threw some extra stuff on it.
the jam and Exodus are from 6.27.92. I put a note on the txt file now.
if you've already d/led it, you can add this to the bottom. put the + by the jam and exodus.

I don't know if anyone knows/cares, but usually when I do a spotlight show, I do a 'did you know' as well. there's something like 18 or 19 now. if you keep hitting 'refresh' on the main tour central page, you can cycle thru em.

People should check out 6-16-97, I know Jake has heard it! Rarely mentioned show that is just killer. Arguably the best Typical Situation ever with Bela just tearing it up for over 15 minutes, Minarets w/ Bela, #41 w/ Bela and Coffin, and Ants with Bela. Add in a ten minute Nancies opener, a SMTS > ASTB > TM closer, and a LMP + DIDO encore and you have one fantastic set with some great energy. One of my own favorites. Disc two of the schoeps tape is probably one of the best single discs I own. Check it out if you haven't heard it!
