I didn't know people still got jaundice...
Thanks for the little FYI there.
RuggerSelkie
09-30-2003, 08:23 PM
It occurs in 25-50% of full term babies and 80% of premature.
"Jaundice occurs when there is a build up of bilirubin in the body. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment created by the breakdown of red blood cells. Newborns have a much greater prevalence of jaundice because the liver enzyme that breaks down bilirubin is underdeveloped. Additionally, newborns have more red blood cells than adults."

Whew as in I'm tired. Blake is a little angel. Obviously she just cries, eats, and sleeps, but I just like looking at her. She's so pretty. Alas, I was playing with her, she pooped, I change diaper, she cries, mama holds her, she quiets up. S'all good. I'm slowly writing a paper anyway.

No, but come to think of it, she poops on me more than her or my mom. That's mostly cuz she was bed ridden in the hospital for three days though.
She's trying to nurse. It's coming along slowly. But I hear that's just another drawback with a cesarean.

Has oreo been spayed yet, or do you have any experience with it???
Number27
10-01-2003, 11:11 AM
She has been spayed. When we got her, she was just a kitten and it was a requirement for her to be spayed and get a microchip before they could release her to us. After her spaying, she got a small hernia that went away after two weeks.
recentlytrippin
10-01-2003, 11:17 AM
Was she sick at all afterwards?
Number27
10-01-2003, 11:22 AM
She had a cold, and wasn't her self. I think her being spayed added on to it at all. Did the vet say there were going to be any sideeffects after the operation?
recentlytrippin
10-01-2003, 11:27 AM
Not really, although I was not there when she was picked up, Alison got her.
They wouldn't give here the satellite collar to prevent licking stitches though, they said it was too stressful on the kitty.
I found that interesting.
Number27
10-01-2003, 11:30 AM
Wait a day or two, inspect the area make sure there are no bumps. If there is, take her to the vet and have her checked out.

New born poop hasn't been that bad. Actually, once she started eating and cleared out her intestinal system it hasn't been that bad. It was like tar for a while. Nothing to smelly and nothing too big. I know this will change.
