I'm sure other have this guitar. What would be the best strings to use on this? or what did Dave use when he played it?

Also, I am doing some recording and want to change the pickup to sound better but not what to use. Any suggestions?

One more Question, is there anything else I could do to it to make it better?

Any suggestions on anything and prices would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Jimmy

ive got one.

i love elixer strings. i havent really experimentted with others on it, but they are really nice.
i reccomend acoustic strings on it as well. guitar center had electric strings on theirs and it was pretty horrible.

i play mine direct through a PA system, but I'd really like to get an acoustic amp for it because those sound fantastic.

its a tricky guitar and it not hard for it to sound like shit sometimes, but once you learn what kind of sound it makes, its a lot easier to become consistant with it.

maybe d'addario, but certainly jazz mediums
you should certainly get an acoustic amp

I use D'addario exp's on my chet. I also replaced the pickup with a Fishman Matrix Natural I. I liked the way the chet sounded before this upgrade but I really like how it sounds now. It has better bass response and the overall sound is much brighter. Well worth it!

How much did it run to do that to your chet?

Dave used to play far down and away from the soundhole when he used the Chet. That's only good if you need to cut through a band's overall sound though. I think when I played a Chet, just to try it out it had D'Addarios on and it sounded great.

The chet doesn't have a soundhole, how does he play far down and away from it if it doesn't exist?

I have heard before, and I don't own one so this is not fact coming from me, that acoustic strings on the SST are supposed to sound better.

But, like I said...I don't own one so no way to verify that.

Your right, the SST doesn't have a soundhole, but that's what dave used. So dave's didn't have a soundhole.

You're also right about acoustic strings, but it is technically an acoustic guitar.

solid body acoustic is the most widely accepted term
people should steer away from giving advice about things they haven't a fucking clue about.
not you pilot

Just kidding, what do you think?

about the chet? I think its a quality axe that is at its best when strapped with jazz mediums, just like dave's. A marshall acoustic amp would really compliment it well. and i am really against the changin of the pick-up. i'm sure it will bring you infinite joy.

hell yeah. its got a great original sound as is. i wouldn't think of changing the make-up of a classic piece like the chet. but the jazz mediums sound so sweat it almost make me cry.

I heard if youre putting acoustic strings on it, you shouldnt put anything heavier than light because ther guitar wasnt made to withstand the preassure of the mediums.

i think they might actually be light-mediums, my bad. I think they are like .12, the mediums are .13, its not that big of a change. As for not going over a .10, that's just what's recommended, but its not set it stone. It won't cause any damage. I mean maybe the neck might be a little different after 5+ years, but I think the sound is worth it.

I decided not to change it. What brand strings make you want to cry? Jazz mediums is that the whole name?
